2013 WW thread #4 - Crunchies' Challenge

Here we are, new shiny thread to use for the Crunchies Challenge. Starting 1 September and running to Christmas Eve. Let's compare notes, support each other and restore the camaraderie we had earlier in the year when the weight was falling off us.

I haven't done a spreadsheet as success is personal and I'm on my iPad and it's way too complicated. The link to the old spreadsheet with the points for the Hairy Dieters (HD) book is on thread #3. I bought the new HD book last week and will attempt to point it when I get chance.

Good luck and here's to looking slim and slinky this Christmas Smile

Paws I'm here. I check in every day. Smile
Got to do a 12m run tomorrow (eek) but knee is sore after today's match so may cut it short.

I was reading another thread about motivation to exercise and have decided to change what I do after next week's half marathon. Am going to replace two weekly runs with two swimming sessions and add a Body Balance class. I need to tone up and get stronger not keep banging away at the cardio. Might shock me into dropping some lbs too Wink

Poorpaws, were you expecting to gain weight at the weigh in or was it a nasty surprise? It is very easy to lower your guard once you have got to goal and before you know it, you are eating the way you used to and the weight creeps back. But WW isn't a diet, it is a permanent change to eating healthily.
You are very hard on yourself, but hey, stop that right now. All is not lost and you CAN turn this round by your next weigh in. If you have a bad day, don't think that everything is ruined for the whole week and give in to everything. There are 6 other days in that same week where things can go right and can more than compensate for that bad day.
Fresh start tomorrow morning, leave the scales out on the worktop, weigh and point everything. If you have time, read through your handbook as if you were starting WW for the first time - it's amazing how much we forget. Do you use the green tracker? If you do and have kept them, find one where you achieved a good weight loss and maybe eat those meals again this week.

It is only Saturday so if you stick at it, you can easily loose a pound or 2 by Friday. Come on girl, you can do this!

Hi scnockles. Well done losing a stone. Yes hd book is good! I also love cheese. Usually get pilgrims lighter or whatever other lighter ones tesco have on offer! Lunch is a funny one, I work three days so on those days I find if I take my own lunch in I end up starving later and eat rubbish! Subway has filled me up more. Also try and go a walk at lunchtime too (if I'm at work). How about soups? I need to pick up some screw top Tupperware that I can transport soup in from home.

Hi everyone thanks for your support. I had all I needed in the way of getting back on track yesterday. I was going out for a casual lunch with my daughter so put my favourite jeans on. Oh my goodness they didn't meet by about four inches. I was so shocked because last time I wore them they had been quite loose. I've been wearing skirts all summer and find them far more forgiving than trousers. So I am back on track. I think my problem is that since my daughter had her baby we lunch out very often. If I'm at home I can say no but when I'm out its difficult.

I felt a bit cross at the Beefeater on Saturday, I had chicken and bacon salad and asked for the dressing on the side (so that I could pour just a little on). It came covered in dressing and with a huge sauce boat full on the side (of course I left this). I resisted dessert too.
Tomorrow we will be in Exeter at Nandos, which I absolutely love. Last week when we were there I gave in to chips and their fabulous carrot cake. This week I will have the chicken breast in a bun with salad.

Sorry this post is a bit me, me, me but I wanted to post positively this time. I think I just got bored with WW, sick and tired of tracking after two years and needed a rest. Now I've had one there is no excuse and I want to be back to a reasonable weight by Christmas.

April ~ very strange that you mention carbs, I've been told by a WW leader who is also trained separately in nutrition that I don't eat enough carbs and that is why I am always hungry.

Crunchie you are doing great and a special thank you for your support.

Paws Pause for Thought ~ if you had a bunch of flowers in a vase and one died, would you throw the whole bunch away? No. So if you have a bad day think of those flowers and don't throw the whole week away, just disgard the one day you didn't do so well, draw a Crunchie line under it and continue to have a brilliant week.

Practice what you preach Paws Smile

I went to Goose Fair and only ate the banana I brought and water. Very pleased with myself!

I didn't go for my run yesterday as my knee was sore so didn't want to chance it. But.....I went swimming in my lunch hour today and managed 20 lengths of a 33m pool in 25 minutes. Considering I haven't been swimming in yonks i was really pleased and I was puffing well.

