Petite support thread... continued

All petites are welcome on this thread, but it seemed like it would be particularly helpful to have a corner of Mumsnet for those of us who are petite/small framed and officially a 'healthy weight' but know we feel/look better a few pounds lighter (which would still be within a healthy weight/not underweight).

Maybe we can share goals, progress, struggles, things that are working, etc.? It would also be lovely to hear from any petites who are at a 'happy weight' and what you are doing to be successful.

Feel free to share as much or little as you like. Height, current weight, goal weight or other body measurements, nutrition, calories, exercise, NSV, etc.

Morning All,

Busy heavy chore weekend, with lots of Takeaway to keep us going. So didn't bother weighing in today. That can wait for tomorrow.

Lots of new people on the thread. Welcome.

Well I managed a 23 hour fast!

If anyone has any tips for losing weight with pcos, please share.

Well I managed a 23 hour fast!

If anyone has any tips for losing weight with pcos, please share.

I came across Kym Campbell - she has pcos and has a whole program of optimising health through diet. She is active in the fertility community (if you try to get pregnant after 45 like me you know them all 😅) but her whole focus is pcos. She has a paid program but also free resources. https://smartfertilitychoices.com/ - she’s also on instagram and YouTube.

Another thing you might want to check is various Traditional Chinese Medicine resources about food and nutrition. The focus is often on fertility but it’s always about being in the best possible health.

All these resources are often focused on eating low GI foods and how to compose meals to keep the overall GI low.

For me personally the gateway to healthy eating was the paleo diet, it’s very much naturally low GI, assuming that you actually focus on eating real food instead of looking for ways to replace your favourite cake with a paleo version 😅.

All these resources are not diets, it’s healthy eating for life. Of course it is still possible to put on weight on healthy food (I did 😅), but once the nutrition part is sorted it becomes a matter of portion control.

I’d like to join this group!
I’m 43, stand at 5ft 3 and currently 7 stone 9lbs.
I’ve lost a stone and a half in the past year, after settling around about 9 stone after my second baby.
Im really enjoying looking slim again, my face looks so much better, when I look back at photos I can’t believe how moon like my face was! I’m on immunosuppressants for an autoimmune condition but the weight has suddenly dropped off.
I do the 16/8 fast but I usually cheat with a coffee or two around 8am. Last meal of the day is 6pm and I eat breakfast around 10am ish if I’m hungry. If not I wait til lunch.
Im finding it hard with other mums at the school gate, the cold snap last week made one mum tell me that I wouldn’t be so cold if I was fatter. Does anyone else find this an issue?

Fantastic weight loss! Can I ask what you tended to eat in a day when losing weight? Any tips or tricks? I’m same height and currently 2 stone heavier than you! Would love to get back to 8 stone.

PeachesMcQueen · 25/11/2025 10:22

@thisist I made a huge change in portion size and really watched what I ate. My husband is 6ft 4 and weighs about 15 stone and our dinner portions were the same. So now I make sure my plate is no where near as full as his. Pasta portion for me is about 75-80g, whereas I allow about 130g for him.
I have full fat Greek yoghurt with fruit and oats for lunch, or a slice of toast with a banana and then have a sensible dinner, filling up on veg.
No evening snacks unless it’s Saturday night when I eat as much chocolate as I fancy. And I drink wine on Fri/sat/sun night, no alcohol in the week.
And I walk quite a lot, most days I hit 10,000.

saywhatdidhesay · 25/11/2025 10:59

Morning all. I have been trying very hard and have stuck to calorie counting and am down 6lbs since I started. Aware most of this will be water but I can already see and feel the loss which will help me to keep going, as I expect it to slow down now.

PeachesMcQueen · 25/11/2025 11:15

Great job, I found the first half stone the hardest, it got a lot easier after that.

Fathomless · 25/11/2025 21:24

@CortieTat thanks for sharing that, appreciate the detailed response! Will look at the website, I really hope I can lose the weight 😫

Iloveleaveinconditioner · 25/11/2025 22:19

I did my first day calorie counting today and sticking to 1200 cals. I really don’t find it easy, it’s surprising how calories add up. I fasted for 20 hours and then broke it with fruit and Fage 0% yogurt. Then had scrambled eggs and avacado on two slices of wholemeal toast for dinner.

I’m going to try and stick to no more than 1000-1200 cals Mon-Thurs/Friday now, on top of my fasting to try and accelerate this weight loss a bit before Christmas.

I’m due on tomorrow or Thursday though so will avoid weighing myself as know the results will be less than savoury 🙈

TappaMcFeety · 26/11/2025 08:21

All still going well - I’m averaging about 1400 a day, sometimes more, but its all unprocessed good stuff and I don’t mind going over if it means I’m eating well and getting all the nutrients I need. I would weigh myself, but I’m too darn cold 🥶 to take my clothes off first thing 😁 so have to make do with some clothes that I use as a measuring guide and everything is slightly looser - so hopefully a win.

