2013 WW thread #4 - Crunchies' Challenge

Here we are, new shiny thread to use for the Crunchies Challenge. Starting 1 September and running to Christmas Eve. Let's compare notes, support each other and restore the camaraderie we had earlier in the year when the weight was falling off us.

I haven't done a spreadsheet as success is personal and I'm on my iPad and it's way too complicated. The link to the old spreadsheet with the points for the Hairy Dieters (HD) book is on thread #3. I bought the new HD book last week and will attempt to point it when I get chance.

Good luck and here's to looking slim and slinky this Christmas Smile

Hi, it says when you first login to the app you can change weigh in day, not sure how though, maybe in settings? Or you may have to log in on computer. It was through quidco app, last Thursday.

Yes unlimited fruit is really good, at least you know you shouldn't really be starving, even if no points left! Smile

1lb off this week. MrsW my goal and start weight is about the same as yours, I'm 21lbs in so it does happen gradually but seems like such a long way to go, also enjoying the extra bf points!

I still reach for biscuits and chocolate when I'm stressed so really need to get that in hand for when my points drop down in a couple of months

Wow well done petal

I want to lose two stone of baby weight maybe an extra half a stone for my wedding in June. I have a wedding to go to at the end of November and hoping to have shifted a fair bit of weight by then

Thanks beautician My DD is 4 months old too, you've definitely got time to get stuck in before November, I'm hoping to have another stone off by the end of the year Smile

Joined today and my start weight is 11st 7lb Sad

Is all fruit really 0 points and do you find you still lose if you fill up on it?

Hi beautician. Do be careful with fruit - only eat enough to satisfy you. I don't think you would lose weight if you gorged on fruit. Does that make sense?

Just got ready to go to the shop and buy some junk food after a mental week. Ended up reining myself in and had a cup of tea instead. Very pleased with myself (and a bit disappointed to not have any minstrels too!)

Have we all had positive weeks? I've had a couple of slips.

Hi all, I'd like to join you if that's okay. I started WW in April last year (nearly tipping my scales at 18st 13lbs) and lost 3 stone, but a bit crept back on. I'm now 16st 4lbs. I've lost 3 1/2 lbs the last two weeks of going back to the meetings. I've just pulled the Hairy Dieters book off the shelf and put the pp next to each recipe, so thanks for that.

Hi all. I had a wedding at the weekend and meals out at relatives, have had quite a bad week diet wise!! I find it so hard to reign it in after a few bad days!! One biscuit turns in to 5! Going to gym this evening to try and undo some of the damage and will start afresh tomorrow!

Hello, you're all doing so well without me. I have lost the plot.

I started on 1 January this year and by June had lost 19lbs. Was very happy with that, a good dress size and a slow and steady loss. Since then I've been faffing about and gained 5lbs of that despite all the running, walking and other sport I've been doing. I ran a half marathon on 24 August and another on 15 September. I also play a team sport to a reasonably high level (regional league).

Have the last of my 3 half marathons Sunday week (13th) but can't get motivated to train. Am hoping that the muscle memory from the last two will get me through. But foodwise I just can't seem to get back on the wagon.

I start the day with the best intentions then it goes awry after tea. Sweet stuff is my downfall and fruit just doesn't cut it. Have contemplated changing to SW (too restrictive), 5:2 (doesn't fit in with family life or My Fitness Pal (can't be arsed with all that counting) but have decided to stay with WW. If I had more time I'd go to a class but time is something I don't have (I work full time as well as running, sport training, umpiring for said sport, 5 year old DS etc).

Anyone got any wise words? The more cliched the better please as I need something to kick me back into action. I liked being 19lbs lighter. My tummy was flatter, my boobs were more pert, my legs were less wobbly and my clothes fit. Now I just feel bleugh and meh.

I'm proud of the stone I have lost but man I need to get back into gear.

No wise words dear Crunchie but holding your hand. I too am struggling. Went back to WW last Friday and had gained 3lbs in four weeks which isn't bad considering all the crap I've been eating. Was determined to do well this week but after several meals out and lots of chocolate have failed miserably.

I'm really quite cross with myself I was so strong and focused losing the original 3 stones but maintaining is so difficult and I've lost the plot too. Even my daughter noticed I had put quite a bit of weight back on and my size 12s once loose are very tight now. Crunchie line for both of us i think. I'll really try again tomorrow. I really do feel your pain Crunchie. xx

It's very hard. I feel like I start afresh every day but I can't keep at it. It's so hard because we all know what to do, Eat less exercise more, but it's so hard! I have sky plused some episodes of obese one year to save my life I find them quite good, quite inspiring!! Exercise is a big one but seems you do a lot of that already Crunchie? When do you think is your weak moments? I am also very sweet toothed, didn't use to be!! I find I get distracted from snacking if i drink lots of water and this stops snacking. How about trying a few different recipes, shake things up a bit? Treat yourself to a couple of fitness or diet mags for some inspiration? I used to subscribe to zest, was quite good (just got bit repetitive!)