Just tracked it though and I only get 2 pp. Pfff. Never mind. I am over my points today but at least I have tracked it all. I bought Sainsbury's own oatcakes and they are 9pp for 6 (!!). Nairns are less than that. But I've paid for them so I'm going to flippin well eat them!

I'm going to do some strength and conditioning in the gym tomorrow, short run plus netball training Wednesday then feet up Thursday and Friday, netball match Saturday then half marathon Sunday. Then I am DONE with running until after Christmas. Need to rest and heal all my niggles. Smile

Hi everyone.

Well done paws for getting back on track. I don't think any one could ever accuse me of not eating enough carbs!

I lost 3lb this week, but I stayed the same last week. Brings me up to 11lb total which I'm pleased with.

Bit of advice needed though - I feel a bit like I have some naughty-ish days and then try and compensate by being extra extra good on a few days. I'm usually within my points/weeklies and if I'm over only by a couple. I'm losing weight, so it isn't a massive problem, but it feels unhealthy. Any advice or am I making a problem where there isn't one?!

Thanks guys. Hope you're all having lovely weekends (despite the hideous weather!)

Our leader says we can't carry forward deficits and surpluses over to another day but it is very tempting to do that and it was allowed on the old points system before pro points was introduced. They don't say why that was changed but I suspect it's because if someone cuts back too much on some days, it then becomes hard to do and unsustainable and then you are more likely to give up altogether. If you have a bad day, just draw a line under it. Accept you had too many points but it's in the past and you can't change that. Move on and make a fresh start the very next day. This sort of thing happens all the time - it's life. But one bad day doesn't have to turn into a bad week, and it doesn't mean you can't still achieve a weight loss that week.

Big excitement this week - i crossed my 2.5 stone barrier (OK - only by a few ounces, but still!!) Also have gone and bought a straight fitted skirt - size 14 !!! WHOOP who'd have EVER thought it (along with my new size 12 tops). Gosh!!
New HD book arrived (Yep, i did order it AS SOON as i read it on here) - looks like some great recipes but haven't had a chance to try yet as keep getting ill. (Although that has probably helped with WI - not through lack of eating but lack of using my winelies!).
Crunchies definitely shake it up a bit with other forms of exercise (although in awe of your running) - well done!

Hi everyone

May I join your group please? Had my first DS 7 weeks ago and after putting on around 3st during pregnancy I am keen to get rid of the baby weight. I have about a stone to lose. I joined WW online today (and plan to start with a vengeance on Monday). Have done it before and lost around half a stone so hoping it will work post baby. It looks like you are all having success.

Does anyone have any tips re exercise? I was a keen runner before pregnancy and ran 3-4 times per week. Due to DH's long hours the only time I could run now we have our DS is at the weekends. Have been out walking with the pram/sling as much as possible but not convinced this will be enough for me as the weeks go by. I miss my running! I have a few of Davina's DVDs but my abs are still split a bit from pregnancy so not sure this would be a great idea just yet...

Am excited by the rave reviews of the HD books on here so might have to get on amazon this evening...

Hello and welcome InternationalMuslinMountain. Keeping on the move even if it's just walking is as good as more intense exercise. For physical reasons my exercise has been limited but I found less intense exercise can distract me from eating when I don't need to and actually seems to depress my appetite.

Having said that I've gone to the gym almost everyday for a number of years fighting to increase my mobility and over the last week I've managed without crutches except for a group walk. The less I weigh the easier it is.

Haven't posted for a while because my weight loss has slowed down and I needed distracting. Thinking about weight and food is counter productive sometimes.

The last month has been a real struggle sticking to 26 ppts and I slipped off the wagon a couple of times. Looking back I was trying out new recipes and perhaps I wasn't eating enough protein so I was hungry and eating more of other things. The HD biscotti was a big mistake!

Anyway I've finally joined a class, increased the protein, started making soups and eating more fruit and I've managed to lose another 3.5lbs.
Just another 3lbs and I will have lost a total of 150lbs and reached goal.

Feeling absolutely disgusted with myself.

I've had a horrible horrible week and cracked tonight. Just ate a large bag of doritos and dip.

Feel weak and pathetic.
