Men who parade how "feminist" they are but who can fuck right off...

...as they don't actually want to listen to women who disagree with them in any way.

I am not including common-or-garden arseholes here, as the list would be a billion posts long and the internet would explode. I am talking about the kind of man who writes a long, handwringing article in the Guardian about how we should all listen to feminists more, but then deletes most of the comments from actual feminists that are posted on it.

The two currently at the top of my very long List are:
Ally Fogg
Owen Jones

Nominations, please.

(Psst! pand0ra! Are you in the right thread?)

"Scandinavia has everything feminists wanted ..." No they don't. Apart from the fact all Scandinavian countries are not the same, none of them have equality for women. But Sweden and Norway have made more in roads in certain areas than the UK, for example.

pand0raslunchb0x · 12/03/2015 12:43

Haha whoops sorry Annie, cut n paste fail.

I stand by my views though, this thread seems a good a thread as any to air them :)

PuffinsAreFictitious · 12/03/2015 12:49

Ugh, bad form to TAAT but I'm surprised at the Owen Jones fans on MN who are expressing doubt that he's behaved badly towards feminists - "if it's true" etc. It's like when a POC says they've been a victim of racism and people go "oh yeah? PROVE IT". It's a sad day when the word of him is taken over the word of women who have seen how he behaves...

PuffinsAreFictitious · 18/03/2015 11:12

Women always have to prove how something is sexist, and then when we do, we're accused by idiots of being negative and narcissistic.

Owen Jones is a muppet. And fast becoming an irrelevant one.

ArcheryAnnie · 18/03/2015 11:47

And when you do prove it, you are disbelieved anyway, and as a bonus are often accused of being "obsessive". Because monitoring the attacks against you is presumably an entirely unreasonable thing for women to do.

pand0raslunchb0x · 18/03/2015 12:28

What is poignant for me is the blind ignorance of extreme views from polar opposite ends of the scale ie: Extreme Misogynist vs Extreme Feminist - both are in sense 'narcissistic' and will therefore never reach any viable nor reasonable solutions with their current opposing mindsets.

All the while we point fingers, antagonise, remain stubborn and hateful, attacking beligerently; the other side behaves the same in retaliation and thus the cycle continues exhaustingly.

It serves well to find neutral ground, to compromise and seek solutions, to be proactive and not add to the cycle of issues.

If you must go to war on something you believe in - make sure it is considered with purpose and aim for a positive outcome.
Respectfully challenging and encouraging a wider view would gain more action and therefore achieve better results.

slug · 18/03/2015 12:32

What hell's an "extreme feminist" when it's at home?

I'm struggling to think of how equality can be "extreme" Hmm

ArcheryAnnie · 18/03/2015 12:40

It serves well to find neutral ground, to compromise and seek solutions, to be proactive and not add to the cycle of issues.

That's how women are trained to be from birth, as a class. It's by making compromise after compromise that we've found we've almost compromised ourselves out of too many of our hard-won rights. And I've seen little evidence of compromise from those who are against us, just demands for total capitulation.

If you must go to war on something you believe in - make sure it is considered with purpose and aim for a positive outcome.

Already on it, thanks.

Is that just "feminists need to be NICER and not get so angry" by another name?

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 18/03/2015 12:53

"Is that just "feminists need to be NICER and not get so angry" by another name?"

This ^

pand0raslunchb0x · 18/03/2015 12:57

Extreme Feminist is an anti-male pro-female mentality, Extreme Misogynist is the exact opposite.
Ask yourself where that view concludes to?

You'll come out looking the same as the misogynists you're trying hard to expose. They've already exposed themselves they've done the hard work for you.
How do you react / neutralise and be proactive in the future? By thinking smart.

I'm a feminist and one that seeks equality from society as a basic standard, to change the status quo but I will endeavour to be involved without being callous.

i'm rising in the male dominated business world, my own personal experiences have shaped my views of the world and I'm inspired daily by those who achieve greatness despite adversity.

ArcheryAnnie · 18/03/2015 13:04

Who this "you" that you are referring to, pand0ra? I've met quite a lot of pro-female women on MN, but I haven't yet met any who are anti-male per se. Anti-male privilege, certainly, but that's not the same thing.

OP posts:
ArcheryAnnie · 18/03/2015 13:07

i'm rising in the male dominated business world, my own personal experiences have shaped my views of the world and I'm inspired daily by those who achieve greatness despite adversity.

And this - what's the point of this? The entire world is male-dominated, not just the "business world". I'm inspired daily by those who help their sisters up, despite adversity, and who don't try to make an equivalence where there isn't one between patriarchy and right of women to try and change that patriarchy.

If you'd like a shortened version of that, how about this: misandry isn't a real thing. Hope that helps.

ApocalypseThen · 18/03/2015 13:10

I'd like some examples if that extremism, not vague references to it.

Cariad007 · 18/03/2015 13:11

I'm reminded of two young women I overheard on the bus one day - university students, white and middle-class, who were saying that feminism is no longer needed because "we're all equal now anyway." Yes dear, you probably are as you live in a little bubble of privilege, but it sure as hell isn't like that for all women!

pand0raslunchb0x · 18/03/2015 13:12

Now now. See how you've started to expose your antagonist side? I'm not looking to descend into an argument, but thanks all the same.
This is the Internet - we're airing views here I wasn't directly addressing you personally.
Take my post however you wish Annie, hopefully with good intentions Smile

ArcheryAnnie · 18/03/2015 13:21

Eh, I call goady. How dull.

OP posts:
zozzij · 18/03/2015 13:26

Goady and so embarrassing. "Now now" - who says that?

PuffinsAreFictitious · 18/03/2015 13:28

lol...

Oh dear.

Radical Feminism isn't extreme. It is pro-woman, but assumes that, as men have all the power presently anyway, they have the tools they need to sort their own problems out, and so they can be disregarded. If RFs win their political struggle, the root cause of sex inequality will be gone anyway, radical meaning root and all.

And no, misandry isn't a real thing. In the same way as sexism toward men isn't real, or racism toward white people.

pand0raslunchb0x · 18/03/2015 13:28

I'm here for feminist chat, whether you like my view or not its on topic. Sorry it doesn't align to to your ways of thinking or entertainment favours.
