I am about to ID as a man

YesItsADebate · 23/02/2018 08:27

In 1.5 hours, I will be identifying as a gay man who does not conform with male gender stereotypes. I expect my local leisure facility to comply with the Swim England guidelines and agree that I am entitled to access the men-only swimming sessions, the male showers and toilets and to wear swimming trunks. I also expect them to re-educate any other man who objects to any of the above.

In other words, I have a meeting with the local swimming pool at 10 to see whether or not I’ll be resorting to topless swimming and public nudity tonight in an effort to prove my point that the Swim England guidelines are ridiculous Blush

Wish me luck!

Man Friday.

MunchausensLovelyHorse OMG that is brilliant Grin

notangelinajolie · 23/02/2018 15:25

And bravo to your dignity and manner in the way you are doing this.

YesItsADebate · 23/02/2018 15:26

I can’t find the post where someone asked about my MP. I met with him to ask about his position on self-ID and make my opposition clear and brought up this plan then. He’s supportive of my plan to highlight the practical implications of self-ID.

'Man Friday' sounds like the premise for a campaign...

hearthwitch · 23/02/2018 15:26

OP You rock

crunchymint · 23/02/2018 15:28

I wonder if Object would promote Man Friday as a campaign? I will suggest it to them.

WildWindsBlowing · 23/02/2018 15:30

Brave.
Take care.

Cheekyandfreaky · 23/02/2018 15:30

qumquat · 23/02/2018 15:32

You're an absolute s/hero OP. I'd be up for some topless swimming if required. (Despite the fact my boobs reach into the next postcode and I wear a bra 24/7 as it's too uncomfortable to go without).

ImNotWhoYouThinkIAmOhNo · 23/02/2018 15:33

Best. Thread. Ever.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 23/02/2018 15:34

And men get listened to

As does money. If self-id can be shown to have a significantly detrimental impact on businesses (which it will) that could hold back legislation too.

BitOutOfPractice · 23/02/2018 15:34

It's FRiday now, just sayin'

I may spend this evening sitting on the sofa in just my pants scratching my balls and watching football (yet I know that's a gender sterotype and I don't care!)

ladyballs · 23/02/2018 15:34

Bravo OP.

Tanith · 23/02/2018 15:36

"This just gave me a flashback rage to when my ex told me that he didn't like looking after our then-small DS as it was "boring". OF COURSE IT'S FUCKING BORING. IT'S EYEWATERINGLY, SOUL-CRUSHINGLY BORING."

Oh no it's not, if you do it properly! Smile But then, I'm probably biased, given my job.

When DH used to take DS to toddler groups, in the years before Mens groups were set up, he felt very excluded. So I did feel that a men's group was a good thing.
Personally, my problem is that there isn't the funding available for all the groups. I think we'll only break down social barriers when targeted groups don't feel singled out and patronised, and the others don't feel resentful.

Tanith · 23/02/2018 15:39

However, I'm derailing Op's thread Blush

worita · 23/02/2018 15:42

You are an absolute hero Thanks

SnowontheCordyline · 23/02/2018 15:42

I know that's a gender sterotype and I don't care

That's the point though, isn't it? TRAs are presenting as "stereotype women" and are open about it.

I've lost count of the number of Twitter comments I've seen from TRAs that basically say "I'm a better woman than you are" Hmm

Wonderful.

I'll gladly join an en masse swim.

OP, you are a true inspiration.
