Petite support for losing a few pounds/getting to our 'happy' size

Hi all. Following on from the thread that @SprayPaint started yesterday, a few of us (@Waiting9 @Horriblehistoree @FaceofSpades) seemed keen to have a thread to support each other in reaching our weight loss/body shape/fitness/health goals.

All petites are welcome on this thread, but it seemed like it would be particularly helpful to have a corner of Mumsnet for those of us who are petite/small framed and officially a 'healthy weight' but know we feel/look better a few pounds lighter (which would still be within a healthy weight/not underweight).

Maybe we can share goals, progress, struggles, things that are working, etc.? It would also be lovely to hear from any petites who are at a 'happy weight' and what you are doing to be successful.

Someone (maybe @FaceofSpades?) posted some helpful thoughts on the thread yesterday.

Please share how you all think this thread could be helpful.

Feel free to share as much or little as you like. Height, current weight, goal weight or other body measurements, nutrition, calories, exercise, NSV, etc.

Arrghhh!! I haven’t weighted for two weeks and have put on the 5lbs I had lost! Back up to 132.8lbs!! Didn’t think I had been that bad 🫣🤷🏻‍♀️

BogRollBOGOF · 30/08/2025 15:19

Getting the trend back in the right direction now in one week. Prior to the summer holidays I was loitering around the cusp of 62-63kg, so hopefully should see 63kg again very soon.

In good news, it was lower than my previous holiday peak, so I'm calling that progress in the last 6m.

Sept should be a good time to gain momentum Smile

Welcome @Fourkgtogo and @TreeCake

@Hoolahoophop Yes, summer/holidays can be tricky.

Well done @BogRollBOGOF for getting the trend back in the right direction.

I was 8st7 this morning (but saw 8st6 earlier in the week). I use Happy Scale to track trends, which helps. (Is that what you use @BogRollBOGOF?)

I’m struggling a bit this week with finding the balance of the right calories to lose a few pounds of body fat but eating enough to fuel workouts and my active lifestyle. I’ve felt really tired and not really felt recovered between workouts this week and wondering if I’m not eating quite enough. It’s tricky isn’t it!

Mine are Renpho, £25 from Argos. Very highly recommended!

It's so much easier seeing the subtle shift of trends that naturally wobble around.

BogRollBOGOF · 03/09/2025 16:23

Back in the 63s which is roughly where I plateaued off at before holiday.

Time to work at some genuine losses rather than shifting holiday/ PMT/ sniffly cold bloat...

Routine is about to get going!

Hoolahoophop · 04/09/2025 09:31

Morning all,

Added to wanting to reduce my weight in general (and get well into healthy BMI) I have been told I have three months to reduce my cholesterol before the GP starts pressuring me to try statins. Which refocuses the mind and fits in with what I was trying to do before. Reduce portion sizes and eat more fruit and veg, reduce starchy white carbs and unhealthy fats.

Fingers crossed!

Fibrous · 04/09/2025 10:20

@Hoolahoophop i reduced my cholesterol from 6.8 to 4.5 by following a high fibre diet, and cutting out sugar. I’ve relapsed but looking to get back on it on Monday after my holiday. I felt really good while I was following it too.

Hoolahoophop · 04/09/2025 10:38

That's positive @Fibrous did you just switch to whole meal versions of everything you ate or add in extra fiber with pulses etc. I cant cut out sugar...need my two chocolates a night!

I'm dreadful for buttery cheesy breakfasts at the weekend (oozy omelets or melted brie and cranberry on toast, crumpets dripping in butter and honey!) so going to swap for some smashed avocado toasted seed bread. We don't tend to eat many bought in cakes and biscuits, but I do like to bake with the kids so have to watch the snacking on cookies and rock cakes! Then plan better so I don't follow the kids preferred diet of sausages and burgers! Have eaten at least 3 portions of fish a week since I was told which is good for the body, bad for the wallet.

