Petite support for losing a few pounds/getting to our 'happy' size

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 06/10/2024 16:13

Hi all. Following on from the thread that @SprayPaint started yesterday, a few of us (@Waiting9 @Horriblehistoree @FaceofSpades) seemed keen to have a thread to support each other in reaching our weight loss/body shape/fitness/health goals.

All petites are welcome on this thread, but it seemed like it would be particularly helpful to have a corner of Mumsnet for those of us who are petite/small framed and officially a 'healthy weight' but know we feel/look better a few pounds lighter (which would still be within a healthy weight/not underweight).

Maybe we can share goals, progress, struggles, things that are working, etc.? It would also be lovely to hear from any petites who are at a 'happy weight' and what you are doing to be successful.

Someone (maybe @FaceofSpades?) posted some helpful thoughts on the thread yesterday.

Please share how you all think this thread could be helpful.

Feel free to share as much or little as you like. Height, current weight, goal weight or other body measurements, nutrition, calories, exercise, NSV, etc.

I had a timehop of 8.13 come up from 6 years ago in the past week. Probably the last time I saw an 8!
I was late 30s and wasn't lifting weights then, so I don't think I'm going back there easily.
I hit and stuck at the mid-9s in 2020, was boredom picking and lost my functional walking and I haven't got below that since, but since building my strength up, I'm a better shape now than at that lighter weight.

February is being somewhat of a write-off for focus, but my waist is holding steady at less than it had been last summer.

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 16/02/2025 09:26

@Swearwolf That's really encouraging that your measurements are changing - well done. I've not taken measurements but maybe I should.

Welcome @Bexstar82

Well done to those of you who have seen progress this week. It's really encouraging to hear that some of you have finally seen some change (even if it's only a pound - we all understand how slow it can be!).

@BogRollBOGOF That's really interesting to hear how your shape is better but at the same weight. Well done! Can you notice it in the way your clothes fit, etc? What's your workout schedule?

I've been doing Caroline Girvan workouts for a few months (along with tracking calories, etc). I haven't lost a pound and not really sure that my shape is changing, but I haven't taken any measurements yet.

Morning everyone.

Well today I face the in-laws shortly for a lunch time meal at the pub. Just reading all the great progress you've made and it has encouraged me to think I'll be choosing a lighter option today!!!

I will be taking the plunge on Saturday and weighing myself as it is about time!. I have got my monthly ATM so it won't be an accurate one.

Will get hubby in the garage later to find the weights and dig out my Jillian Michaels ripped in 30 from back in the day!

Happy Sunday xx

I do quite a lot!
I have a weekly heavy gym session (signed in at DH's gym)
A circuits class (so lighter weights, more reps, a bit more aerobic)
A lighter general fitness class which is good for a recovery day and general mobility and agility.
Running 2-4 times a week generally up to 10mi while training for about 3 HMs per year. I try to keep a base of 10k fitness as it's easy to increase milage from that.
I add other bits and pieces like yoga (youtube) and swimming more casually.

As my DCs have got older, the incidental movement like briskly powerwalking the school run in the nick of time has gone down. They also used to do more activities in walking distance.

I've noticed since going to the gym regularly about 9m ago, the weights at circuits is going up quite quickly too. I seem to have gained about 2kg, but it does feel like lean muscle. I'm not going soft like I did in 2020.

Vallan · 16/02/2025 20:18

I'm stuck at 8.11

I'm doing 15k steps every day, I run 20 miles a wewk and do 3 hours of weight training.

I'm eating only 3 times a day, no booze, no snacks.

I'm fed up!

I've ordered some protein shake things, I'm going to replace my lunch and dinner with those, as I must be under calculating my calories (at least I'm still getting lots of protein with the shakes).

Last year I was a much more comfortable 8.5 so it's creeping up.

Bexstar82 · 16/02/2025 20:33

I don't know if it is now because I'm early 40s but I could just cut cals in my 30s and it would just work.
I need to try and exercise more too.
Week 7 tomorrow so onwards and scales downwards lol

Storynanny1 · 16/02/2025 23:13

We are going to watch the Bridget jones film tomorrow and I’m not buying popcorn….

Lowin2024 · 17/02/2025 08:28

Yeah, I remember the days of my 20s and early 30s where I could cut the snacks and I’d lose a few lbs in a couple of weeks! Now, I cut the snacks, and intermittent fast, and calorie count, and work out more and it will not shift. I am 100% eating fewer calories now than I ever have with almost no results.

After my glorious 8.13 weigh in last week I was 9.1 the next day and have stayed there! It obviously cannot be fat but for some reason it’s water or hormonal weight.

Bexstar82 · 17/02/2025 09:13

I do feel some strange comfort in the fact it isn't just me.
I don't know if a shake type/juice evening meal replacement would have any effect at this stage!!!

