Here's my post replying to Moth
Thats an interesting article moth. Best not on the board or MRAs would be all over it!
I was wondering today, hopefully, if the news about darts getting rid of the girls means the overton window is shifting and maybe p0rn will become less acceptable?
If not all this hooha about F1 girls and the presidents club is just tinkering on the edges.

Can anyone enlighten as to the relationship between the We Need To Talk group and WPUK? Is there some kind of back story as to why they are both holding similar events but don’t seem to reference each other (that I have noticed at least, perhaps my Twitter bubble is hiding things)

Ereshkigal · 05/02/2018 08:55

As far as I know there is no relationship. We need to talk is organised by Venice Allan who was one of the organisers of the event in London which involved the meeting at Speakers Corner after it was forced out of its original venue. A Woman's Place was set up quite soon after that with the aim of educating people about rights to female spaces and getting the issues talked about. It makes sense to host these talks, but a Woman's Place does more than that, they are launching a website soon, it's more of a targeted campaign.

WiggyPig · 05/02/2018 09:26

What are the chances of the Women's March apologising for championing serial sex pest Dier's right to harass Rose McGowan, now that the various screenshots of Dier's social media accounts have come to light....?

Ereshkigal · 05/02/2018 09:40

Slim to none I'd say.

Ereshkigal · 05/02/2018 09:40

Given that they've already platformed a self confessed rapist.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 05/02/2018 09:52

About time they renamed the Women's March 'the March for People with an Interest in Sexual Assault for All the Wrong Reasons' or similar

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/02/2018 10:50

The trans thread where the mansplaining friend of the weepy TIM is back on AIBU.

HelenDenver · 05/02/2018 13:42

But said friend has disappeared from the thread forever. Hmm.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/02/2018 13:46

Funny that. I thought the thread was on AIBU not FWR originally... but I'm probably imagining that.

HelenDenver · 06/02/2018 13:48

Bumping

HairyBallTheorem · 06/02/2018 18:33

Apart from anything else, the mansplainy friend of Dorothy Tim gets nul points from me for really rubbish trolling. Like anyone like the friend described would really be a regular on MN. Nope, not buying that for an instant.

On another note, I have had to back away slowly from another thread. I don't know about you but when someone feels it necessary to preface their remarks with "I'm not a consipiracy theorist but..." then proceeds to throw in references to everyone except the Illuminati, I always find the phrase "Methinks they doth protest too much" echoing in my head.

QuentinSummers · 06/02/2018 21:33

Today I amused myself filling in an LGBT questionnaire at work. They asked for gender with a free text box. I wrote "no gender". What pile are you putting that in, eh?

I made a thread in site stuff

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/3161557-Deletion-of-threads-about-rape

I feel like some one has found a good way to stop women talking about rape. So depressing

I weighed in as well. It was an educational thread.

rowdywoman1 · 07/02/2018 09:31

Quentin
There has to be a distinction between us commenting on rape and commenting on a live court case. There is a young woman at the centre of this case and while there were lots of fab posts on that thread, there were some that were commenting on the live case. Defendants will look for any reason to cry foul - it's why the responsible online press don't allow btl comments until a court case ends.
Surely our right to comment should not trump her right to have the case heard without defendants using online comments to claim 'the jury were influenced' as a 'get out' clause.
I think MNHQ were right .

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 07/02/2018 10:10

That's a really important point rowdywoman

But it's utterly disgraceful that a thread looking at things from a woman's perspective should be perceived as potentially compromising a trial while mainstream media headlines insinuating the complainant is a total slapper who went out with the intention of being raped should be all fine and dandy and not compromising at all. Fuck it makes me angry.
