Petite support thread... continued

BogRollBOGOF · 20/10/2025 21:07

All petites are welcome on this thread, but it seemed like it would be particularly helpful to have a corner of Mumsnet for those of us who are petite/small framed and officially a 'healthy weight' but know we feel/look better a few pounds lighter (which would still be within a healthy weight/not underweight).

Maybe we can share goals, progress, struggles, things that are working, etc.? It would also be lovely to hear from any petites who are at a 'happy weight' and what you are doing to be successful.

Feel free to share as much or little as you like. Height, current weight, goal weight or other body measurements, nutrition, calories, exercise, NSV, etc.

@saywhatdidhesay excellent achievement, well done, you must be so pleased, and motivated.

CortieTat · 04/12/2025 08:27

@saywhatdidhesay congratulations! That’s a great achievement 💪

I have nothing to report, my weight is stable although it is under 50 kilos quite often, which is not great. I survived my first julbord yesterday at a mother & baby group. I focused on raising the levels of gravad and smoked salmon in my body as we rarely buy them nowadays (both went up over 100% in price within the last two years) so it was quality over quantity.

SlimGin · 04/12/2025 11:51

I weighed myself this morning and have lost 1lb since last week, but my overall rate of weight loss is 0.5lb a week which is ideal for breastfeeding and where I want to stay.
My weight fluctuates so much it’s really hard to tell if I’m on the right track. I used to weigh myself daily and I found that helpful to see how much my body fluctuates across the week, but it’s far too cold to do that now!

Iloveleaveinconditioner · 05/12/2025 10:47

@saywhatdidhesay, well done, that’s a massive achievement! So nice to see the scales properly move isn’t it!

Well, I had a BAD weekend last weekend as thought, with a lot of alcohol and 2 meals out. This week Mon-Thurs I fasted for 20 hours and stuck to 1300 cals a day and finally plucked up the courage to weigh myself this morning….delighted to say I’m now 55.1kgs. So I started at 60kgs in August, I knew I’d put on weight over the last year, my usual weight is 55kgs, but was really dismayed to find I’d put on nearly a stone! It’s the heaviest I’ve been in my adult life (aside from pregnancy)

I said in August, if I could get back down to 55kgs, I’d be happy and I’m pretty much there now ☺️ however, I’m going to aim for 54kgs now and then at least if I put on a few lbs, I’ll only be back at my goal weight.

I feel like it’s been a long slog to be fair, but I’m really proud of myself as it’s the most weight I’ve ever managed (or needed) to lose!

Now to get to 54kgs!

saywhatdidhesay · 05/12/2025 10:54

It’s much harder when we don’t have the height!

SlimGin · 05/12/2025 18:57

It’s so frustrating to be a shortie and having no wiggle room for a few treats!

I also find this time of year sooo hard as there’s food and drink everywhere, and a reason to indulge. Although it’s also the busiest time of the year and I keep finding myself running out of time to eat before the next errand, so I make myself a sandwich which is not ideal!

Clytemnestra21 · 07/12/2025 17:50

Great to hear about all the progress. Agree with you @SlimGinabout the lack of wriggle room.
@BogRollBOGOFyou sound similar to me- so glad for you you’re making consistent progress. How many times a well are you hitting the gym? And do you mind me asking your age bracket?
I’ve been good about establishing a regular exercise habit over the last couple of years despite injuries and other setbacks. But I really need to get my nutrition under control

Fibrous · 07/12/2025 20:29

My goal for December is just to not let my exercise regime slip and aim to keep my weight in my usual ballpark. I’m not skipping the mince pies or cheese - all that can come in January. I’m doing the Caroline girvan Christmas advent calendar - so training every day. And then running, too. I think that should keep me aligned with my plans.

im going to try to count calories all January even though I find it so tedious. Maybe I will try to do some batch cooking to reduce the faff. We don’t eat much out of packets, I make everything from scratch, so I do find weighing everything a chore, when I usually just guess quantities when I’m cooking. I would like to lose three kilos between new year and when the clocks change.