Swearwolf · 18/02/2025 08:36

Same happens here - 0.5kg fluctuation even on the same day! I always weigh in the same spot and always naked, it has to be water weight. I'm trying to look for long-term change, I've been tracking quite consistently for a year now and have a wobbly but ultimately downward line on my graph.

Any time I get disheartened and want to give up I just think if I do give up, I'll get to summer and be heavier and I'll kick myself. If I keep going, I might only be a little bit lighter but I will be in a better place than I would be otherwise.

Lowin2024 · 18/02/2025 12:42

Yes I’m tracking on a graph too and my line is so wobbly, sometimes up and down as much as 1.2kg in a single day but it is still down compared to when I started at Christmas. I also think some days I should just give up but I think if I do I’ll put back on the 2kg I definitely seem to have lost.

Swearwolf · 18/02/2025 13:09

Yes, that's exactly where I'm at too. Keep going!

Bexstar82 · 18/02/2025 21:26

I've had some Collin the caterpillar cake. I'm not going to lie it was truly to die for after not having cake for so long.

Back to it tomorrow ladies x

ObelixtheGaul · 19/02/2025 02:19

I've had a heavy cold this week. You'd think my body would crave healthy food, wouldn't you, but for some reason when I am under the weather, unless I lose my appetite entirely, all I want is crap. Doesn't help that my sense of taste has suffered. All the veg tastes of nothing very much. Fruit is better, but I have been eating rubbish cake and biscuits, because they taste of something. Not at work this week (I am a TA, it's half term) so have given into cold and vegged on the sofa. I don't want to get on the scales.

Swearwolf · 19/02/2025 06:10

@ObelixtheGaul it sounds like you need this break, I'd just go with it and not weigh yourself until you're feeling better. Sorry to hear your half term is ruined by cold!

I'm full of period and also feeling sluggish, haven't run at all this week only yoga. Half term isn't helping as the kids are home! Back to it next week.

That's so lovely of you to say. Cheered me up when I feel like a fat, lazy, snivelly lump.

Bexstar82 · 22/02/2025 12:00

So for the very first time in months I've got on the scales.
I am weighing in at 8st 9lbs. I wouldn't like to say what it was before I started to cut calories at the beginning of January.
My normal is 8 ish so I'd really like to get back there.
I think it is going to take some time but at least we have all started this before summer.
I absolutely can't move a ring that is stuck on my one on my fingers and that is the goal to get back to normal and try and remove it!!!!
Happy Saturday ladies. Hopefully next week it will be easier with kids back at school x

TheBirdintheCave · 22/02/2025 13:39

Going to my brother's house next week (where the scales are) so I'll see how much I've lost then. Unfortunately my Zumba teacher has been on honeymoon for three weeks so I've missed out on that BUT I have been exceptionally disciplined in terms of portion sizes.

Also we nearly have the office/gym set up! So I'm planning on using the rowing machine and weights more when I get some downtime at work or maybe factoring in ten minutes of rowing before lunch.

Bexstar82 · 22/02/2025 13:54

We've got this. Even half a lb a week and it will show by summer.

Let's go!

Swearwolf · 23/02/2025 12:30

I've lost absolutely nothing on the scales, I've fallen off the wagon a bit with both food and alcohol, but this morning I noticed in the mirror that my shoulders look... less meaty. Slightly more defined. I'm happy with that!

Bexstar82 · 24/02/2025 17:38

I have fucked right up today. Met a friend and I had a double boost chocolate bar and dare I say it a glass of prosecco and it was heavenly.
I am now going to cook a healthy dinner.
Be back on the wagon tomorrow x

I had one of those days on Sunday. My glass of prosecco turned into near enough the whole bottle, I made toast and then stood eating pieces of cheese with smears of chutney on them. As well as a packet of mini cheddars, a square of dark chocolate and 3 meals...

Not ideal but it's only one day, it is often easily more than a day so that's a positive.

The scales don't really seem to be moving but I have had several people ask me if I've lost weight.

Waiting9 · 25/02/2025 09:18

Hi guys, it’s been a while since I checked in. I weighed myself this morning and I’m at 51.9kg. Really happy with this, I have 4kg left to my goal weight.

I feel like my body fat is a bit higher than it used to be when I was this weight so don’t feel like I’m where I want to be just yet. I’m trying to exercise more and get into weight lifting.

Bexstar82 · 25/02/2025 11:24

@PPickingmyselfup

Yes it was one day. I am back on it today. This last 9lbs is going to be really difficult and if I get to that to think that'll be at the heavier end of my slimmer in my 30s days!!!!!

Cheese, chutney and toast now that is pure rebel hands down awesome!. I bet it was to die for xx

Let's see what happens this week. I would be so happy even with a 1lb!!!
