Thanks, @DuncinToffee
I will be checking in regularly. Any reason why this thread isn't in Talk > Sports like the other football threads?

DuncinToffee · 17/07/2023 20:50

I just used the same board as the rolling football thread is in

BellaAmorosa · 17/07/2023 20:55

Would you consider moving it? You've put the work in and the thread deserves to get more traffic. My reasoning is that people won't happen upon it on the Euros board because the Euros was last year but if they're on the sports board, they will see it.

DuncinToffee · 17/07/2023 20:57

Yes, I'll do that. It looks out of place here Smile

Thanks @DuncinToffee
Flags and wall chart at the ready.

BellaAmorosa · 17/07/2023 21:30

I love a wall chart, even though I invariably forget to fill it in after the first round of results!

AndNobbyDancing · 17/07/2023 21:35

Waves

Really looking forward to it, sadly working some strange shifts but will do my best to watch them, some will have to be on the radio.

LegendsBeyond · 17/07/2023 21:38

I’ll be watching

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 17/07/2023 21:40

From a getting children engaged in women’s football, it’s a shame it falls in the summer holidays. I work in a school, and for the men’s World Cup we had a big wall chart, an in class sweepstakes, a whole school sweepstakes with a trip for the winning class, a big homework project. This time it’s all in the holidays so we’re not doing anything.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 17/07/2023 21:43

Really looking forward to it. As someone (maybe Matt Forde?) remarked on twitter earlier it's like Japan 2002 all over again- time for a whole new generation to start drinking at 7am 🤣😂 Due to not being at the end of my 2 year grad prog I will be sticking to coffee & bacon butties this time round!

BellaAmorosa · 17/07/2023 22:24

I might manage the England 8ams, maybe a 6:30am start if a matchup looks particularly tasty, but mostly I will be watching the recordings in the late afternoon and evening.

DuncinToffee · 19/07/2023 16:00

Tomorrow's games

20 July, 08:00: New Zealand v Norway - BBC
20 July, 11:00: Australia v Republic of Ireland - ITV

Has anyone else heard about the Zambian squad having up to 4 players, including Barbra Banda, who failed gender (ie sex) eligibility tests last year at the WAFCON, but who are allowed to play in the WC by FIFA because national Federations can carry out their own checks. So surprise, surprise, the Zambian football authority decided everything was fine. Not on, in my book, and it could overshadow the whole tournament.

DuncinToffee · 19/07/2023 21:07

I hadn't heard anything about this so did a quick search and no I am not happy with this.

Zambia is in group C with Japan, Spain and Costa Rica

coastergirl · 19/07/2023 23:18

I'm really excited for the tournament. Can't wait for it to get started tomorrow. I'll be watching as many matches as possible.

GreenCereal · 19/07/2023 23:43

I'm in Wellington, and we've got tickets for Costa Rica v Spain, NZ v Philippines, and USA v Netherlands. Very excited! Although of course after a very mild start to our winter, it looks like it's going to pour down for the whole tournament.

DuncinToffee · 20/07/2023 08:24

Little bit late but now settling in with a coffee ☕

I've taken the day off today - I am a freelancer who works from home, so...
I will be starting with the preview show, then watching the day's two matches - all on record.
Will be back here later to see the comments.

DuncinToffee · 20/07/2023 09:52

VAR, referee's decision annouunced over speakers, penalty missed and then 9 minutes extra time Grin
