All petites are welcome on this thread, but it seemed like it would be particularly helpful to have a corner of Mumsnet for those of us who are petite/small framed and officially a 'healthy weight' but know we feel/look better a few pounds lighter (which would still be within a healthy weight/not underweight).

Maybe we can share goals, progress, struggles, things that are working, etc.? It would also be lovely to hear from any petites who are at a 'happy weight' and what you are doing to be successful.

Feel free to share as much or little as you like. Height, current weight, goal weight or other body measurements, nutrition, calories, exercise, NSV, etc.

How many calories in a mince pie? Just one week in but I have had some success calorie counting using the nutracheck app and trying to focus on getting enough protein. Down 2kgs this week, but it should come off as there is a lot of excess weight.

mince pies are just too tempting, most likely it was the six packs from the bakery last Christmas that got me where I am now!

Have done slimming world in the past, this high protein/calorie approach feels sustainable and is working better now I am almost 45 - as just cutting back and kidding myself I’m being mindful about what I eat has not worked. The nutracheck app is also good as you can scan barcodes which makes it easier to log foods.

what has hit me is how much my identity was tied to being small/petite and slim. I don’t recognise this bigger person in the mirror

Fibrous · 18/11/2025 16:11

Yeah mine are from the farm shop so I have no idea how many calories but they are heavy, so I presume a lot! Putting them in the freezer is a good idea!

Iloveleaveinconditioner · 18/11/2025 17:22

Hi All,

Can I join? I’m 5’3, 56.5 kg /8st 8lbs. I have managed to lose nearly 4kg since August IF and just being a bit more mindful. I put on a stone over the last year (no idea how) and at my heaviest I was 9st 7 and felt blah, jeans were all too tight, looked and felt bloated etc.

My goal is to get to 8st. Previous to the weight gain I was always 8st 5lb ish so would love to surpass that so when I inevitably put in a few lbs, I’ll still be thinner than normal!

I plan to carry on IF for the rest of my life tbh, I don’t really find it that hard anymore

I do only do it Mon-Fri though and tend to have the weekends off where I eat what i like, annoyingly then every Monday I’ve put on a lb or 2. I just don’t want to do restricted eating 7 days a week, I find it so boring and we’re quite social at the weekends and IF/ dieting wouldn’t really work, especially as it often involves alcohol. I figure 5 days a week is better than nothing and it has helped me lose weight so far, it’s slow progress though because of the weekends.

TappaMcFeety · 18/11/2025 18:30

Welcome @Iloveleaveinconditioner it sounds like we have very similar stats, but 8st 5 is my goal.

Well done on the 4kg weight loss - it’s not easy at our height!

I like the sound of your ‘heavy’ mince pies @Fibrous 😁

Mince pies are rather calorie dense!
A box of 6 regular Mr Kipling style would take me a half marathon to burn off! It's something like 250 calories each, and they're just far too easy to eat through and are an extra that tips me out of balance very, very easily.

But I love them.and they're a a major feature of Christmas to me 😋

...feeling very lucky that I am no fan of the mice pie.

Though I am rather addicted to chocolates and people have started bringing in tubs of roses, quality street, celebrations and hero's into work already. I am doomed.

It’s just not the time to be trying to eat well - So hard when all these lovely foods and treats are everywhere you go.

Although funny enough I seem to have lost my liking for Baileys. I had one the other day and it tasted far too rich and heavy and I didn’t enjoy it at all - although I’m sure I’ll find something to replace it with!

I’m taking it that there are a few half marathons on the horizon this Xmas then @BogRollBOGOF 😁

Hoolahoophop · 19/11/2025 11:00

I bumped into a neighbor this morning at 7.30 on his way back from a freezing 5k run. So @BogRollBOGOF if there are some half marathons in your Christmas I bow down to you. I shall be mostly sitting on the sofa engaging in marathon puzzle session.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/11/2025 17:04

I might do one around Christmas. I recently raced 10 miles.

My running is a bit "weekend warrior" at the moment. I've got used to walking to work and being on my feet all day, but time+energy is a bit tight for extra runs. Not helped by uninviting dark evenings, and I hadn't had the energy to get into a routine before the nights drew in.
Running in the dark gets more appealing in December when the Christmas lights are up and there's more to look at.

Welcome @3smallpups and @Iloveleaveinconditioner

I was 8st4.75 this morning. (Yes, that 1/4 of a pound under 8st5 is important!) According to ‘Happy Scale’ this is my lowest weight since January. I crept up to around 8st11 around Easter time. I still think I’m aiming for 8st but will reassess if I ever get anywhere near there. Happy Scale predicts I’ll get to 8st in June!

The talk about mince pies etc is so interesting. The occasional mince pie and the odd chocolate to a taller family member or friend probably won’t make much difference to their weight, but for us, it really can. I never particularly over indulge (and never have) but I’m still really aware that I don’t want to undo the progress I’m making.

I gained a few pounds over Easter weekend (and I really didn’t eat that much). It’s taken me 7 months to lose what I gained on one weekend. I don’t want the same to happen over Christmas, but I also want to have a sensible and balanced approach to life in general. Eg. Surely it’s ok to enjoy a mince pie! I think my approach needs to be to really think and plan. Eg. A cheap supermarket mince pie might not be worth the calories (or it might be if it’s the right occasion), but my Mum’s homemade mince pie when we arrive on Christmas Eve might be worth the calories.

Can anyone relate to my current ponderings? Does anyone else have any plans for getting the balance of enjoying Christmas, being relaxed/flexible but also not then needing to take 7 months to lose a 3 or 4 pound gain?!

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 23/11/2025 13:57

Can I join please? I'm 5"3 with very small bone structure. I'm currently 48kg, aiming for 45kg. The half stone will not go! I think I need to cut out alcohol entirely.

