Please help me avoid the most embarrassing trip to A&E

My menstrual disc is stuck. Please help me. The instructions I find online don't work. I can't just get my finger under it and pull it out. I can barely reach it and bearing down doesn't change anything as it just goes back up again.
There's a little hook but it's pointing the wrong way so I can't use it. Can't grip the disc and can't get thumb or second finger up there. Squatting doesn't work either.

I'm glad you got it out OP.

I once got a menstrual cup stuck, the suction was too strong then with all the trying to remove it my cervix swelled around the top of it. My husband couldn't retrieve it either so I went to see the nurse at my GP surgery. She couldn't either. So they dispatched me off to A&E as it had been more than 24 hours at this point. They couldn't either so was booked in for day surgery the next day. Ended up with a general anaesthetic as I was so sore, bruised and swollen. My cervix had started to pretty much swallow the cup.

I needed antibiotics for potential infection as it had been 48 hours plus at the time of extraction and told no more internal protection.

Nightmare, pads all the way now

Well I never! I have never heard of a menstrual disc!

My mind instantly conjured up a CD!

Hope you get it sorted, it sounds painful.

Please don’t put pointy things inside you!

I thought I got a tampon stuck and after hours of trying to get it out, I called my Dad to babysit my daughter (husband was working) and drove to A&E with a pre-typed note on my phone explaining the situation and how long it had been in me.

A few hours later, I got seen. The doctor said they get loads of women in for this, and it’s usually not up there - as was my case 🙈 so I felt very foolish. But the doctor said they would always prefer patients to come in and get checked than for someone to be too embarrassed and become ill. Or worse, do themselves some damage with a DIY retrieval attempt!

Hope you get safely sorted.

Jesus, I thought you were going to say you called your dad to have him fish it out for you 😱

OutOfSyncWithReality · 05/12/2023 23:51

Glad you got it sorted OP. I can imagine how panicky I would feel in your shoes.

Well now I've gone from feeling I was a bad person for even thinking of going to A&E (first or second post!) to thinking I should never have been embarrassed about it and being made to feel awful because I dared make a joke about sepsis!

It's obvious you have little understanding of sepsis to have made such a joke. My dad died as a result of sepsis because the Dr didn't believe me when I said he had an infection.

Other posters have lost someone or had potential life changing issues as a result of sepsis yet you are complaining about being made to feel awful about a topic that just shouldn't be joked about.

I'm glad you've managed to sort your problem.

😳😆😶 there aren’t enough emojis in the world to express my reactions to that 🙈🤣

Finger length is really key. I remember being told some people with really short fingers couldn't manage contraceptive diaphragms and I suppose keeper type period things.

ZiggyZowie · 06/12/2023 00:47

It's bear down not bare.

I would go to a & e. I once put 2 super tampons in ( I know) at once and they had to get them out

OMG. I had already sworn off cups before trying the discs because of the suction. How traumatic.

" being made to feel awful about a topic that just shouldn't be joked about."

If I had said I'd rather die than go to the GP, would you accuse me of joking about death, or would you understand I was using hyperbole to make a point and that it was not meant to be taken literally?

There should be a warning on the packet!

omg the same happened to me. i’d only been with my boyfriend (now dh) for a month and i was so desperate i got him to help me get it out 😂 most embarrassing moment of my life. i would’ve gone to a&e otherwise though

That's why he's now your husband. I tell my daughter. If they're prudish about anything female, they're not keepers.

Just easily embarrassed lol

Back in the day on holiday in the arse end of nowhere I couldn't get my tampon out. I spent ages trying and ended up phoning the local doctor (it was that long ago). He told me to go to the local hospital for local people and he would inform them I was on my way.

There I was, lying on the bed with two nurses fishing up my fanjo when one of them straightened up and said "Are you not embarrassed?". They'd probably have needed treatment themselves had I presented with a tin of soup up my hoop.

Have you got a wooden spoon for cooking? Maybe use the long handle to grip the disc at the side and pull it out?

minimomma1 · 06/12/2023 18:01

Please don't worry about embarrassment going to UCC or AE .As someone whose worked in an A&E dept we've seen much worse lost in crevisis and your more likely to cause yourself further injury by putting something else up there to get it out . ❤️

Gowlett · 06/12/2023 18:01

What is a menstrual disc?
Never heard of it until now…
Still using Tampax (thankfully!)

bananamangoes · 06/12/2023 18:41

In fairness, context and atmosphere plays a part. This was more of a miners lamp on the helmet 🪖 🔦 exploratory mission.

QueenofTerrasen · 06/12/2023 19:10

Just own the fact you made a horrible shitty joke about something you never should have. Playing the victim over it is ridiculous, as is continuing to defend yourself. It was a stupid and highly insensitive thing to say. You'd feel differently if you'd been in the position some of the rest of us have. Would you make a cancer joke? No, because it's not funny. Neither is sepsis.
