Petite support for losing a few pounds/getting to our 'happy' size

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 06/10/2024 16:13

Hi all. Following on from the thread that @SprayPaint started yesterday, a few of us (@Waiting9 @Horriblehistoree @FaceofSpades) seemed keen to have a thread to support each other in reaching our weight loss/body shape/fitness/health goals.

All petites are welcome on this thread, but it seemed like it would be particularly helpful to have a corner of Mumsnet for those of us who are petite/small framed and officially a 'healthy weight' but know we feel/look better a few pounds lighter (which would still be within a healthy weight/not underweight).

Maybe we can share goals, progress, struggles, things that are working, etc.? It would also be lovely to hear from any petites who are at a 'happy weight' and what you are doing to be successful.

Someone (maybe @FaceofSpades?) posted some helpful thoughts on the thread yesterday.

Please share how you all think this thread could be helpful.

Feel free to share as much or little as you like. Height, current weight, goal weight or other body measurements, nutrition, calories, exercise, NSV, etc.

So after a week of 16:8 and loose calories counting, I have lost 4.7lb and now down to 129.7 lbs

Hoolahoophop · 03/07/2025 09:35

@Raindancer411 4.7lb in a week. That's amazing well done.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/07/2025 15:44

More loitering around the 62kgs with a bit of bobbing up to 63kg.

Hopefully it can keep edging down and maybe start seeing some 61kgs soon...

PlantBased11 · 06/07/2025 18:42

I'm v pleased to have found this thread! Also small and trying to shift some weight. Feeling a bit despondent about it today, been eating v carefully for two weeks (using Noom and logging everything) and seeing very little difference. My target cal is 1200 which it's so easy to go over. Probably feel a bit crap about it because I would usually eat anything I like and now I'm counting I'm realising quite how restrictive I have to be to be in deficit.
I'm 5ft4 and 60kg, aiming at 56 ish.

Fibrous · 06/07/2025 18:49

Weighed in this morning at 56.2kg. I’ve also had a diagnosis at last! I have an anal fissure. Seven months of the bastard.

it’s interesting that I’ve been so careful with my diet for so many months now (as anything greasy, spicy, sugary or processed results in serious pain the following morning) yet the weight loss has slowed to glacial pace. I’m not counting calories but I’m certainly not eating much either as funnily enough massive pain hinders your appetite.

just goes to show how hard it is to lose weight when you’re small. Even though I’m exercising every day to help with the pain.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/07/2025 22:03

@Fibrous that sounds really sore! I had issues in that zone after one of my births and it really was no fun. What are they like for healing up?

Fibrous · 06/07/2025 22:10

@BogRollBOGOF yeah anything in that zone is hideous! So I think it partially healed and then I ripped it open again, not knowing what was going on. I'm going to see a pelvic physio about trying to turn off some of my muscles in my pelvic floor as I think months of pain has resulted in the muscle the tear is in being over stimulated so it can't heal properly. I was given some cream to do that too but I can't take it because of my low heart rate so need another solution. I'm also doing a lot of yogic breathing while I take a poo to try not to tense or strain - easier said than done when it's like crapping broken glass. I'm pretty sure I did this lifting weights - which is very annoying as I was just trying to be a good middle aged woman thinking of my bones!

BogRollBOGOF · 07/07/2025 06:27

Between months of SPD and a rough birth I was a mess from my knees to my ribs for months after. An osteopath went a long way into fixing the pelvic issues. I reached the point where she'd resolved the pain and I was now limping out of 6m of habit so had to mentally train myself out of that.

Going to a physio sounds very sensible!

Pickingmyselfup · 07/07/2025 08:20

I've hit the point where I can no longer be in denial that I've put on weight, everything is getting tighter.

It's no surprise at all, I've been eating like I'm about to enter into a famine!!

Physio again today to try get to the bottom of my injury so I can start running properly again and then I need to get back into the gym and resume lifting. I've just spent weeks moping around feeling sorry for myself but I need to stop and start doing something!

Fibrous · 07/07/2025 12:19

@BogRollBOGOF yeah that sounds horrible and I can understand - I've been walking like John wayne for so long now there will be repercussions!

Thank heaven for physios. Hope you start to feel better soon too @Pickingmyselfup .

Everything is just so much more difficult to keep on top of when you can't do the exercises you enjoy and need. I really think the gym has been my downfall for my rear end but it has been so good for the rest of my body it's incredibly frustrating to have to give it up, but I think realistically I need to properly heal. I don't think there's any good replacement for weight training, though.

WombatChocolate · 07/07/2025 16:01

Having hit my target weight of 8st 10 at Easter,I’ve now crept back up to 9st. I vowed I wouldn’t let myself go above 9st again, as it’s such a massive effort to get the weight off. So looks like I need a bit more denial again.

Im early 50s and it seems to take forever to come off but go back on very quickly which is a bit sad. Oh well, better stop using the ice creams!

exactly the same as me! Got to 8.10 for my special school reunion in April ( first boyfriend of 1974/5 wasn’t there sadly to admire my slim 68 yr old figure! and maybe regret ditching me)now crept up a bit. Off to the Far East to visit eldest son for 2 weeks so will start again when I get back.

