I am about to ID as a man

In 1.5 hours, I will be identifying as a gay man who does not conform with male gender stereotypes. I expect my local leisure facility to comply with the Swim England guidelines and agree that I am entitled to access the men-only swimming sessions, the male showers and toilets and to wear swimming trunks. I also expect them to re-educate any other man who objects to any of the above.

In other words, I have a meeting with the local swimming pool at 10 to see whether or not I’ll be resorting to topless swimming and public nudity tonight in an effort to prove my point that the Swim England guidelines are ridiculous Blush

Wish me luck!

Will you start a new thread once the petition is live?
I’ll get round to joining the fb group this weekend Blush

MrsFogi · 02/03/2018 17:04

The petition is a wonderful idea YesItsADebate - thank you! I will be signing it in my own name and believe this will be a "I am Spartacus" moment for all on mn who have been on the numerous threads about this issue.

FlexTimeCheekyFucker · 02/03/2018 17:11

What is the facebook group Mama?

Wondermoomin · 02/03/2018 17:15

Checking in to say well done, and I too will sign that petition when it's live, so if anyone finds that it is then please update here. Thanks

mamaryllis · 02/03/2018 17:16

There is a #manfriday group - linked about a week or so ago when the intention to make these steps a movement came about. I assume it is still running. Pm Yes (op) with your fb profile link - I think she has to add you as a friend in order to add you to the group. After verification etc.

InHibernationTilISummer · 04/03/2018 20:39

Bookmarking so I know when the petition goes live.

rednsparkley · 04/03/2018 23:11

Also bookmarking for the petition

CabinFeverShorts · 05/03/2018 09:24

Waiting for the petition....

Anyone in Birmingham fancy doing something similar?

Bofster37 · 05/03/2018 16:00

Have the swimming pool got back to you yet @YesItsADebate?

terfing · 05/03/2018 19:13

Where is the petition? Smile

YesItsADebate · 05/03/2018 21:17

No response yet but that’s ok. I wasn’t expecting one until the end of this week.

terfing it’s being checked by the petitions office before it’s posted. They said it could take up to a week.

Only just found this thread!

Jamboree05 · 06/03/2018 13:55

OP, you are my hero.

Now, more than ever, is this needed, especially based on this article in the huff yesterday...

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 06/03/2018 15:03

From the huffpost article:

As well as being fully guaranteed the right to take part in women-only shortlists for Westminster, the party’s formal decision will confirm that [gender identifying] trans women can take part in the Jo Cox Women In Leadership programme.

Equalities Committee chair Keith Birch completed the consultation last month and the party is now confident its policy represents the vast majority of the views of its “key stakeholders”.

The party will also commit to reforming the Equality Act 2010 to ensure it “protects trans people by changing the protected characteristic of ‘gender assignment’ to ‘gender identity’.”

harpyone · 06/03/2018 15:19

‘Key stakeholders’,so not the membership then?

YesItsADebate · 07/03/2018 15:49

Minor update: the general manager sent me an email today to say that ‘we are seeking further clarifications and further advice to ensure we can come back to you in the shortest possible time’. I’ve asked for a timeframe for a full response.

That's good - it sounds like they have realised the complexities and difficulties in applying those guidelines in reality.

hipsterfun · 07/03/2018 16:22

Thanks for the update, Yes Smile

Is it really. I think I'd like some more details about this "consultation".

LizzieSiddal · 07/03/2018 23:54

Why is the chair of Labours’ Equality commission a middle aged, white man?! Angry

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/03/2018 13:16

Ah just looked this thread up thinking today’s the day. Most disappointed to see they’ve asked for an extension. 😬

An opportunity for women to raise their voices*

No thanks. Any organisation/group that doesn’t recognise sex and calls women ‘cis’ can get stuffed.

I’m just going to copy this from the other threads you’ve posted on.
