2013 WW thread #4 - Crunchies' Challenge

Here we are, new shiny thread to use for the Crunchies Challenge. Starting 1 September and running to Christmas Eve. Let's compare notes, support each other and restore the camaraderie we had earlier in the year when the weight was falling off us.

I haven't done a spreadsheet as success is personal and I'm on my iPad and it's way too complicated. The link to the old spreadsheet with the points for the Hairy Dieters (HD) book is on thread #3. I bought the new HD book last week and will attempt to point it when I get chance.

Good luck and here's to looking slim and slinky this Christmas Smile

Just been for a 3 miles lunchtime run

On the negative side

  • after long weekend with family visiting, pointing has gone out the window and have been eating and drinking far too much
  • on my weigh in last Friday had gained a pound

On the plus side
  • had lovely weekend with family visiting
  • just been for 7 mile run which is officially the longest run since I had my DC Grin

So, Crunchie line drawn and have decided to start pointing again on Friday after my next weigh in. My goal is to lose 7 to 10 lbs before Xmas.

Well two days in Crunchie and I'm doing well. Had a day out by the sea today with daughter and granddaughter but instead of eating out we took a picnic so I could easily point everything and was less tempted. Daughter is trying to lose some of her baby weight, although she isn't fat, so it is good to do some healthy eating together. Very nearly gave in to an ice cream because it was so hot but resisted (polishing my halo too). We also walked a long way around the shops and up and down the sea front so all in all a good healthy day and all I spent was £4 parking and £40 for a pair of very reduced price sandals

Hope everyone is doing well.

Well done Paws and great work on the run Chaos!

I'm still doing ok. We had HD chicken cordon bleu last night - it was really nice. Highly recommend their second book.

WW chicken in mushroom sauce tonight. Hopefully that'll be as nice Grin

Today is my weigh in and I've only lost half a pound this week. I knew it wouldn't be great - we were away with friends and I drink wine etc and wasn't as active as I might have been, but I am pretty easily demoralised, which then makes motivation so much harder. I need a kick up the bum for this week. It's also pretty stressful as we are buying/selling a house and its quite busy and work, so really want to comfort way lots of carbs! Gave in to a chocolate biscuit at work today so I'm going to make myself do some exercise tonight Hmm

Half a pound is a pack of butter. And it all counts.

Hi, joining you please. I lost four stone on WW in 2007 - I know it's changed since then - and got down to 8 stone 10. Since I gave up smoking 18 months ago, I've slowly put a stone back on, 3lbs of which has been during this summer holiday! So, I need to get a grip and get back in control of my eating, as I've always managed to maintain with no problem, until this last year. Terrified of piling on the whole four stone again! Target weight is 9 stone 2, so only have half a stone to lose or so, but I know how hard it is to shift the last few pounds, so really need to do WW properly. Interesting that I'm on 26 points too, the same as someone a couple of stone heavier than me. At what point does the point allowance increase? I think I need to not use my extra's if this is going to work.

Quinn welcome. There are many people with more expertise than I have but I would say definitely use your weekly ppts or you become bored and will binge (well I do). You can definitely still lose weight by using all your ppts allowance (daily and weekly) plus fruit and veg.

Well Crunchie I got myself into a real pickle today. Through unforeseen circumstances and not really my fault, I found myself in Asda at 6.00 this evening and in Sainsbury at after 7.00pm. I hadn't eaten since lunch at about 12.45 so was absolutely starving and to make matters worse I was in the chocolate aisle getting Kit-Kats, Smarties and Twirls for daughter (well not for her to eat exactly but that's another story). Anyway it was really difficult and this is when I always cave in and buy loads of chocolate and eat it so quickly it is quite disgusting. But tonight I didn't. I was very hungry but concentrated on my shopping list and waited until I got into the car (by now it was after 8pm) and had ....... an apple. Woohoo, I think that's the first time I've ever done that and I feel really pleased with myself.

I also bought some WW oat and wheat crackers (4 individually wrapped crackers for 2ppts) and had them tonight with the lightest Philadelphia. It made a lovely late evening snack (when I eat the most) with a glass of Lilt Zero. It could become my snack of choice in future.