Raindancer411 · 09/07/2025 07:28

Arggghhh, after getting down to below 130lb the other day, I have fluctuated back to 130.4lb after my initial 4.7lb loss. Hoping it’s just water retention.

Hoolahoophop · 09/07/2025 08:35

I was doing so well, but I'm tired, and yesterday I ate ALL the food. Was really hoping this week to get an average below 54kg as last weeks average was 41.1!

Millie2008 · 11/07/2025 15:50

Can I join please (late to the party I realise!)
But think it might be the place for me!
I’m 40, 5ft 2, small framed and currently 9st 2
my realistic aim is 8st
for the last week I’ve been doing 5:2 and lost a couple of pounds.
don’t know if this will continue to work though
has anyone done 5:2 and reached their goal??
thanks!

ItIsAlwaysSwingsAndRoundabouts · 12/07/2025 16:57

I haven’t posted for a while. It’s been, well swings and roundabouts 😂
I was doing so well, got down to 8st 8. Then the binging and serious cravings started, and I managed to creep back to 9st. Currently hovering somewhere in the region of 8st 12 to 8st 13.
I started the iron series, and I’m hoping the reason for slow loss is water retention.
I have also stopped any sort of calorie counting, but my cravings are awful. I do have pcos and that doesn’t help at all.

BogRollBOGOF · 13/07/2025 07:04

I'm wavering all over with water retention from the heat.
My appetite is being quite calm, so there might be long term progress chipping away underneath, just no obvious pattern showing at the moment.

Pickingmyselfup · 13/07/2025 11:00

So I decided to weigh myself this morning dressed and having eaten but just to get a rough idea of where I'm at.

As I suspected I have gained approx 3kg in a bit less than a month (I deducted a kg off the scale weight to account for clothes, coffee and energy bar)

Not ideal at all, I'm now 58kg making me at the top end of a normal weight.

My goal is 50kg and I need to reach this by August next year, I'm 40 next October and thinking of having a party and want to wear a fabulous slinky dress for it. It's totally doable, if I lose 1kg a month I will hit my goal by April so gives me wiggle room for Christmas.

I really need to get back in the gym, I've lost all motivation during this nice weather period but I am slowly picking running back up. It's a bit stop start with my injury but I'm doing what I can and taking a break if I feel it's necessary.

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 13/07/2025 11:30

Welcome to the new joiners over the last couple of weeks and to those who are returning.

@BogRollBOGOF I’m also hoping there’s progress happening underneath and really hoping there’s some water retention, as I feel like I’m doing everything ‘right’! Keep going!

@Pickingmyselfup Well done for weighing. What’s your strategy/plan?

@ItIsAlwaysSwingsAndRoundabouts Do you know what led to the cravings, etc? Do you think you had been over-restricting? I’m also still doing Caroline Girvan workouts. Are you enjoying Iron? I started with that series last year and thinking of starting it again next week.

I’m currently 8st10, which is heavier than when we started this thread! I’m not quite sure why. I’m aiming for 8 stone (but would settle for higher than 8 stone if I could lose the belly fat/flabbiness!).

Keep going, everyone!

@ACuppaAlwaysHelps Eat less and drink less alcohol, up my exercise without overdoing the injury. It's always worked before but over the last 3 years I've found it so much harder to restrict myself even when I'm not restricting too much. I want to be able to eat a slice of cake even if I don't have the calories or eat more cheese.

I just like food and wine too much 🙄

Sounds like we have very similar goals @Pickingmyselfup
how tall are you if you don’t mind me asking?
im planning on weighing myself on Mondays. I was 9st 4 last Monday and have done 5:2 for a week- so hoping for 9st 2 tomorrow. I’m 5ft 2. Also aiming for 8st.
on days in between fasting I’m aiming for whole non processed foods as much as possible. I do struggle with keeping my energy levels up though- quite tired a lot of the time due to 2 small kids (one of whom is disabled). Any tips for low cal energy appreciated!

Millie2008 · 13/07/2025 18:24

Oh, and yes, I enjoy food, wine and cheese far too much too 🤦‍♀️🙄😭 when there are so few pleasures in life it’s an easy win
really need to get back to some exercise too- finding the time is a bugger though

It is hard especially when the kids are smaller.

A usual week for me would be..

Monday-Gym in the AM after the school run
Tuesday-Run
Wednesday AM pre work-Gym (if long weekend run)
Thursday PM-Run
Friday-Nothing
Saturday-Run
Sunday AM-Gym if Saturdays run was short

I walk the kids to school and back most days too and I'm on my feet at work which helps a lot. If I had an office job that I drove to I would be a lot heavier!!

I'm 5'1 and pear shaped so all my weight gain goes straight to my legs and bum and obviously weight loss comes off my already small boobs and already thin face 🙄🙄

BogRollBOGOF · 13/07/2025 20:13

I've drunk very little alcohol in the last 4 months... although I'm not sure that swapping to 0% cider helps Grin

Either way, I don't drink much to stress over anyway. The benefit of 0% is less sleep disruption.

What I have got through this week is electrolyte drink, so that won't have helped. It has helped me drink enough in the heat though.

Wow you’re nailing it on the exercise front 👏
I’m apple shaped so all goes on my tummy sadly. So depressing 🤦‍♀️
