Petite support for losing a few pounds/getting to our 'happy' size

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 06/10/2024 16:13

Hi all. Following on from the thread that @SprayPaint started yesterday, a few of us (@Waiting9 @Horriblehistoree @FaceofSpades) seemed keen to have a thread to support each other in reaching our weight loss/body shape/fitness/health goals.

All petites are welcome on this thread, but it seemed like it would be particularly helpful to have a corner of Mumsnet for those of us who are petite/small framed and officially a 'healthy weight' but know we feel/look better a few pounds lighter (which would still be within a healthy weight/not underweight).

Maybe we can share goals, progress, struggles, things that are working, etc.? It would also be lovely to hear from any petites who are at a 'happy weight' and what you are doing to be successful.

Someone (maybe @FaceofSpades?) posted some helpful thoughts on the thread yesterday.

Please share how you all think this thread could be helpful.

Feel free to share as much or little as you like. Height, current weight, goal weight or other body measurements, nutrition, calories, exercise, NSV, etc.

Yes I am petite and yes I'm aware of BMI. Many peoples 'ideal' or 'target' weights I've read (the thread is quite new) would put them at underweight. Hence the comment.

Hyperfocus on weight loss is not healthy, particularly when there's not much to lose. Come on, surely you can see how a thread like this encourages people with ED.

Perfect28 · 08/10/2024 06:34

@buckingmad by definition people who are overweight can afford to lose weight...

I don’t think anyone posting is going to make themselves underweight by hitting their target weight? I can get to 7 and a half stone before I’m classed as underweight according to BMI which we all know is a rubbish measurement anyway.

You’re a classic example of why this thread has been created. I would never dream of telling someone fat they have an eating disorder or comment on what they are eating.

I’m 5ft1 and 8 stone 4. Pre babies I was 7 stone 7 and super fit! I got back to 8 stone after first baby and I’m currently stuck at 8 stone 4 having given birth 9 months ago. I’ve got zero time for exercise so that’s something I need to prioritise. I’m also still breastfeeding so tbh that extra few pounds is very likely extra boob!

I think tbh I’m less bothered about the scales and more what I see in the mirror. I want to tone up.

You're doing so well, especially with a young baby and breastfeeding.

Yes, I also am more focused on what I see in the mirror/clothes fitting. I'm trying to prioritise protein and some strength workouts at home (but I appreciate you haven't got time for that at the moment).

It's lovely to have you here and hopefully we can all support each other (in a place where we all understand that these targets are quite sensible for our height and frame!).

I’m not sure there’s any more “hyper focus” on weight loss here as there is on any other weight loss thread? The amount of threads where people are using weight loss injections! That and potential long term effects worries me more than a bit of intermittent fasting. I have male cousins that do intermittently fasting and are 6ft plus with huge muscles. I bet no one is commenting on their “eating disorder”

LakelandDreams · 08/10/2024 07:02

Right, I'm off to Body Pump this morning. I'm calorie tracking but finding it hard as 1500 is maintenance for me. I really need 1200 net to lose weight. I'm trying to focus more on macros though and getting enough protein. I think I'll leave it a week before I weigh myself again.

Radiolala · 08/10/2024 07:30

@LakelandDreams have fun!

@Perfect28 report the thread if you are concerned.

This thread has eating disorder plastered all over it.

🤣🤣

Go smash it 💥

I'm off for another run this morning 🌅

iloveshetlandponies · 09/10/2024 13:59

How is everyone doing today

I have ran 3 days in a row

I struggle not to snack in the evenings though. I love eating biscuits / sweets etc when watching tv after dinner

I need to just stop that don't I

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 09/10/2024 20:01

Well done on the running @iloveshetlandponies

I've done a Caroline Girvan workout every day this week.

Have you had any biscuits/snacks yet this eve?