TappaMcFeety · 23/11/2025 14:09

I only allow myself Xmas day to really take the breaks off. I intend to eat and drink what I fancy and enjoy myself! I naturally find that if I have a day where I eat a lot, I’m not so hungry the next, so Boxing day will probably be a light affair and then straight back on to my usual healthy meals, with maybe a few more luxurious bits thrown in!

But thats not to say that I won’t allow myself to have a mince pie here and there on the run up, but I just don’t buy chocolates and crisps that I know will tempt me to eat them. Same with alcohol, I’ll get a bottle of wine for Xmas day but won’t get anything else.

CortieTat · 23/11/2025 18:22

I’m reading the mince pie stories with interest, I’ve never had a mince pie and I actually had to google them! They look delicious 🤤.

On this side of the North Sea the kale season has started, our village shop stocks 10 kg bags that are piled just outside the door. I bought one (nice workout), we store them in the garage. I add kale to nearly everything, but my favourite comfort food with kale is Roberto the soup. 🍲

My weight is still the same, I was under 50 kilos for a couple of days but fortunately bounced back to my happy weight. It’s really interesting that I don’t see that much fluctuation anymore, I remember when I was younger (and didn’t look like my old wiry martial arts sensei) it would fluctuate constantly.

I don’t have any Christmas tips. We are visiting family and my mother is a feeder extraordinaire. I usually survive by eating all the kale dishes in large quantities first 😅 and topping up with herring. I actually like both.

3smallpups · 23/11/2025 18:24

That’s so interesting re the kale
we just buy it in small amounts here
I only really like it chopped up , add oil salt and sugar and roast
am intrigued by your soup that has a name !

Iloveleaveinconditioner · 23/11/2025 19:09

@CherryBlossom2025

Yes, I’m right there with you in it taking forever to lose weight gained and wondering if treats our worth it.

I’m not very good at resisting though! I do 20 hour fasts Mon-Friday and have Sat and Sun as my ‘treat days’ trouble is I’m finding it hard to get past a certain weight as the weight I’ve lost during the week, I tend to put back on over the weekend and then rinse and repeat the following week!

Iloveleaveinconditioner · 23/11/2025 19:11

Weighed myself yesterday and I was the same weight. Fully expect to have put on weight this weekend, although I have fasted for 20 hours a day both days this weekend, just unfortunately indulged in too much wine and chocolate/ popcorn in my eating windows

Going to try doing some 24/36 hour fasts next week to kick start the weight loss as I have 2 meals out and a lot of socialising/ drinking next weekend so am already worried about the effect that will have!

The original recipe for Roberto is from the New Yorker and it’s extremely verbose. It’s a simple Italian-style dish with kale, tomatoes, salsiccia and beans. I prefer to make it with lentils and either beef or lamb mince instead of the sausage.
I add kale to salads, poké bowls, soups, make crisps and cook it.

Fathomless · 23/11/2025 22:59

I'm 4'11 and weigh the heaviest I ever have. 9st 5lb. it's crept on gradually and I have pcos. I'm determined to lose and go down under 8st. I can't do much besides walking due to some health issues so dieting is the only way to go. I have NO IDEA how I will go about it, but I really need to lose weight now, its further affecting my health, and none of my clothes fit me any more. everything is a tight squeeze. Was very upset to wear a thick winter jacket that fit perfectly last being a very tight fit this year. Good luck everyone!

Can I ask how the 24/36 hour fasts work? I'm interested to try

PeachesMcQueen · 23/11/2025 23:30

I’d like to join this group!
I’m 43, stand at 5ft 3 and currently 7 stone 9lbs.
I’ve lost a stone and a half in the past year, after settling around about 9 stone after my second baby.
Im really enjoying looking slim again, my face looks so much better, when I look back at photos I can’t believe how moon like my face was! I’m on immunosuppressants for an autoimmune condition but the weight has suddenly dropped off.
I do the 16/8 fast but I usually cheat with a coffee or two around 8am. Last meal of the day is 6pm and I eat breakfast around 10am ish if I’m hungry. If not I wait til lunch.
Im finding it hard with other mums at the school gate, the cold snap last week made one mum tell me that I wouldn’t be so cold if I was fatter. Does anyone else find this an issue?

PeachesMcQueen · 23/11/2025 23:33

Just to add, I’ve hit a plateau, no matter what I do I can’t get to my target of 7stone 7bs.
Think I’ll just see where I’m at after Christmas, I love a festive baileys or 3!

I just have my last meal at 6/6.30pm and then fast all day until 6/6.30pm (if it’s a 24 hour fast) I drink water and tea and actually, although you’re not meant to, I do have a few splashes of milk in my teas (you’re meant to drink them black) I’ve been losing pretty consistently since August doing this so I don’t think it does too much harm.

I don’t find it difficult anymore, I used to, but your body adjusts after a couple of times trying it. I wouldn’t go straight in with a 24 hour fast though if you haven’t fasted before, I’d start with a 16:8 and work your way up from there x

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 24/11/2025 08:41

@PeachesMcQueenim a similar height and weight to you, after reaching around 9 stone with my second child too. I also get the comments about how I should put on weight to be less cold. They're tiresome. Solidarity.

Brilliant, thanks so much. I've started a fast today, haven't eaten since 6pm last night, will see how it goes. My clothes have become far too tight, if I don't lose some sharpish I'll have to buy a whole new wardrobe! Also miss wearing all my lovely clothes that don't fit since last year 😢

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 24/11/2025 08:49

Fasting sounds really interesting. I do a fairly intense workout class in my lunch hour that im not sure I could get through without something in the morning. I might introduce 16:8 as a start on the days I'm not doing the class.
