2WW for breast clinic referral - anyone care to join me?

Referred to breast clinic yesterday after finally acknowledging I wasn't imagining the indent on my left boob. Normally I'm very sanguine and unflappy but this has me completely distracted and tearful. I've banned myself from Google (easy now as I've read everything ever published about breast indents over the last 24 hours) but have no idea how I'm going to avoid going bonkers while I wait. I don't want to talk about it IRL till I know if there's anything to talk about, but think I need an outlet. Anyone else in the same boat?

My first day back at work today after 9 months of maternity leave, leaving my little boy all day. Then my appointment at the breast clinic on Friday it’s such a lot to deal with this week. X

EmilyRosiEl · 05/11/2018 12:03

Wow, that's really tricky Vi37. You're doing amazingly to turn up! Is the distraction helpful or are you finding it tricky to focus on work? x

I'm feeling a bit anxious today because the appointment is fast approaching.

Thingywhatsit · 05/11/2018 12:20

Hope your first day back is going ok Vi37.

First day back at work for me after a week off and have my mammo and ultrasound and probably a biopsy appt at 4. Not currently stressing too much although I didn’t sleep great last night.

EmilyRosiEl · 05/11/2018 12:25

Poor you Thingwhatsit- that's tons to cope with in one day.

Thinking of you today and really hoping for good news for you!! Please let us know how you get on.

Sending a hug and hope for today!

Thingywhatsit · 05/11/2018 12:50

Thanks emily, am currently in the mode of “what will be, Will be”. Our system here is different to the Uk - hence its about 5 weeks since my first gp appt. I doubt I will get any results today or actually see a dr! will basically be my tests and then will just be waiting for another appt or a letter through the post saying it’s clear. So will have more waiting to go..... so wish we had a one stop shop Breast clinic here!

EmilyRosiEl · 05/11/2018 13:08

Oh dear, that sounds so much more stressful! Which tests are planned for today?

Are you from the UK originally? would you be able to come over for testing? Or could you book an MRI privately to hurry things along?

Vi37 · 05/11/2018 13:24

Hi ladies, I think the distraction is helpful. I’m going to be shattered tonight though I think. I’m pretty lucky because my mum and dad are looking after him and they’re about ten seconds walk over the road from work! Are you in the USA or somewhere else then Thingywatsit?

EmilyRosiEl · 05/11/2018 14:04

That's great that they're so close by Vi37 and that you know he's being well looked after by your parents.

Vi37 · 05/11/2018 14:07

I know, I’m incredibly lucky. X

Cambalamb · 05/11/2018 15:10

Thinking of you all this week.

Thingywhatsit · 05/11/2018 17:16

Well girls, am sat on the bus with a very numb boob! The mammogram lady had lots of fun trying to get my tiny boobs in the machine and then she told me the name of the dr I would be seeing for the ultrasound. He was a year younger than me at school and lived down the lane! We’ve had 2 chance meetings in last 8 weeks at the hospital! They offered me another dr but as he was the consultant radiologist I thought I might as well have him!

So anyways mammo looked like 3 cysts, ultrasound showed 2 small cysts and 1 larger “thing” that is most likely to be a Fibroadenoma. Had 2 punch biopsy’s taken and then the cysts aspirated. He says he is 90% sure it looks fine.

Results will probably be ready to be discussed at next weeks MDT on Wednesday, and I will get called into clinic at the end of next week after the meeting for results.

Boob will probably be black and blue tomorrow- apparently I’m a bleeder so more likely it will bruise. Popped back into work after and I just need to text if I’m not going in in the morning.

Vi37 · 05/11/2018 17:30

So glad everything sounded positive Thingywatsit. I’ve just had a massive meltdown as soon as my partner came in from work. I just can’t stop crying.

Cambalamb · 05/11/2018 17:33

That's brilliant news Thingy , those damn cysts! Your description of a fibre sounds like mine. Dis you have an ultrasound on it?

V Hang in there. Sometimes you need t let it out then carry on. I'm sure you'll get your relief very soon.

Cambalamb · 05/11/2018 17:33

fibroadenoma!

Cambalamb · 05/11/2018 17:34

How embarrassing about the doctor thingy Grin

Thingywhatsit · 05/11/2018 17:43

It was amusing! The hca and mammo lady said I was very brave and we had a giggle whilst it was all going on! I may have called the dr a bastard when he numbed me up though! That was the worst bit!

Mammo didn’t hurt - was just like getting your boobs squeezed hard. (And I am due my period next week so according to the leaflet I got I could have asked to delay my appointment due to sensitivity but I wanted it done ASAP) Worst bit of that was the poor mammo lady trying to get the tiny things in the machine!

Yes they did a ultrasound and used that to do the biopsy/aspirations too.

Anyways I prefer all of today’s happenings to childbirth - a lot less painful!

Thingywhatsit · 05/11/2018 17:51

Ok just had a look in the mirror - my boob is already starting to have a blue tinge to it! It’s still numb but starting to tingle! Have taken some painkillers for when the numbness wears off

Vi37 · 05/11/2018 18:03

Thank you cambalamb x

EmilyRosiEl · 05/11/2018 18:26

Yay, Thingy!- that's so good to hear that it's probably cysts and fibroadenoma. Well done for being brave and letting that guy see you- must have have been a little embarrassing!

I hope the pain from the biopsies wears off soon!

Was it very painful? I haven't given birth so have no frame of reference!

Vi37, I'm really sorry things are so tough- sending a hug! Do you think it got to you more when you got in tonight because you'd been too busy in the day? I am a bit panicky this evening too- I keep thinking of worst case scenario. I did just go for a nice run. Did your little boy have a nice day with his grandparents?

Cambalamb · 05/11/2018 18:27

I was told with my first lump that it was almost definitely a fibre too. I had core biopsy. I remember saying "Oh is that blood I can feel down my side?" and Dr was shocked. I felt no pain, just that the blood ran down my side(not lots, don't want to scare anyone!) It was sore and the lump felt swollen after. As the result day approached, I got scared again so prepare for that feeling. Luckily I got to phone up and the lady just said Fibroadenoma straight away to put me out of my misery. I still have it 10 years later but it has shrunk, more so as I approach late 40s.

Cambalamb · 05/11/2018 18:30

Fibro not fibre!
Emily I felt a little pain on injection to numb area but none during biopsy. Had a little bruise after.

They always have to biopsy fibros as they are solid.

EmilyRosiEl · 05/11/2018 18:33

Ouch Cambalamb, that does sound a bit painful! My Mum has had two benign lumps at different points.

I don't know how it will work with a biopsy of whatever is going on with my breasts- maybe they'll be able to diagnose something benign just based on the ultrasound. Otherwise I imagine they'll biopsy the purple (vascular congestion) part and the bite-like marks and peau d'orange- so hope not!

EmilyRosiEl · 05/11/2018 18:34

Oh sorry posted at the same time- that's good to hear the biopsy wasn't terrible despite all the blood! If everything's fine I'll happily go through a biopsy just to find out that I don't need to worry!

Vi37 · 05/11/2018 18:39

Thanks for the hug EmilyrosiEl he had a lovely day, he was having the time of his life when I went to pick him up. X

Cambalamb · 05/11/2018 18:45

Thingy which country are you in? Just interested as we are always led to believe the NHS is slow!
