2WW for breast clinic referral - anyone care to join me?

Referred to breast clinic yesterday after finally acknowledging I wasn't imagining the indent on my left boob. Normally I'm very sanguine and unflappy but this has me completely distracted and tearful. I've banned myself from Google (easy now as I've read everything ever published about breast indents over the last 24 hours) but have no idea how I'm going to avoid going bonkers while I wait. I don't want to talk about it IRL till I know if there's anything to talk about, but think I need an outlet. Anyone else in the same boat?

Aw that's good Vi37! How are you feeling now?

I really want to be a Mum (I thought I had time as only just 30) so I'm feeling a bit worried about that depending on the result on Wednesday too but obviously it's nothing compared to some of the fears that health scares bring up when you already have DC.

Have you let anyone at work know about your appointment- do you have to take the day off work on Friday or is it a day off anyway?

Fluffysunshinepants · 05/11/2018 22:27

Hi, attended a gp appointment this evening after finding a lump, so my 2 week wait is just beginning! Also prescribed a hefty dose of antibiotics for a week, is this normal?

EmilyRosiEl · 05/11/2018 22:39

Hi Fluffysunshinepants,

I'm really sorry to hear that- it's a stressful two week wait!

I think that antibiotics are frequently given if there's any doubt over an infected abscess or cellulitis. I've heard of lots of people being prescribed antibiotics for that. The good thing though is that the GP has made a referral because some people get sent away with antibiotics and told to wait a week before going back to the GP whereas you've done everything you can now and know it's in hand.

I hope you're OK at the moment? Everyone feels worried whilst waiting!

My appointment is this Wednesday and it does feel better to have a definite date for the appointment so I hope you get your appointment letter through soon!

Fluffysunshinepants · 06/11/2018 02:17

Feelings are a bit mixed at the moment, relieved that the wheels are in motion but anxious for the result. Unfortunately my family history isn't the best, guess i'm just riding the roller-coaster

Vi37 · 06/11/2018 09:04

Hi EmilyrosiEl not great again this morning, fridays my day off now anyway so it’s a fantastic way to spend my first day off. I’ve told a few people at work and my bosses just in case I’m not in next week. X

Vi37 · 06/11/2018 09:20

Sorry to hear you’re joining the the lump club fluffysunshinepants!

EmilyRosiEl · 06/11/2018 10:00

Hi Fluffysunshinepants,

It's so good that the referral is sorted but yes it's definitely an anxious time and must be a bit harder with a family history too.

I hope you're OK today!

Hi Vi37,

I hope you start to feel better as the day goes on! It's a good idea to tell work. Yeah I can imagine better ways to spend Friday! I had horrible dreams last night and woke up in a panic- my appointment is 28 hours away now. I don't have a DP/DH so will be going with my Mum who is prone to stress-migraines so that's not going to be great!

Vi37 · 06/11/2018 10:28

Oh no! X

Vi37 · 06/11/2018 11:21

I will be there virtually with you if you like!

EmilyRosiEl · 06/11/2018 11:43

Aw thanks Vi37! my anxiety is a little higher today with it being so soon now.

How's your day going?

Vi37 · 06/11/2018 12:20

Started off ok but I’m sat in an office on my own so that’s quite a lot of thinking time and it’s not doing me any good.

EmilyRosiEl · 06/11/2018 12:30

Aw that's stressful- can you go for a quick walk during your lunch break to help with the anxiety?

Vi37 · 06/11/2018 14:54

Unfortunately no, I only have half an hour for my lunch, I’ve to go home to let my doggy out for a wee and have my dinner then go back to work!

EmilyRosiEl · 06/11/2018 16:00

Oh dear, more stress! beside the point but what type of dog do you have?

I'm just back from walking my golden retriever! Thinking about going for another run to stop me having too much time to worry!

Vi37 · 06/11/2018 16:25

Golden retrievers are lovely, mines a little jack russell shes fantastic and lovable and she’s absolutely nuts! She’s called Kimble.

EmilyRosiEl · 06/11/2018 19:25

Aw she sounds lovely- cute name too!

Trying to stay calm tonight and just hoping for the best. I'm a bit worried that they'll take a biopsy because that will mean 1-2 week wait to find out what it is!

Vi37 · 06/11/2018 20:00

I know what you mean, it’s been hard enough waiting for the appointment without the extra week or so. 😕

EmilyRosiEl · 06/11/2018 20:11

Yes definitely. I'm really hoping they just do an ultrasound for each of us and we know without having the worry of biopsy results!

Vi37 · 06/11/2018 20:15

I think that would be the dream! I’m getting more panicky as it draws near. How are you?

Thingywhatsit · 06/11/2018 20:20

just popped on to wish you luck ** - hoping you get some good news tomorrow afternoon!

Well done vi for getting through the day - not long to go for you. You have done really well coping so far with the wait. You are the last bit now!

Welcome fluffy - sorry you have to be here. Hope your appointment come through quick for you.

Not much of an update here - unfortunately i bruise easily. I should have remembered that and taken some arnica beforehand. Took today off work - just cos I slept like crap last night and I was struggling to get my sports bra off this morning so I could shower! So I just thought sod it I will have a duvet day! Feel much better tonight, boob is tender but the pain has nearly completely subsided now.

EmilyRosiEl · 06/11/2018 20:26

Aw that's a really good idea to have a duvet day Thingwhatsit! Are you taking ibuprofen and paracetamol?

I'm dreading my appointment tomorrow but hoping for more good news!

Vi37 · 06/11/2018 20:35

Thank you Thingywatsit. X

Fluffysunshinepants · 06/11/2018 20:52

Thank you all, appointment is scheduled for 15th, earlier than expected, which set me off worrying again. Also commenced antibiotics this morning

EmilyRosiEl · 06/11/2018 21:31

Hi Fluffy,

Don't worry too much about it being earlier- I think it's just luck for the most part as they're not really able to arrange anything specific within the two-week window and it's good that you'll be able to get it out of the way!

The antibiotic prescription suggests that the GP might be thinking that it could be some sort of abscess/infection so maybe that's a good sign although obviously speculating without any medical knowledge is a bit silly of me! My Mum had an abscess with cellulitis on top of a benign lump last year and she was prescribed antibiotics first and then sent to the one-stop clinic under a two-week referral so it could be something like that.

I think I'll be OK tomorrow if they can tell what is wrong from the Ultrasound but I might struggle to keep it together if I have to wait for biopsy results afterwards. I so hope it's not Inflammatory breast cancer!

Fluffysunshinepants · 06/11/2018 21:47

My sister is attending with me, we both have a similar sense of humour which will help me through hopefully and she has also experinced a biopsy etc. So has been able to talk me through it.

Fingers and toes crossed for you EmilyrosiEL x