I'm mid-40s. I do a circuits type class and a heavier weights session per week plus lots of being on my feet, 2-3 runs and walking/ cycling a short commute.

It was definitely easier to lose baby-weight 10+ years ago!

BogRollBOGOF · 08/12/2025 20:05

It's the 8th Dec and I'm on a pleasing average of 0.75 mince pies per day and no stollen/ liebkucken yet Grin

CherryBlossom2025 · 08/12/2025 20:22

Well done @BogRollBOGOF! I haven’t had a mince pie yet, but I’m sure that will change soon. I’ve also resisted buying stollen and have currently just got it arriving in my supermarket delivery before Christmas. (I love it but no one else in my house likes it.)

I’ve been bouncing around 8st5 this week. I’m really hoping to still be around this weight after Christmas. But not sure if that will be possible? I’d then love to try to get to 8st by the summer (yes, I lose very slowly).

I’m having a really hungry day today. Does anyone else find it hard to know how much to listen to your body and how much to try to fight against it? I average around 1400 calories per day and 90% of the time I’m very satisfied on that - I prioritise lots of fibre and protein. But I’ve had 1500 calories today and genuinely still feel hungry. I have done over 20,000 steps and a Caroline Girvan weights workout, but that’s not unusual. It’s hard to know whether to listen to my body and eat a bit more on days like today (that probably happen about twice a month) or try to push through so that I don’t undo my progress.

Fibrous · 08/12/2025 20:40

My approach to those days is to eat, but don't beat myself up about it, so it doesn't derail the next day.

I'm impressed at the lack of mince pie consumption. I'm trying to work out how many we've consumed so far by counting the boxes in my head, and the tray of them I baked, I think it's around 50, between two of us 😬Although I think I might have reached my mince pie fill. I'm onto the cheese and biscuits.

😆😆😆

My mince pies are still sitting in the freezer (polishes halo 😇) however, I unfortunately wasn’t able to freeze the bag of M&S Italian chocolates that found their way into my mouth over 2 evenings 😁 absolutely no self control… I have now decided to buy nothing else u til Xmas eve!

This made me chuckle so much. We have eaten 12 mince pies between 4 of us, so a way to go yet to catch up! We have finally got round to booking the chimney sweep so can get the fire going at the weekend, am looking forward to warming some cheese in front of that!

I have been a bit depressed since October, so have stopped calorie counting and watching what I eat, so have put on again. Am working on the mood and hope in January knowing that the light will soon return and with a clean sheet in the diary I will be able to get back on it.

Fathomless · 10/12/2025 08:43

How is everyone fitting in exercise on these cold dark evenings? I do some walking evey day however don't feel it's enough to lose weight. Haven't weighed myself in a while as don't feel I've lost much at all

saywhatdidhesay · 10/12/2025 10:19

The mince pies that I really love, home made looking - from the bakery, with the perfect pastry to filling ratio are now £6 a box so I could not justify the expense this week. That will help me not eat any!

The first of the Xmas meals is tomorrow for me and then one next week. Not going to beat myself up if I go over on the calories but will be trying to keep some balance. Wish me luck Confused

The only exercise I do really is an hour’s dog walk each day (I WFH so do it on my lunch break) I occasionally if I can be bothered use my reformer Pilates board or the stepper machine at home, but that’s rare atm as I just have no motivation for exercise atm.

I don’t find exercise helps my weight loss really, it’s definitely IF and calorie counting that does it for me.

Weighed myself this morning, 54.7kgs now, woohoo. I’d like to get to 52/51 kgs so 2-3 more to go. I don’t have a specific time in mind, I really wanted to get to 54kgs by Christmas which might just be doable now and the rest can come off in the new year (fingers crossed!)

CherryBlossom2025 · 10/12/2025 13:40

Sorry to hear you’re having a tough time @Hoolahoophop I hope things improve for you soon.

@Fathomless I do home workouts. I do Caroline Girvan weights workouts early in the morning. I do a lot of walking in daily life but will also sometimes do a walking YouTube workout if I’m watching something on TV in the evening (I like Olivia Lawson at the moment).