Still no chocolate consumed yet (halo shining again).

Good luck for good loses to all.

I know it says you can have unlimited fruit and veg, but is it really unlimited? I buy a pound of grapes every day to have on my desk, and nibble them throughout the day. I also always have a container of home made soup made from free veg in the fridge to heat as and when.
Is this why my weight loss is slow/ non exsistent? I am on 41 points a day, but rarely use them all. I never dip into the weekly allowance, as I don't really need it at the moment.

Paws that's brilliant I'm very very proud of you. Well done. It's so hard to go anywhere when you're hungry so to choose an apple, I'm impressed.

My lunches this week have been sainsbury's highland oatcakes with a small pot of lightest Philly. They were on offer in Sainsbury's this week on Bogof so worked out cheaper than a tub. The oatcakes are 9pp for 6 plus 1pp for the cheese. That sounds quite a lot but that's lunch done when I add some fruit and keeps me full. So works for me. Nairns are less pp but not as dense (iykwim).

We had WW chicken in mushroom sauce last night. Was like a stroganoff and very nice.

Had a sneaky weigh in this morning and they're going in the right direction which is good.

The fruit thing isn't truly unlimited, it's until you're full. If it was me, I wouldn't graze I'd have breakfast, then a handful of grapes mid morning, then lunch, then a handful in the afternoon. You need to step away from mindless eating as you won't know if you're eating because you're hungry or because they're there. It's about retraining your body to recognise hunger and not habit or boredom. That's what I think anyway Grin

Hi, I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I've been going to WW for 6 weeks now and lost 7lbs - want to lose 10 more lbs by Christmas/My Birthday and overall need to lose another 30lbs, to get to my best and absolute prime!

Is it ok if I join - need a little bit of hand holding and encouragement every now and then, if that's ok?

Have been quite good with my points (30) and tend to only go into my weekly allowance at the weekends. Also been doing lots of exercise, so that's been helping too :)

Hi Blondie, pull up a chair and make yourself comfy. Paws has given up chocolate so there's none around but there's always wine

Hi everyone, seems like you're all having a really positive week.

I've had a mad few days at work and have not been as good as I should have. Didn't even manage to point yesterday and I'm very annoyed with myself.

I made another HB dish last night - they really are delicious. Don't feel like I'm on a diet when I'm eating them!

Blondie I know what you mean about the hand holding! It helps knowing other people are feeling the same.

Hi

I'd like to join your challenge please. Originally lost 8 stone since June 2011, got to goal weight December 2012 and now it's crept back on and I have gained 3 of the 8 stone. Am so annoyed at myself! Anyhow I am going to take the bull by the horns and start a ww class next Wednesday. I originally lost by very low fat and 1200 cals a day but can't get back into it at all. The HD spreadsheet is great, love that cook book. Will join when I've officially weighed in on Wednesday. Thanks.

Yesterday was WI but as I feared my weight loss had ground to a halt. Only to be expected I suppose after losing 2lbs a week since 10th January.

Woohoo Crunchies - fantastic news.

I lost 1lb this week - not excellent but a step in the right direction and I haven't been angelic this week so it is completely fair.

I am 4lb lighter than two weeks ago which still makes me do this Grin

We cooked the chicken cordon blue this week from the second book and it was lovely. Had it with salad so a reasonably low point tea.

Thanks for your congrats. Off to Hyde Park concert tomorrow so have to try and limit my cider intake!

Congratulations loosing 4lbs, Crunchie. My main goal is to reach a healthy BMI which is only another 6lbs. Ideally though I would like to get down another 6lbs to less than 10st or a BMI of 23 because I have mobility problems and I'm more comfortable carrying less weight. I've just been doing WW online only and I think I might join a class to keep me motivated now it's going to get more difficult.

The HD's Chicken Piri Piri recipe looks good. I already make Cajun or Jerk Chicken and Chicken Fajita using Bart seasoning which is very quick and easy to use when you are in a hurry. I'm going to try the Piri Piri tonight.