Iloveleaveinconditioner · 26/11/2025 12:32

Weighed myself this morning (despite saying I wouldn’t) and I was 2lbs down, which I was ecstatic with as I’m feeling really bloated and crampy and due on any day and genuinely thought it would be the other way!

It must be the calorie counting and sticking to 1200 which I’m loathe to do but think I’ll have to stick to that and the fasting for a bit as it seems to be making a difference

Fibrous · 26/11/2025 21:08

I’ve gained half a kilo, I’m 57kg, but I have been having about three mince pies a day for the last two weeks. I’m having a month of no added sugar now until Christmas Day.

I’m impressed that you’ve only gained half a kilo on 3 mince pies a day! 😄

Fibrous · 27/11/2025 08:34

@TappaMcFeety I’ve been ill so have been having lots of soup which probably balanced it out. Although I seem to eat quite a lot compared to some on this thread. I eat three full meals and usually a couple of snacks every day. Sugar is my nemesis though. That’s what makes me gain weight. My DP is really slim and eats loads of sugary stuff so we cant not have it in the house, if it wasn’t here I wouldn’t eat it, but he’s mince pie obsessed!

TappaMcFeety · 27/11/2025 11:00

@Fibrous Sorry to hear that - hope you’re on the mend now? Sugar is my nemesis too - my diet is very good and I take real care and thought over what I eat but but then I go and spoil it all with the sweet stuff! I just can’t have it in, hence why the mince pies are in the freezer. I stupidly bought some Reece’s Xmas chocs the other day for a stocking filler and you guessed it..! 😁

Fibrous · 27/11/2025 11:19

@TappaMcFeety yep I'm exactly the same. Avoidance is the best way to combat that lack of self control around sugar. Although I make date and peanut butter balls if I'm really craving it. They have plenty of fibre in them so you only eat a couple.

Yeah it was just a cold but colds are so annoying I was feeling very sorry for myself. also when I stop exercising I don't eat as well, I need to exercise 5/6 times a week otherwise my motivation starts to drop.

SlimGin · 27/11/2025 12:31

Hi all 👋 I’d like to join!
I’m 5’2 and early 30s, had my 2nd child 4 months ago and now trying to get back to 8st. I’m breastfeeding so while the initial baby weight dropped off very quickly, I now have approx 10lbs to lose to bring me back to 8st.
I walk about 10k steps a day and do baby + mum fitness classes but they are naturally quite low intensity!
I had previous weight loss success by calorie counting but it’s so time consuming and includes a fair bit of guess work as my partner is the main chef and I can’t ask him to weigh out every ingredient! so at first I’ll start by reducing portion sizes and cutting unhealthy snacks as these are my problem areas and will be guided by my energy levels. Will probably resort to tracking calories when this doesn’t work 😅

TappaMcFeety · 27/11/2025 13:40

Welcome @SlimGin - Sounds like a sensible approach; when you’re breastfeeding slow and steady is the way to go and even though it doesn’t feel like much, the walking and baby fitness classes will all be helping.

I didn’t lose that stubborn 10lbs until I gave up breastfeeding and then it came off pretty easily but it’s amazing how the body protects those fat stores for feeding.

SlimGin · 27/11/2025 14:14

@TappaMcFeetyThank you. That’s a great point about the fat stores.
I find myself having an extra large portion of dinner with the ‘well I’m breastfeeding’ excuse, so I just need to be a bit more mindful of what is excessive and what is sensible, it’s very easy to unknowingly cross the line but will take it slow as you say with no pressures.

Clytemnestra21 · 27/11/2025 14:20

Can I join? 5ft 2. 65kg. Would love to lose a bit but also 47 years old and focussing on lifting weights and so don’t want to lose muscle/ be low energy (also single parent and busy job)

DeepRubySwan · 28/11/2025 01:21

Im 5"6 and weigh about 60kg. I want to get back to my pre pregnancy weight of 56/57 kg which isn't much but is proving impossible, I am thinking of trying herbal teas...

Similar to me. 5'2" and generally loitering around 63kg.

It's generally trending downwards ever so slightly, then anything off piste like a holiday bouces it up.

However, I'm feeling slimmer since I really got going in March and I have progressed at the gym.

Hello everyone. I have weighed in and lost 9lbs now, so am almost at the top end of the healthy BMI for my 5feet 2inches!!. It’s the motivation I need to keep going, that and the fact my jeans are a whole lot more comfortable. I have some work things coming up and a meal out but am hoping I can stick to it as there is still a long way to go.

Well done! What a result - you just need to keep in mind how well you’ve done when you’re feeling tempted, but it is Xmas and if you do go a bit overboard, just draw a line and get back on it the next day.

I am dreaming of Xmas day, where I’m allowing myself free rein - Only 23 days to go! 😁
