2WW for breast clinic referral - anyone care to join me?

Referred to breast clinic yesterday after finally acknowledging I wasn't imagining the indent on my left boob. Normally I'm very sanguine and unflappy but this has me completely distracted and tearful. I've banned myself from Google (easy now as I've read everything ever published about breast indents over the last 24 hours) but have no idea how I'm going to avoid going bonkers while I wait. I don't want to talk about it IRL till I know if there's anything to talk about, but think I need an outlet. Anyone else in the same boat?

Hi Emily I think I eat a healthy diet in that I love vegetable and fruit, don't like cream, butter , pastry etc. I have reduced alcohol to 2/3 days per week and only a couple at a time apart from occasions! I avoid processed meat and we eat vegetarian 2 or 3 times a week as my DD is one. I breastfed my DC , stay slim, walk my dog daily and will never take HRT(mum took it for 10yrs and got a hormone fed BC) Not a great deal else you can do as we all know fit, healthy, slim people who get it.
Hope you can get some reassurance soon.

EmilyRosiEl · 11/11/2018 17:12

It sounds like you live a very healthy lifestyle Cambalamb!

Thanks- I'm hoping everything is fine.

Stardanced- I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow and that they are able to arrange an ultrasound/mammo quickly if the appointment isn't at a one-stop clinic.

I hope you are ok Fluffysunshinepants and Goose1964?

Thingy, any news about when you will get the biopsy results?

StarDanced · 12/11/2018 15:50

Hi. Appointment went ok today and they didn't feel like the problem was anything sinister. They did find a little lump in the other breast so want them both to be imaged. Just have to wait on that appointment- it may be up to 4 weeks away. Blood work was taken today as well so hopefully will get some answers soon.

EmilyRosiEl · 12/11/2018 19:20

Hi Stardanced,

That's good that it went ok today. I'm glad that they are being thorough and taking scans of both, as well as doing blood tests. Are you in the UK? 4 weeks seems a long time to wait!

It's great that they do not think it it malignant though. xx

StarDanced · 12/11/2018 19:50

I am in the UK- 4 weeks does seem a long time. The consultant seemed confident that it wasn't cancer so maybe that is why. I don't think Hampshire has progressed to all in one appointments yet!!

Cambalamb · 12/11/2018 22:11

Sounds promising Star though I thought that the triple test was standard breast care these days in the UK. Are getting milk from both breasts? As your DC are still young, could it be connected to blocked milk ducts?

Thingywhatsit · 13/11/2018 12:25

Hi all

Hopefully you won’t be waiting 4 weeks stardanced. They told me that and I had my mammo/ultrasound/biopsy 10 days later (and I was away for a week of that!)

The MDT (multi disciplinary team) meeting is tomorrow where they discuss all the results is tomorrow so i am hoping I will get called in by end of the week like they told me would happen to discuss results of my biopsy. I have a night out on Saturday to either celebrate or soften the blow with lots of wine!

Biopsy boob is now fine - bruising was extensive but has already faded from dark blue to green. You can’t even tell where they did the biopsy as it’s all heard already!

EmilyRosiEl · 13/11/2018 13:58

Hi Stardanced,

That's odd that they are behind the rest of the country but on the plus side it does sound like they are taking the full picture into account. I hope you're feeling ok as it's so stressful waiting but it does sound hopeful that it's nothing sinister.

xx

Hi Thingywhatsit,

Poor you with the bruising! it's good that it's finally healing!

Fingers crossed for celebratory glasses of wine on Saturday but at least you have something fun to look forward to either way.

I hope that you get the results through tomorrow or Thursday as you've had such a long wait!

xx

I'm looking into private screening options as I still have symptoms of breast edema, inflammation etc. and alongside the ultrasound results of inflammation/thickening and possible lymphadenopathy are causing me too much anxiety! I am only 30 and might just be panicking as I imagine BC is quite rare at my age but just need to be sure about it!

Cambalamb · 13/11/2018 15:55

I agree Emily that even though they are saying's benign inflammation, you haven't had an explanation as to what has caused it or if it is temporary, what to do if it continues etc. You should be able to get all that without incurring cost. What does your GP say?

