Why do men hate women?

A small question for a Thursday afternoon...

Where does it stem from? If we lived in a more equal society would fewer men hate women? Is it seeing women being treated as lesser that gives other men the signal that it's okay to do the same or is it always there? Is it just inevitable as we are weaker and give birth etc?

I haven't read much about this - I know the Greer quote about women not knowing how much men hate us and I see it being mentioned but that's it.

Just to be clear, what I'm about to type applies to men as the male half of our species, not the specific men you know and love.

I think men hate women for the same reason that any oppressor hates their victim - they have to dehumanise them to prevent cognitive dissonance kicking in.

For men to psychologically justify controlling women, they have to see them as lesser, and be disgusted by / hate them at some level.

The reason men want to control women is that it gives them an advantage - having women do the boring grunt work of life is obviously massively beneficial to them, and they have the physical advantage to enforce that system.

To the pp asking why men would want to do any of this, when they need women to reproduce - Selfish Gene theory answers this. All our genes want to do is reproduce. As long as that is happening, the behaviours of the organism containing the genes do not need to behave logically or fairly.

All rather simplistic, but I do believe this is the root of the issue.

RealityHasALiberalBias I think there's a lot of truth in what you say

I have observed that same phenomena of men viewing women as objects to the point I think they have a defective part of their brain -autism-like - for want of a better term.

Plus some men don't feel - whether conditioned out of them or what - that's a huge part pf the issue - they are self centred and despite what they say, don't respond with appropriate levels of empathy and / or conscience to what's happening to women - analogous to the white slave owners in Southern USA towards the blacks - it seems to be part of the honour culture of men. Blocked pathways to success just adds more potency to the base mixture
