Tampon lost....

LifesTooShortYOLO · 11/04/2022 16:50

So embarrassing, I put a medium flow tampax compact pearl tampon in earlier today and the string was out nicely.
I've got to remove it now and I can't feel anything no string hanging out, and I've had a little feel just inside and I can't feel anything either.
Is it possible the tampon dropped out when going to the toilet today without me noticing? It had happened a few times before but I've felt it coming out.
I'm so worried I don't know if it's possible it's just disappeared up inside or something?! I haven't put any more tampons in it had sex so is it highly unlikely a tampon would just go up inside on its own?

Squat down , bare down and have a feel about.

TequilaShot · 11/04/2022 17:25

Do not leave this if you feel it might be still inside go and get it checked asap. A lost tampon can cause toxic shock syndrome. Better to be safe.

LifesTooShortYOLO · 11/04/2022 20:52

I've had a feel and I don't think I can feel anything but I'm
Not sure 🙁

There's a slight possibility it got squeezed out if you popped today...

LifesTooShortYOLO · 11/04/2022 20:59

That's what I was hoping. I mean I've heard of tampons being 'pushed' up by insetting another tampon or having sex with one in but if the string was hanging neatly out surely it couldn't just suck up and disappear?! I only went for a short walk.

I had this recently and also panicked about it being lost in me. Apparently there is nowhere for it to go as it can't get out of the uterus. But if you do have one left up there it can cause toxic shock syndrome which would make you very ill. You have to squat, use a mirror and see if you can feel a string.

RainBow725 · 11/04/2022 21:07

I did this a few weeks ago - also with a pearl. The squat method works but it takes some effort! Good luck 🍀

4intheCorner · 11/04/2022 21:12

I've had this a couple of times. My tampons somehow have the ability to flip 180 degrees so I have nothing to grab and pull on Confused

It will th up there, I have a what I can only describe as a little pouch mine like to hide in Blush

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 11/04/2022 21:13

Sounds daft, but check the applicator you used. I thought I had lost one, but found it still in the applicator. If not, and you did say you felt the string, get straight down to a&e for removal. They will only use a smear test thing to have a proper look, so it won't hurt.

LifesTooShortYOLO · 11/04/2022 21:13

Oh god I'm really worried now. I had hoped it may have fallen out when going to the loo.
With you girls that have had it get lost did it do it on its own? Or did you put another tampon in to push it up?

OP posts:
Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 11/04/2022 21:16

OP, Tampons just don't 'drop out'.

If you can't find it after much fiddling and poking you need to see the nurse at your GP surgery.

Toxic shock syndrome is caused by poor hygiene - ie not washing hands before inserting tampon - not by tampon use per se.

Make an appointment for the GPS tomorrow.

I would be deeply concerned if a tampon got in to the uterus Confused

OP it's unlikely it fell out without you noticing.

alexdgr8 · 11/04/2022 21:18

go to a hosp now OP.
don't delay.
they are used to dealing with such things.
having seen severe sepsis more than once, i urge you not to waste time wondering.

ohthejoysoftoddler · 11/04/2022 21:19

Is it possible you removed it and forgot?

I did have one stuck in after an embarrassingly drunken evening that involved some sex...I went to A&E in the end, my partner even tried to remove it and couldn't. Embarrassed face. But they were really good about it.

I should add I was about 23 at the time, so quite a few moons ago

Thewheelsfalloffthebus · 11/04/2022 21:20

It absolutely cannot get lost in your body OP. A tampon can’t go past the cervix. Either it fell into the toilet earlier today or it’s stil in your vagina. If you’re not sure, go to A&E. A nurse will use a speculum to look inside and check and remove if it’s still there. This happens every single day in A&E departments. It’s not a big deal. The longer you leave lt, the higher your risk of infection and the more gross it will be.

PearsandPartridge · 11/04/2022 21:20

Ok. It happened to me, it's so incredibly embarrassing and only sharing for the OPs benefit 🤣 OP, if there is a chance it's there, just they and reach up as deep as you can...

I accidentally put two tampons up - well, the cord disappeared so when I went to change my tampon and there was no cord, I convinced myself that I must have gotten confused and not put one up earlier, so I put another one up, no problem. It was during a very stressful time when I wasn't sleeping and working all the hours so I genuinely just couldn't remember...

Four days. It took me 4 frigging days to realise that something was wrong. It kept playing on my mind so I was having a feel during every shower but couldn't find anything so I was back to the conclusion that I got confused!

After 4 days the odour was quite bad so there was absolutely no doubt. I put one leg up the side of bath, and there it was, laying to the what it felt like the side of my insides, in a very weird angle. It was an effort to get it out and I was so worried about the smell and sepsis or infection that I called 111 and I got to see an OOO GP within a couple of hours. Got some antibiotics, she had another look and there we go. I'm still clinging thinking about what a right nutter they would have thought I was!!

No chance of this being identifying though as I never told ANYONE 😅😩

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 11/04/2022 21:21

(TMI warning) I lost one up there for 10 days. Had a proper dig around in the first couple of days and could have sworn it wasn't there. Only after the smell became unbearable did I have another dig and I found it sideways up against my cervix. It was the most disgusting thing ever. Went to drs as it needed checking that I got it all out and I had also grazed my cervix so needed a small mesh thing inserting.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 11/04/2022 21:22

My summary....keep looking. And cut your nails.

Could you feel it? How long was it in for?

"Could you feel it? How long was it in for?"

Mortified sharing this, but only doing so in case it helps!

No, I couldn't. My partner said that he thought he could feel something the next day when we were ahem, intimate. So much rummaging and I couldn't. It was about 24 hours in before I went to A&E. as PP said, speculum and quick removal. No judgement, as you'd expect.

Yourenotinvited · 11/04/2022 21:28

I might be tempted to douche in this situation.. might dislodge it if it is stuck.

Cakeandcoffee93 · 11/04/2022 21:31

Yes I know someone who this happened to and the gp removed as she said it stunk after a while and completely forgot. So don’t panic but yeah I’d get it checked with gp

RedCabbageHowMuch · 11/04/2022 21:34

I thought I'd lost one, had a good root around and pulled my coil out, turns there wasn't one in there in the first place.
I also think when they're particularly heavy in the morning, they can slip out while on the loo.
Get it checked out as soon as you, I bet it happens more than we think Blush

ValerieDoonican · 11/04/2022 21:34

Yy to being absolutely certain its out but it is possible for them to plop out if they are soggy enough and your pelvic floor is -ah- not all that, iyswim. At least, this has definitely happened to me - though I was kind of aware.....

HippeePrincess · 11/04/2022 21:36

How big are all your vaginas? I simply don’t understand how it could go so far you couldn’t feel it and grab it unless you have really short fingers? Grin