Oh do you do the Caroline for a workouts at home or in the gym? I have been thinking of doing CG but would need to do it in the gym, not sure how it would work. Xx

Radiolala · 09/10/2024 20:32

I managed the gym and a swim yesterday but haven’t moved much at all today! Ate well though!

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 09/10/2024 20:49

@Helpisneeded100 I do them at home (I don't use very heavy weights yet!) but I think some people do them in the gym. There's a CG thread in the exercise section of Mumsnet. You could ask on there if anyone does them in the gym?

Can I join plz? I’m 4’11” and was 7st 2lbs before I had my children. Current weight is 8st 10lbs. I just don’t feel comfortable at this weight. It seems to be getting harder to lose weight plus choatic weekends with the kids mean that I end up having one too many treats!

My plan in intermittent fasting (6pm - 12pm) and calorie counting. It is a struggle, especially when I don’t see the scales moving and feel demotivated 😞

Gingerisgoodforyou · 09/10/2024 22:25

I'd also like to join! 5'2" and 54.5kg. I'd like to be back at 50kg if possible, but tbh I'd mainly like to tone up a bit. Since kids and peri menopause I seem to have turned from petite to apple shaped, which I don't think is healthy or attractive.

I've never dieter so not really sure where to start, but going to try 16:8 and increasing Excerise. I've recently got a fit bit and was appaled some days I only do 5000 steps (very sedentary job and wfh).

Following for tips

tigerbear · 09/10/2024 22:47

Please may I join?
I’m 5ft 2 and in April, I was 9.5 stone, heaviest I’ve ever been. All my weight is around my middle, and seems to take ages to come off.
I’m 47 and in Peri, which doesn’t help.

My happy weight is 8 stone, which is my goal.
Since April, have lost a stone by low carb intermittently, fasting intermittently, and weight training.

fashionqueen0123 · 09/10/2024 22:59

I need to loose a few pounds too.
Im usually about 7st 2/3 but I’ve gone up to 7st 10/11 due to some meds increasing my appetite and I’ve eaten so much rubbish. I’m now off them so hoping that helps. It’s all round my stomach otherwise I wouldn’t be bothered! I also need to to do some exercise. Any workout ideas I can do at home are welcome. I will check out the Caroline lady. I used to try to do couch to 5k but not sure I want to do that again.

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 10/10/2024 06:18

Welcome @Goodvibesonly @Gingerisgoodforyou @tigerbear @fashionqueen0123 (Hope I've not missed anyone, but all are welcome.)

Well done - that's great progress that you've lost a stone since April!

If you're new to weight/strength exercises, don't be put off by the weights Caroline uses! I use a tiny fraction of the weights that she uses.

Some other YouTube workouts I dip in and out of are Olivia Lawson (mixture of walking, cardio & weights), Heather Robertson, Team Body Project and The Girl with the Pilates Mat. But I'm quite new to trying home workouts, so also keen to hear recommendations of anything that anyone else uses?

@Gingerisgoodforyou I was thinking the other day that I’m now an apple or barrel shaped! I have no definition.

JustAGalWhoLovesBooks · 10/10/2024 07:35

This is the perfect thread for me! I'm 36, 5 foot 3 and 9 stone 3. Ideally I'd love to be under 9 stone. I work out 5x a week so exercise isn't a problem. Eat relatively healthy but the evening demons get me. Small children and full time job. So when 7pm hits, it's all about the wine and chocolate! Not sure how to manage that really it's like all my hard work goes out the window. I've had 2x c sections so have tummy fat that even with all the exercise won't shift (probs the sugar...).

LoudSnoringDog · 10/10/2024 07:41

Can I please join??

I think I'm probably the heaviest here..... I'm 4ft 11 and have gone up to 70kg in the past year. I believe it must be menopause.

I want to get down to about 53kg...

I feel like I'm heading this way

I'm going to give it six months of consistent exercise / reasonably healthy eating and then I'm not averse to maybe getting lipo or something
