The Shards by Bret Easton Ellis. I'll probably agree with every criticism you have of it but putting those aside, it's brilliant.

Agreed!

My people.

I'd say Fifty Fifty. It got mixed reviews at the time, but I thought it was a really good read.
Also The Silent Companion which had a chilling rwist.

I'm pretty useless at guessing twists which is actually great as I never see them coming. However, the thread is on dodgy ground because as pp's have said once you know about or are aware of a twist, you're looking for it even subconsciously. I think you're much more likely to guess the twist then.

I don't know if it's been said yet but don't ask for recommendations for books with unexpected twists!! Then they won't be unexpected anymore and half the enjoyment will be ruined...

Ahahaha of course it's been said, multiple times, and directly above me too!

Hide this thread @TangoShoes and never look at it again! Grin Smile

*We are all completely besides ourselves.....

The best book and I've passed it on to so many people*

This book was awful. I gave up about three quarters of the way through.

Welcome to cooper is quite gory but has a good twist, everything sort of slots into place at one point which I liked a lot.

Going to try Fingersmith, sounds good!

I've just used this month's Audible credit on Fingersmith on the back of this thread so I hope it is worth it!

Also just noticed your username! @TangoShoes Am I tangled up with you and I just don't know it??

stayathomer · 03/03/2023 17:39

Was it really revealing a twist just by saying is that the one about … ?! And to the person reporting for that? Bit extreme isn’t it? All very dramatic!!!!

ohyouknowwhatshername · 03/03/2023 17:42

Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult

DumpedinKilburn · 03/03/2023 17:57

I've just finished the latest Louise Candlish, The Only Suspect and there are a few twists in that-some can be seen coming but the final ones confused me and I had to read those chapters again.

AnonymousHippopotamus · 03/03/2023 22:25

Big Brother by Lionel Shriver.

I let you go - Claire Mackintosh. First book in a long time where I didn't see the twist coming!