Fibrous · 04/09/2025 10:40

Yeah I cut out white carbs completely and just ate loads of pulse based dishes, soups, fish and veg etc. fruit and veg, home made smoothies, peanut butter and dates etc for sweet treats. Lots of healthy fats, full fat yoghurt etc. I had bum issues which is why I was doing it but the reduced cholesterol was a nice bonus!

Fibrous · 04/09/2025 10:43

Breakfast was overnight oats, with dates, tahini, nuts seeds and seasonal fruit.

Hoolahoophop · 04/09/2025 10:48

Thanks Fibrous, I love a dal so thought batch cooking that for lunches might be a good start with the weather turning from salad to stew.

Was an excuse to buy a new Mediterranean cook book as well. Every cloud and all that.

Convincing the rest of the family to swap from regular pasta to whole meal and white rice to brown will be tricky. But I'll try.

Fibrous · 04/09/2025 10:57

Yeah mine didn’t swap. I either cooked mine separately, had no carbs, or had a wholemeal pitta.

TreeCake · 07/09/2025 13:11

Heading in the right direction! I'm now 9st13lb and getting under the 10st mark feels amazing!

Fibrous · 08/09/2025 08:05

Got back from my holiday last night, so braved the scales this morning, and I'm 58.8 kgs. It seems I've gained two kilos in two weeks, but I suspect that last reading wasn't accurate as my scales can be haphazard on our bathroom tiles. I repeated the measurements five times this morning and unfortunately think todays reading is correct. So, back on the high fibre diet and off the sugar and carbs for me again. I do feel a lot fatter so I did have my suspicions. Gonna try and form some solid good habits between now and christmas.

minipie · 08/09/2025 08:44

That’s exactly where I am Fibrous. I lost a bit at the start of the summer, largely due to a week when it was very hot and I had a horrible cold and ate almost nothing. Then put it all back on over the summer. Sigh

I’m back doing regular exercise so that should help… just need to ensure I don’t dive into the buttery carbs when colder weather hits.

Hoolahoophop · 08/09/2025 09:23

I hope your holiday was wonderful Fibrous I think quite often its easier to re-loose the quickly added holiday weight than the slow increase. Hopefully back to good habits and you will see it go down fast.

I went for a run at the weekend, first in about 18 months. So now I ache! But am hoping to reintroduce the 3x weekly 5k. And some strength and stretching routines, hopefully some Pilates.

My weight went up over the weekend, (again) but then my cycle is messed up at the moment, i seem to be on more often than not, so it could be something to do with that, and dh meaning well but not quite understanding the concept of diet.

Hey ho. Back on the overnight oats this morning, have a salad for lunch and undecided dinner. But dh is out so can suite myself with something healthy and light, and should have time tonight to make a batch of dal ready for the weeks lunches.

Fibrous · 08/09/2025 10:05

I've been exercising consistently so I haven't let that slide, at least, but I have definitely been in the 'eat as much as I can before I restart the diet' mode. I even ate a turkish delight in bed last night to get it eaten before the diet started today. I've just started taking hrt so I think that will be playing a factor but I'll feel better if I start getting some healthy meals planned.

I find if I do yoga in the evening it stops me craving snacks in the evening, so now the nights are drawing in, I'm going to do that again.

Good luck @minipie and @Hoolahoophop in getting back into the routine, this first week is always the hardest I find.

BogRollBOGOF · 08/09/2025 17:05

I'm into a new routine now.
Scales are up, but I'm not stressing that as I'm back on creatine and movement is back up so muscles are tired. I'm not feeling bloaty in the middle on it.
Had a busy day today so no time to notice hunger prior to lunch time.
Eating has been sensible- hopefully balanced.

My time for running has reduced, but I'm briskly walking daily, still doing my strength work and still fitting parkrun in. Hopefully consistency will show benefits in a few weeks as I'm feeling ready to see some progress after the summer disruption.