Can I ask those of you who are enjoying lovely mince pies, stollen and other Christmassy treats - do you consciously reduce your calories for other meals or do you find you’re able to enjoy the occasional more calorific item without it doing too much damage? I think I need to find a better balance. I’m so scared about not having a repeat of Easter (when I gained a number of pounds over a few days and then taken 8 months to lose those pounds) that I’m currently saying no to everything, but I want to be able to enjoy making memories with family/not always saying no over the next couple of weeks. I think I also need to remind myself, that although I want to lose a few pounds, at 5ft2 and 8st5, I’m not overweight and it’s probably ok to have the odd mince pie or chocolate!

Hi, I fast from 18.00/18.30 through til 14.00/14.30 each day Monday- Thursday/ Friday and have the weekends off it. Though I say that, I do fast at the weekends if I have no plans that will interfere with it/ feel like it.

I’ve just recently in the last couple of weeks been sticking to 1300 cal a day on my fasting days and this has really seemed to re-kick off the weight loss after a slight slow down with just the fasting. For that, I break my fast at 2pm with some Fage 0% yogurt and chopped up fruit. I’ll then have a small sweet treat about 4pm, usually a biscuit or 2 and then stick to a 700 cal dinner in the evening.

I plan to stick to this until I reach my goal weight and then go back to normal calories (within reason) and slightly shorter fasts to hopefully maintain!

I eat my normal meals as I have a medical requirement to get enough fibre everyday and also if I don’t eat proper meals I eat more crap.

I try and do more exercise to counter the bad food. But if I eat too much I will inevitably gain something. I am not super slim though anyway (bmi 23) so a couple of kilos here and there isn’t noticeable until it gets too much and things no longer fit.

Fibrous · 17/12/2025 08:30

Well we’re more than half way through December and the onslaught of meals out is continuing for me. I don’t think I’m going to manage my goal of not gaining weight before Christmas as I’m not being particularly restrained with all the treats, but I think I’m only about half a kilo up. I’ve been very diligent with exercising every day. My FIL usually buys me loads of chocolate for Christmas (he does all his shopping in Tesco) but I’ve asked him not to this year, and directed him towards my book list instead if he wants to get me something. I’m hoping to start undoing the damage from 28th when my mother goes back home, with a day off on NYE as we’re going to a friends house.

How are the rest of you getting on?

TappaMcFeety · 17/12/2025 09:42

I think December is for enjoying yourself - not going crazy but certainly relaxing a bit; having a nice meal and socialising. I’m lucky in one way, I wfh and am immunosuppressed ,so there aren’t any Xmas parties/meals to tempt me! 😄 But the brakes are going to come off Xmas day!

Anyway, still not jumping on those scales first thing but use an old H&M pencil skirt that I bought 15+ years ago. It’s not very forgiving and I can tell instantly if I’ve put weight on when I try it in and pleased to say that it is fitting very comfortably!

Fibrous · 17/12/2025 09:58

Yes clothes are always a reliable indicator! I got a bag of clothes back from my FILs place that I’d stored there a couple of years ago as we had been trying to move (unsuccessful) and we’d decluttered our house to sell it. It’s interesting to see how my body shape has changed with a couple of years of weight training. My legs and back seem to be bigger but the rest of me is smaller. I had some shortish dresses that now longer really work as my legs seem too big for them and they look odd. I used to have quite a big bum but that seems to have got smaller. I wish I’d taken some reliable measurements to track the changes. If I look in the mirror I don’t think I look any different but the clothes don’t lie!

CortieTat · 17/12/2025 10:04

I’m doing well. Last weekend was quite intense with several family parties, but I kept choosing sensible options - made mochi at home for the occasion so if anything I overate on rice and spent good 40 minutes pounding the thing first 😅. My little one had some kind of stomach bug and nursed much more than usual so my weight actually went down a bit.

We are travelling to visit family over Christmas and it’s going to be tough. My mother is a feeder extraordinaire, she offers food basically 24/7 and gets really hurt when you politely refuse. The good thing is her preferences are very restricted, it’s always been like this since I remember. It’s difficult to overindulge on bland chicken and overcooked vegetables.