Thingy, I'm sure you would have been called in by now if anything sinister was found. my friend was phoned back the day after her mammo when it wasn't good news.

EmilyRosiEl · 13/11/2018 18:56

Thanks Cambalamb, my GP still hasn't received the letter from the breast clinic so I don't think he can advise at the moment.

I'm looking to options for a private appointment because I don't want the NHS/my GP to think that I'm a hypochondriac/difficult patient. I hadn't been to the GP for four years before my visit three weeks ago!

Thingywhatsit · 14/11/2018 12:34

Will your gp contact you when they get the letter Emily? Did you contact the breast clinic too?

A bit on tenderhooks today - knowing that they might ring me with an appointment so I can get my results. Am hoping they will call today. Then will have to sort out more time off work .......

EmilyRosiEl · 14/11/2018 14:26

I hope you hear soon Thingywhatsit and that it's good news- it sounds so stressful to be waiting. Sending a hug!

My GP won't phone me as the clinic concluded that it was benign but I'm going to ask for a copy of the letter and just consider whether to request a second opinion. I think I would feel more confident if I had seen a consultant rather than a specialist nurse, also if the sonographer had scanned the right area and they'd given me some sort of explanation for the inflammation, thickening and lymphadenitis!

Thingywhatsit · 14/11/2018 18:40

Had a call an hour ago from the hospital. It’s a Fibroadenoma 😄

I’m in the clear 😄😄😄😄😄😄

Cambalamb · 14/11/2018 18:42

Of course it is!!!! Cheers!!!

EmilyRosiEl · 14/11/2018 20:01

Yay!!! that's amazing Thingywhatsit! massive relief! so Saturday night = celebratory drinks! xxx

Thingywhatsit · 14/11/2018 20:55

Yep it’s party time for me!!!! Thank you all for keeping me company on what has been a rather long waiting game!

Hoping everyone else still waiting gets good news too

Fluffysunshinepants · 15/11/2018 19:44

Well the wait continues for me, not a cyst, so have undergone 3 core biopsies and a collection of cells. Now awaiting results which should come through by the end of the month.

The staff were fantastic.

Great news Thingywhatits x

EmilyRosiEl · 15/11/2018 20:09

Aw I'm sorry to hear that Fluffysunshinepants- that sounds very stressful! It's so good that the staff were nice and that they are being thorough. Did the biopsies hurt or were they ok? Sending a hug! I hope the results don't take too long to come through. Also I'm really sorry for forgetting that your appointment was today xx

My GP practice still don't have my clinic report so I'm going to phone the hospital tomorrow as it's been over 8 days and ask them to fax the report. I've found a private breast surgeon whom I could see but I'd need to ask family to fund me so I'm hoping that I don't need to see her.

Fluffysunshinepants · 15/11/2018 21:16

Although you have a local anesthetic it's like a sharp, stinging sensation. The sound is like a stapler being used. Then the nurse applies pressure to stop the bleeding and bruising. Just feel tender and sore now.

Next appointment is the end of November, so another wait.

Hopefully your results will be through soon but until then try not to worry

Custardee · 15/11/2018 22:04

Hi, I'm late to this thread but I wanted to say how much reading through the thread has helped me, good to read that all the thoughts and worries I've had in last few days are what other people have - that I'm not over-worrying, that it's quite normal! Saw GP on Tuesday and waiting for an appointment for one-stop clinic, apparently (and hopefully) within 2 weeks. So pleased for the good test results folk have had x

EmilyRosiEl · 16/11/2018 01:00

Oh no Fluffy, that sounds horrible. I hope the biopsy sites heal quickly.

Sorry you have to wait for the results. I hope you're okay!

Welcome to the group Custardee! It's definitely normal to feel a bit worried but it's great that your GP has made a two-week referral so you'll be seen really quickly. Pop on to this thread whenever you're feeling anxious/unsure over the next week!

StarDanced · 11/12/2018 21:56

Hi all. Just an update. I have had my ultrasound scans and there is no issue at all so I have the all clear. They think it was just hormonal and potentially a blocked milk duct post breastfeeding. I am very relieved
