The Burning Air by Erin Kelly. I'm good at spotting twists, but this one made me gasp aloud!

Fingersmith. I absolutely didn't see the first twist coming. Great book.

Unless of course you've read Wilkie Collins. Sarah Waters is quite open about being inspired by him and I do love Fingersmith. But read The Woman in White first. More twists and turns than a twisty turny thing.

I came on to say Fingersmith too!

The House On Needless Street

I'm sorry, but this a) had a 'twist' I saw in a iou chapter 3 and b) was one of the most repugnant books I've ever read. Hate would be too slight a word for what I felt. (I could say a lot more but it would definitely ruin it for anyone who does want to read it!)

largeprintagathachristie · 11/02/2023 21:05

Yep, Fingersmith.
My partner read it recently and I was dying for him to get to the twist before I blabbed and told him.

snowlady4 · 11/02/2023 21:06

I haven't actually read the book, just watchedvtge televised version; but Stay Close, by Harlem Corben. Excellent.

EarringsandLipstick · 11/02/2023 21:11

I liked 'The Illustrated Child' by Polly Crosby. It hasn't 'twists' as such but does keep the reader guessing with changing perspectives.

We are all completely besides ourselves.....

The best book and I've passed it on to so many people

Daphne du Maurier's

My cousin Rachael.

Unreliable narrator.

Thearex · 11/02/2023 21:15

The lost man by Jane Harper.

Not totally obvious and one of my faves.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/02/2023 21:17

If you haven't read Agatha Christie's The Murder of Roger Ackroyd then you're in for a treat....

backatchababy · 11/02/2023 21:23

@tealgate I HATED that book honestly I nearly chucked it across the room when I realised.

Is that the one with the chimp? I'd so it was ridiculous 🙄

The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock
One September evening in 1785, the merchant Jonah Hancock finds one of his captains waiting eagerly on his doorstep. He has sold Jonah’s ship for what appears to be a mermaid.

Amandasummers · 11/02/2023 21:43

Following for some inspiration! There is nothing worse than being let down at the end of the book and it happens SO often!!!

whirlyhead · 11/02/2023 21:45

We need to talk about Kevin. That book totally threw me for six when I read it.

Local Woman Missing. I swear it gave me heart palpitations.
