fgs. I thought you had to be intelligent to be a judge. Don't they at least give them basic training?

judge should be sacked.

Oh and to be clear I am talking about THIS case in particular - ie one where the offence has happened through the internet, which, thankfully is ONE area that the adults in charge of any child can control. Not whether they are snatched from the street or raped at knifepoint. You can advise a child on how to stay safe but you couldn't prevent things like that. Whether a computer is unsupervised or not is easily controlled so somewhere a responsible adult has failed to protect that child be it her parents or the parents of a friend.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 06/04/2011 20:38

stop backtracking and pretending you haven't.
your victimblaming is revolting.

Fair enough Seth, I expressed myself poorly there. If you read my recent posts you will understand what I was trying to say as I have taken the time to explain.

Mary1988 · 06/04/2011 20:40

When and where did I blame the 13yr old victim exactly?

Mary1988 · 06/04/2011 20:41

My 'fair enough...' post was in response to your quoting me. Not your 20.38 post which is ludicrous.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 06/04/2011 20:45

I understand very well what you are trying to say and if you had read my recent posts you would understand what I meant by saying you are victim blaming.

the point is you are attempting to displace blame from the perpetrator.

good luck with never ever ever letting your children have unsupervised internet access at the age of thirteen in an age when many kids in school have I-Phones and Blackberries.

Mary1988 · 06/04/2011 20:52

Seth 'I think the 'I blame the parents' attitude is still victim-blaming'- well that's fine but I disagree. I have repeatedly said the blame lies with the paedophile not the victim but in order to argue your case you are choosing to ignore what I am saying.
I agree it is going to be tough with iphones etc but this isn't watching a two minute clip in the toilets at school this sounds more like hours of unsupervised access, long enough for the paedophile to groom a child.

HerBeX · 06/04/2011 22:14

And again, you are putting the responsibility for a child not being groomed, onto her parents, not onto a peadophile.

Anything whcih seeks to apportion blame to anyone but the perpetrator, is a bit suspect in my book. Especially as we do not know what the circumstances were. Best to assume that the person who was most to blame, was the perpetrator here.

sakura · 07/04/2011 15:15

rehabilitation is a load of bollox, as is "he was not of sane mind at the time of the crime"

In any case these men need locking up for society's protection. It's not all about them

sakura · 07/04/2011 15:19

Oh and Mary,

I have more faith in men than you. I know that your average guy knows right from wrong. What kind of sicko talks to a thirteen year old girl online for two minutes let alone hours

What possible interest would a normal man have in a thirteen year old. Her conversation? Her wit? Or her immature child body... Hmmm

mumblecrumble · 09/04/2011 21:50

I think some of you have very rosey tinted veiws of 13 year old girls.

"What possible interest would a normal man have in a thirteen year old. Her conversation? Her wit? Or her immature child body... Hmmm"

You reckon?!?!!? My God. You certainly haven;t met the year 8/9 kids I have. I suspect that if you met them on a thurday night in town you would have trouble distinguishing them from girls who are 16+ and 18+.

There are also 13 year old girls who totally get off on seducing older men as it makes them feel powerful and also they know they can get chaps into trouble.

Also. You are out of date, Kids don;t use PCS now they have the tinternet on their phones, all day, unsupervised.

HerBeX · 09/04/2011 21:53

oh ffs mumblecrumble spare us the shit about blaming children for being raped.

Who cares what 13 year old girls look like? Men shouldn't be raping them.

mumblecrumble · 09/04/2011 22:07

Hee heee. You think that when 12 year old girls chat about their nights conquests and show pictures of them snogging and shagging older men I don't think there is something wrong????

What a shame you resort to calling my opinion shit.

I was pointing out that quite often 13 year olds bodies are not the bodies typical of children.

Also, you presume that they go round with a 'I;ve just turned 13; badge on. (My lot go to an over 18s club by the way.)

Have reread the original article and am wondering why he wasn;t punished for the images and stuff - did I read that wrong?

It doesn't matter what the 12 year olds boast about, they are children.

Do you understand why 12 year olds don't have the vote, mumblecrumble?

Do you understand the difference between a child and an adult?

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 09/04/2011 22:11

are you a man Mumblecrumble?

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 09/04/2011 22:13

if someone looks like a 16 year old but you have no other evidence as to her age, simple, don't have sex with her. It's not that hard. Casual sex with teenage girls is not a necessity for life.

Just to clarify - in rape I blame the rapist.

My issue was with the '13 year olds obcioualy having immature bodies'

mumblecrumble · 09/04/2011 22:34

I tittered at the imaturity and cliche forum agressivness of 'spare us the shit'
I am also laughing at the irony that in a femist forum you ask my gender.

Good lordy, did you think I was laughing at rape?

mumblecrumble · 09/04/2011 22:35

Also, several of the teenagers were young males and some of them even bragged about older women.

Again, lots of gender stereotyping going on here. Really sad

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 09/04/2011 22:38

I don't think you know very much about feminism if you think it is ironic that you were asked your sex on a feminist forum.
I agree with StayFrosty, I would not let you anywhere near my children with attitudes like the ones you are displaying on this thread and the one about the porn documentary.

"There are also 13 year old girls who totally get off on seducing older men as it makes them feel powerful and also they know they can get chaps into trouble."

Yes. There are. Often, it is the fact that they are being/have been sexually abused which drives this behaviour.

If 'chaps' are worried about getting into trouble, they can protect themselves by not having sex with children. Or not downloading images of children being violently raped, just in case anyone thinks that they may want to have sex with children. Better safe than sorry and all that.