_

For you and me Paws. I weighed this morning and changed my weigh in day to today. Counting again. I had actually dropped 3lbs in the last ten days or so so am now 3lbs from my lowest weight. This has morivated me somewhat so I'm going to try my best.

I'm with you Paws Smile

Hello crunchie et al. I've been away for a while - had a lovely two weeks hols in August - and just didn't really come back to mumsnet as life has been so busy.
Since Jan i have lost 2 stone 5lbs. The last 5lbs has come off incredibly slowly with lots of "staying the same" and even a +2lb one week (which i couldn't really explain).
I've just started (Monday) shredding again. Having to be reasonably careful exercise-wise whilst the docs are figuring out my dizzy spells but i need to exercise if i'm going to loose much more.
I have a very comfy pair of Next work trousers (ie tailored) size 14 - which i am so excited about (who'd have thought that my backside would EVER fit in size 14 trousers!!) Not yet bought my size 14 jeans - mainly because i love my size 16 ones and they've not had that much wear (although are now rather loose).

Haven't caught up on thread #3 or even read this thread properly. But wanted to shout out that i'm still here, muddling along slowly.

Crunchie, what i have read on this thread - i see you've been doing your half marathons - fantastic! Re the weightloss - OK cliche time - you have done FANTASTICALLY well - give yourself a break! Sounds like you need to not track or think of WW for a week (and steer clear of the scales). Then, once rested (from WW), re-attack! Track it all honestly and totally - have some targets (suggest item of clothing). You CAN do it because you've done it before. Could be you're eating "the wrong thing", retaining water, portion sizes creeping up. It is depressing and infuriating when you think you're doing OK but the weight doesn't go down (or even goes up). I feel at that point you need to stop. Break (for a short time). Start again like you were starting from the beginning.

OK really badly worded paragraph with lots of repetition - hope you get what i'm trying to clumsily say!

Come on everyone (gets out pom poms) You can do it :)

Crunchies well done (and everyone else) I've not been very good this week (the odd chocolate biscuit etc) and I've lost the most I have for ages (nearly 2lb) I just don't get it! I was going to start the shred on Monday but I've the start of a nasty cold, so instead I'm fighting the urge to comfort eat lots of carbs.

Flatmouse - yes and HD2 is yum! Really recommend it.

Hi Everyone. I'm new to Mumsnet, only joined an hour ago! Can I join your thread? I'm not in the same boat as most of you - I got to goal 5 years ago and have managed to stay there ever since. I still go to WW every week because the leader asked if I would help her with weighing - I don't get paid, I'm a volunteer. But if my experience can help anybody get to goal and stay there, I'd be so pleased. I'm 58, 5ft 6in and 9st 11lb (start weight of 11st 9lb).

Welcome Earlybird you'll be a great asset here.

Sooo weigh in tonight and I gained another 2 lbs, that's a total of 5lbs gain in just two weeks. I am still at goal JUST (but I had a very high end goal). NOW the hard work starts again, it's a wake up call. Everyone who gained last week managed to lose this week except me. My clothes are tight and uncomfortable, Christmas is galloping every closer and I really do have to get back into it this week. I am ashamed of myself, all that hard work to lose weight in the first place and now I feel it slipping away from me. Are you still with me Crunchie I need you? I need to be posting something positive next Friday.

Hi everyone,

I went slightly awry this week, didn't track which is definitely my undoing.

I'm back on track today though and going to do some cooking. I'm going to do HD Chicken Provencal and HD sausages in rich gravy to stock up the freezer a bit and stop myself from straying.

Crunchie you sound like you're being way too hard on yourself. Keep going!

Poorpaws have you tried cutting down on carbs? I did it last summer and it really helped me. I had porridge for breakfast, meat/fish and veg/salad for lunch and dinner. Was never hungry and lost 6lb in two weeks. Might be worth a go?

Hi all, can I join please? Have been doing WW Online for three months and lost a stone of baby weight so I'm now 10st 2lbs - feeling really happy with this but have a way to go yet!

My downfall is cheese... And lunch. Might have a look at the Hairy Bakers diet books :)
