Please help me avoid the most embarrassing trip to A&E

My menstrual disc is stuck. Please help me. The instructions I find online don't work. I can't just get my finger under it and pull it out. I can barely reach it and bearing down doesn't change anything as it just goes back up again.
There's a little hook but it's pointing the wrong way so I can't use it. Can't grip the disc and can't get thumb or second finger up there. Squatting doesn't work either.

Not sure it's an A&E job to be fair but try and use your finger in a ' come here ' position to get some purchase around the rim and pull down until you can use the hook.

RudsyFarmer · 05/12/2023 11:27

You have to bare down and get your finger around the side. One foot on the toilet, bare down and it will come out.

AdultLounge · 05/12/2023 11:29

Would a nurse at your local GP surgery not be able to take it out for you? They've seen it all.

I went to see my GP once convinced I had cervical cancer. During the internal she fished out a 2 week old tampon. The smell!

user1483387154 · 05/12/2023 11:36

squat and bare down, hope it works

Discsareshit · 05/12/2023 16:02

My GP doesn't have a nurse (I'm not in the UK) I think I'd rather have sepsis than go to my GP about this. I wonder if a women's clinic could give me a quick appointment. Last time I tried that I gave up after a few weeks of waiting for cancellations though.

I don't have a bath, but tried foot on the sink and nothing also squatting in the shower and the thing is just too high up. I can touch it, but I can't grip it and as I said, the hook thing is not accessible.

I think I've just done something stupid putting something in a place I can't reach!

I hope it's been autodumping when I've been trying to get it out so at least hopefully won't overflow too much.

Could I use my tweezers???

Where are you? Yes go to women's clinic are you in the US or Europe?

ThatWriterInTheCorner · 05/12/2023 16:07

If you're in the UK, can you get to a Minor Injuries unit rather than A&E? Hopefully you'd be seen quicker, and definitely you wouldn't be taking up emegency resources

TravellingT · 05/12/2023 16:13

You could try tweezers- I'd rather you try clean tweezers and fail than leave it there! Pour boiling water on them, clean them as best as you can (even soap will do). Go very slow and pinch slowly too.

sunfsymondyue · 05/12/2023 16:13

omg the same happened to me. i’d only been with my boyfriend (now dh) for a month and i was so desperate i got him to help me get it out 😂 most embarrassing moment of my life. i would’ve gone to a&e otherwise though

TravellingT · 05/12/2023 16:15

As I've done this before, I remember using a wooden spoon handle, not to try to hook it out but to flatten the side, releasing the suction. I was in an airbnb with no one and nothing to help (and replaced the wooden spoon the next day). You could try something like that, something that can be cleaned preferably. It's likely the suction has stopped it from moving down, you need to break the vacuum.

Ohthatsfabulousdarling · 05/12/2023 16:16

Do you have a partner?
This is the kind of thing I'd cry to my husband about and see if he would help me retrieve...luckily haven't had to, but I would!

FreshWinterMorning · 05/12/2023 16:17

Have you got it out yet @Discsareshit ? Blush

ChristmasSteps295 · 05/12/2023 16:19

I forgot I had a tampon in once before sex. I could not get the fucker out for love nor money.

I had to get the guy I was dating to yank it out 😬

Curtainscurtains · 05/12/2023 16:20

There's nothing embarrassing about this. It's routine work for an A and E doctor.

Don't be silly, go get it taken out. They've seen a lot worse!

GoodnightJude1 · 05/12/2023 16:40

I really don’t think you’d rather have sepsis than go to your GP. That was a really silly comment.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 05/12/2023 16:42

Pop a cushion under your bottom to bring your cervix forward.

bonzaitree · 05/12/2023 16:49

Defo ask your husband or partner if you have one. If not go see a doctor or nurse they will have seen it before and will be easy for them to remove.

notthefourpercent · 05/12/2023 16:51

Ahhh, this happened to me! I can still remember the absolute stress of it. You need to relax to get it out otherwise you’ll just be tensing all up in there and it’s not going to budge. I forced myself to forget about it for a little while, and then gave myself an orgasm and tried again and it came right out. Perhaps worth a go if you don’t have a partner to get involved or don’t want them to! Good luck!

cerisepanther73 · 05/12/2023 16:52

I agree this is matter of routine for A& E doctor @Discsareshit

ActDottie · 05/12/2023 16:54

I’d go to a&e it’s an accident not an emergency but obviously still fits the criteria for a&e. And I imagine much safer for it to be removed somewhere sterile than with something make shift.

Glad it's not just me that was slightly irked by that. I'm sensitive to the subject but still don't think it was remotely funny.

TomatoSandwiches · 05/12/2023 17:03

If you don't have a nurse practitioner at your GP surgery then absolutely go to A&E, I apologise, I presumed you had that option available.

pickledandpuzzled · 05/12/2023 17:06

It’s not a panic situation- wait and try again. Maybe after a night’s sleep, or after emptying your bowels. It will come out.
