Here's my post replying to Moth
Thats an interesting article moth. Best not on the board or MRAs would be all over it!
I was wondering today, hopefully, if the news about darts getting rid of the girls means the overton window is shifting and maybe p0rn will become less acceptable?
If not all this hooha about F1 girls and the presidents club is just tinkering on the edges.

Gin mamaryllis

And solidarity. It's weird and it's boggling and it's definitely not just sour grapes on your part.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/02/2018 00:42

Has anyone else received any rather odd PMs over the women's march and Rose threads?

UpstartCrow · 04/02/2018 00:45

No... (trying not to be intrigued)

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 04/02/2018 00:46

No, but do tell yet

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/02/2018 00:48

It was nothing major - but it did surprise me a little

Oooooo. PM them back and find out if they will explain what a woman is.

Cwenthryth · 04/02/2018 08:14

Fell asleep wine in hand binge-watching Victoria - I know it’s hopelessly inaccurate in historical terms, but fun. And I enjoyed this exchange between the queen and the duke of wellington, perfectly describing privelige:
“I was not aware that you were fighting a war, Ma'am.”
“Because you are not a young woman, Duke, and no-one, I suspect, tells you what to do.
But I have to prove my worth every single day.”

Thanks for the Amy Newton recommendation - not heard her before but she’s blowing the cobwebs away quite nicely this morning!

I go back and forth on how I’m feeling about Jennifer James, she’s making some very important waves but seems so unshakably convinced that Corbyn will see sense. However good tweet from her this morning

Especially this bit:
^1. The gender-conforming hierarchy is the one which discriminates against trans ppl.

  1. The sex hierarchy is the one which discriminates against women.
Lesbians, trans men.. and rad fems to some extent.. are doubly oppressed: situated in the bottom tier of both hierarchies.^

It seems to make so much sense, when you accurately separate gender and sex.

Cwenthryth · 04/02/2018 08:17

YetAnotherSpartacus I don’t get it - are they saying they were being transphobic (and therefore offensive?).

I didn’t realise people really engaged in PMs on here.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/02/2018 09:31

I can't be arsed PMing them back. They are a regular poster and sometimes plopper. I filed them under insignificant and will block them.

In short, I made a comment that could have been interpreted as a dig at the OPs grammar, but was actually a sarcastic comment about the trans-centric organisers of the women's march. I apologies and said I hoped I had not offended anybody and that PM popped into my box.

It's no big deal, I was just a bit surprised that's all...

Yes ... although I think there's an important distinction to be drawn between oppression and discrimination. Gnc people are discriminated against, women are oppressed (i.e., exploited as a resource)

Cwenthryth · 04/02/2018 11:02

Excellent point, Tallulah.

Discrimination seems straightforward to identify, challenge and legislate against. Oppression - is much more structural, and ‘unseen’?

TransPortFormerlyCherie · 04/02/2018 13:30

Hope its ok to pop in and shre something I heard... not sure if it means anything.
Ended up listening to a drunken mansplainy lecture yesterday. Just disengaged and extracted myself as no energy to waste. But... amongst the slating of feminism and other equality movements there was a mention of "trans age", "going too far", and "all those PIE memes going around". (PIE = paedophile info exchange.)

I think that the trans age thing is already gaining ground, and I suspect it will be this that peak-transes the majority of the public.

Unfortuantely feminists, lefties, and LGB people will be blamed...

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 04/02/2018 13:42

Yes I'd agree with this: overcoming oppression is a bigger deal because it involves completely overturning power relations and rebalancing resources between classes.

Ereshkigal · 04/02/2018 19:47

Yup the dudebros on Twitter are utterly infuriating and so fucking sanctimonious, it could feel like being lectured by 100 different versions of Owen Jones .....shudders.....

I can tell you that's an extremely accurate description Grin

terryleather · 04/02/2018 19:55

Eresh GrinGrinGrin
Anyone who is able to keep going and argue on Twitter has my total admiration. I know it's important to do it for the lurkers but it's grim.

Every so often I will have a look but I always end up down a rabbit hole and always end up with the radge.

Who was it said that the definition of stupidity was doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different outcome....?

athingthateveryoneneeds · 04/02/2018 20:59

What is going in tonight around here? There are some very angry GC posters but missed the why.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 04/02/2018 21:11

It's been building up for a while athing

Now in the last few days we have this business with Labour, women's aid proposing to employ TIMs, relentless propaganda churned out by the bbc, the women's march stuff, the treatment of Rose McGowan, various examples of assaults on women and girls being treated as less important than male people's right to shout women down. It's starting to feel relentless and frightening.

Melamin · 04/02/2018 21:13

It was one of those 'why is it so transphobic here' threads from a dude whose lady friend with a penis had been crying all day about it. She was also more beautiful than feminist women. Or something. Got deleted in the end.

Reading this, I am now discovering there is a difference between 'discriminate against' and 'oppression'. Thankyou Smile

QuentinSummers · 04/02/2018 22:19

Seen this?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/02/2018 22:44

I'm so annoyed that so many trans threads are deleted from the main board. I'm not sure about that one, it was too goady to be true, but the board just has this sanitised air about it, like they want it to be kept clean and naice. But it removes some evidence of debate and in some way contributes to the 'its an overreaction' response to the trans issue and women's space.