My appetite isn't in gear in the morning but I am needing breakfast, so I'm doing smoothies with frozen fruit, oat milk and protein powder and they're keeping me going nicely as lunch is on the late side.

Fibrous · 09/09/2025 09:43

Good luck with the return to work @BogRollBOGOF

I weighed in this morning and I’m 57.8kg, down a kilo on yesterday, so I guess I was just holding on to post holiday salt, water, etc. so only a kilo up on last time, not as depressing.

Hoolahoophop · 09/09/2025 10:01

Your sounding positive @BogRollBOGOF which is most of the battle I find. Great news on that kg @Fibrous 1kg is an easier target.

I managed a run again this morning. Lovely sunshine along the riverbank. Came home and cooked a quick omelet with some mushrooms and cherry tomato's. Tasty and satifying.

With my new low cholesterol diet in mind I cooked up six portions of sweet potato and spinach dhal last night, then cooked some marinated chicken mini fillets to add protein. Some have been frozen so that's a few lunches this week and next. Add in my oily fish on toast and lunch will be easy wins this week. Feeling positive today. And weighed in at exactly 56kg. My target is 48. But I would be very happy at 52.

Fibrous · 09/09/2025 10:15

@Hoolahoophop yeah my goal weight is also low 50s but at least I'm not starting as far away. Good work on the meal prep. I'm working from home today so put a bean soup on to cook this morning and will be having sausage and lentils for dinner. Trying to make the food budget stretch until my boyfriend gets paid on the 15th as we spent a fortune in Edinburgh so it's lots of store cupboard favourites this week and defrosted things.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/09/2025 17:10

I recently went to Costco and did a bulk cook of chicken/ mince in veg that are easy to customise into different meals. It's a healthy base where the back is broken on preparation.

Octopus45 · 10/09/2025 09:53

Hi ladies, can I join? I’m 5ft4, small build, age 50, weighed 9st3.25. Lost weight quite successfully last year with IF, went from 9st8 to 8st10, but even though IF, have fell off the wagon. Other info, I’m on Tamoxifen for another 3 years following breast cancer, also menopausal, a big emotional eater and have mild IBS which can make eating more than a small amount of fibre/fruit/veg difficult. Things I do to help myself, Somatic Yoga which I’m loving, acupuncture for hot flushes (do this myself after having it in the NHS), a meno ring, various supplements including a probiotic gummy every day I know not very deep down that the answer is to get to grips with my emotional eating rather than a diet, as IF generally suits me, rarely hungry in the morning. Had a lot going on the last few years, lost my Dad 3 years ago, breast cancer 2 years ago, Son about to leave for uni, plus close friends who have been like nieces relocating. Also had my Uncle having major heart surgery over the Summer, plus husband’s cousin is going through breast cancer, so I’ve been helping her where I can. Sorry for essay and me me me nature of this post. Know I’m lucky in loads of ways and that I just need to crack the emotional eating. Goal weight 8st7 ish, although given my age and body shape (pear shaped, no boobs, if I lose too much weight in my face it really ages me, have been told this so trying to avoid.

minipie · 10/09/2025 11:10

@Hoolahoophop ha, great minds, I made a big batch of dal yesterday for lunches! Going to make some butternut soup soon, I also like the Kellys instant miso soups with some rice vermicelli and veg. Somehow salads just don’t cut it for me as the weather turns colder so I think dal and soup is the way forward.

Back on the exercise and feeling better for it, apart from the aches!! I was very moany last week about my poor legs after a lower body weights session 😆

Scales creeping down a tiny bit. Like half a pound. But I’ll take it.

Hello Octopus, sounds like you have had a lot of stresses, emotional eating totally understandable. I hope things turn smoother for you soon. I’m a similar weight and goal weight to you although right now just aiming for under 9 stone. What was your IF approach as I think that could work for me too?

Octopus45 · 10/09/2025 11:18

Hi, I have been aiming not to eat until 12 (sometimes later) and trying to be done by 7 or 8, but have been a bit slack with it recently
