Please help me avoid the most embarrassing trip to A&E

My menstrual disc is stuck. Please help me. The instructions I find online don't work. I can't just get my finger under it and pull it out. I can barely reach it and bearing down doesn't change anything as it just goes back up again.
There's a little hook but it's pointing the wrong way so I can't use it. Can't grip the disc and can't get thumb or second finger up there. Squatting doesn't work either.

Just wondering what being from Ireland might have to do with anything?

Frances0911 · 06/12/2023 19:57

Go to a sexual health clinic, they won't blink an eyelid.

MandEmummy · 06/12/2023 20:01

Sit on the toilet and relax (difficult I'm sure) and get right up there... wish you luck!

In fairness, context and atmosphere plays a part. This was more of a miners lamp on the helmet 🪖 🔦 exploratory mission.

😂

Oh they do! How else do the stories get out into the public domain?! That said, the one about the fish in a bladder is a load of nonsense. Anyone who has passed a catheter on a woman knows that that story is just nonsense.

waddlemyway · 06/12/2023 20:59

Ahhhhh I had my coil taken out a few weeks ago. Haven’t had my period in years. Treated myself to a box of different sizes of discs and cleaning bits’n’bobs in the Black Friday sales which arrived today. Was actually looking forward to my period coming but then - this thread. Aaaagghhh!!

@notthefourpercent I thought your suggestion of giving yourself an orgasm was a very smart idea, I’m surprised no one else commented or mentioned similar - I just hope my pre-menstrual brain retains this suggestion for future should the need ever arise.

I actually can't believe people believe nonsense like that.🙄

All in one go?

Imagwine · 06/12/2023 22:15

I got a tampon stuck and after hours of trying to get it out, I called my Dad to babysit my daughter (husband was working) and drove to A&E with a pre-typed note on my phone explaining the situation and how long it had been in me.

Thats really clever. When it happened to me the most embarrassing part was having to explain the problem in front of a waiting room full of people.

Missingpop · 06/12/2023 22:19

You might be embarrassed but they’ve seen far more things put into different orifices that are soooo much more embarrassing.

And I’m guessing your very young & very immature; because if your were an adult you’d know that sepsis is a illness that causes thousands of deaths every year; it’s not just a “cool infection” it’s a hideous illness that can leave people debilitated if they recover.

Twinklewonderkins · 06/12/2023 22:33

I got a menstrual cup lodged sideways once and DP got it out (long man fingers)

Now you're just bragging.😂

Champers66 · 07/12/2023 01:50

Trust me you would not rather have sepsis than go to a doctor. Silly thing to say.

Billben · 07/12/2023 07:43

JamieJ93 · 05/12/2023 17:26

Oh yes, I'm sure you'd rather have sepsis!
As it goes, I had sepsis and nearly had to have my left leg amputated,
What a stupid insensitive comment!!

Blimey, sensitive much? Find a way to learn to live with your own triggers

Thanks Callio. I don't appreciate the unnecessary prude shaming.

"Would you make a cancer joke? No,"

I have already said that I would make a joke about death eg 'I'd rather die than ...' so that includes serious illnesses.

You'll probably be OK if you have longer fingers. It might also be because I bought a lesser known one I saw advertised on FB. It has an applicator (a 'new' thing with discs I believe) so you can insert it higher than you can reach, which I now realise is the problem!

I'm middle aged and I know someone who got sepsis. I was being hyperbolic.

The whole reason for trying the disc is peri-menopausal heavier periods.

discoworld · 27/12/2023 15:14

OP, I'm glad to hear you got it out! What a relief!
At the same time - thank you for letting me know it can be inserted high enough to stay in place!
I've never heard of applicators for discs. I heard about the discs only a few months ago for the first time in an article about absorbency of various period products. I tried it hoping to avoid tons of used materials and the wet and sweaty feeling of pads.
The disc didn't stay in place for long, but having read your story I have managed to put it in a higher place, and it stays!

LovelyBitOfSquirrrel · 28/08/2024 23:44

@Discsareshit the pixie discs come with a string attached like a tampon so they are easy to remove

I don't think it's still in there after 8 months.

Yes I know. Which is why I recommended an alternative to use as OP said she would have liked to keep using them. I wouldn’t suggest an alternative to put up there with another one…

8 months is still not quite enough to get over the fear of ever using a disc again, but if I do one day, I will bear this in mind.
