Following on from Joyous June 2024

Crumbs how can it be July already? 😮 Anyways, a new month provides the opportunity to embrace a fresh new start & start new habits. If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am now maintaining around 8st 12lb. I find this weight is sustainable and easy to maintain. If I can do it anyone can 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

SW 8/7 64.9kg
WoW 63.9kg
TW 56kg

1 kg down from my last weigh in 👍 I’m finding the holidays difficult, too much distraction from the things that work for me: intermittent fasting, v limited alcohol, drinking lots more water. But I’m encouraged to be heading in the right direction 🎉

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 24/07/2024 22:16

Right, WOW. I need to get back to regular calorie counting and posting here for accountability.

Still 10st 4lbs today. That’s the same as pre-summer holiday. New goal 10st.

Today’s menu

B - boiled egg & toast
L - home made tomato and lentil soup, satsuma, 2 falafel & humous, pack of quavers
D - crab risotto

snacks - mini fake-Aldi calypso, slice of toast

exercise was a bit of a disaster. Started a bodycombat class, but it was a new release I wasn’t keen on, plus it was really hot and muggy. I gave up half way through.

Congratulations on the losses @Newname2308 and @LegoTherapy Good luck with the next week @LemonDrizzle23

right must go log today’s food in nutracheck!

LemonDrizzle23 · 25/07/2024 19:32

Thank you @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo - Also Crab risotto sounds delicious!

Meals today:

  • fish finger sandwiches
  • chicken chorizo and veg tray bake with rice
  • popcorn and chocolate at the cinema, which was not part of the plan, but very tasty.

Spent the day with DS, first at a playground play date, then the cinema. Not many steps for me today, but a lovely day together for us.

LegoTherapy · 26/07/2024 00:29

I hit the heady low of 55.25kg or 8st 9lb today! Well, yesterday seeing as it's past midnight. My lowest of all time around 13 months ago was 8st 3lbs after the traumatic 2 week wait pathway. I don't know where I'm heading really. I feel fat no matter what I weigh but I'll probably stay around this weight.
Does anyone have those scales that measure BMI, muscle mass, water, visceral fat, sub-cutaneous fat etc and give your body age? I recently discovered my scales do this on the app. I doubt the accuracy because it gives my body age as over 20 years younger than I am 🤣 those scales have seen me naked and should know better!
Holiday in the morning so I should be asleep already. No wow for me next week and I'll be full of chips and ice cream so probably best anyway! Good luck to those who will be wowing. You've got this!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 26/07/2024 07:50

Enjoy your holiday @LegoTherapy Your scales sound a bit fancy. Ours does muscle mass and BMI, but I don’t often use that function.

sounds like a lovely day @lemondrizzle.

I’ve managed to stay within my calories since Wednesday, but poor on the exercise. I was all set to do a body combat on Wednesday, but I just couldn’t get into it, in part because it was just a bit muggy and everything seemed to require twice as much energy for half the the impact. Yesterday I just couldn’t be bothered. 🙄 I know just need to get back into a routine, but easier said than done!

PatienceOfEngels · 27/07/2024 10:39

In the middle of holiday so not able to weigh myself but have been eating all the food!

Self catering and have had lots of cheese, chocolate, too much pizza, too many snacks! Partly out of boredom and partly out of stress (DC are bouncing off the walls).

However, still alcohol free and have managed to do almost daily yoga (mostly outside) and get in lots of steps (10K+ everyday and often 16K+) with country and coastal walks.

Will catch up with the thread when we're back home. Have a good week everyone.

LemonDrizzle23 · 27/07/2024 10:46

Daily outside yoga and coastal walks sounds lovely @PatienceOfEngels

Well I clearly alerted the universe when I said I was going to aim for an exemplary week 😂 Woke up on Thursday feeling like I'd pulled a calf muscle. Limping yesterday, still limping today. Don't know what I've done to it. Know I have to just rest, but it's very annoying. Was planning a 4K walk while DS was at his gym class.

So, very few steps will be done this week I would guess. Will just focus on diet instead. Hope everyone is enjoying the start of the weekend. It's glorious and sunny here.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 27/07/2024 11:48

Oh that’s so annoying @LemonDrizzle23 that’s the kind of thing I’ve had a lot over the last few years!

Walks and yoga sound great @PatienceOfEngels and the steps will help counter the pizza!

I went 200 over my calories yesterday 😳. I blame DH for putting Pringles in front of me. Not good as we are eating out a bit this weekend. But I’ve been running around doing deep clean housework all morning and planning to squeeze in a body combat class before lunch so that should help!

talkingdeadscot · 27/07/2024 18:52

Bit late for WOW but I'll do it anyway just to keep accountable.

SW - 93kg
CW - 62.5kg
GW - 55kg

So a gain of 0.5kg. I'm definitely not going to reach my goal of getting to 60kg by the end of July. But, I have learnt a few things.....

a) I cannot have treats in the house. I cannot think that I'll be sensible after a year of dieting because I can't (apparently). It turns out my stomach can still contain 6 Viennese whirls in one go with no trouble at all.
b) Food is still my avoidance strategy. When I don't want to do something or I'm procrastinating or I'm just bored and faffing I still turn to food.
c) I still deal with stress by eating.

These habits are clearly deeply ingrained despite willpower, therapy and growing older and 'wiser'. Eurgh. Onwards and upwards.

LemonDrizzle23 · 30/07/2024 11:22

Well this week has been a shit show diet and exercise quite frankly! I've had an Injured calf, so I've done a lot of sitting around and that sitting around has been accompanied by mindlessly shoving food into my mouth. Don't even want to get on the scales.

A number of share bars / bags of crisps have made their way into the house, which I know I shouldn't have around (I feel your pain @talkingdeadscot ). And all my apps are reminding me that my number of steps has been drastically lower for the last seven days 🙄 yes thank you, I know.

On the plus side, I've ordered new trainers, which are supposed to be very comfy for walking. Also I've managed to unravel the internal elastic waistband in my favourite pair of work out leggings! It's been twisted up at the back for weeks and I nearly cut them open today to try and fix them! I might hurt put some stitches in them to prevent it happening again.

I managed to finally reign in the eating yesterday. And my calf is feeling a lot better, although I still think I'll avoid my regular walking pattern for a few more days. So I'm feeling a bit better about life.

Looking forward to a fresh start in August and quite frankly writing off July as a bad month! I hope everyone else is doing better. Or if you're not doing better, at least know someone else is in the shit show with you....

greenleaveseverywhere · 30/07/2024 21:21

Hi everyone,

July has been a very up and down month for me. Today was an absolute write off and I've gotta say I'm excited for a new month and new thread to hopefully bump up my motivation.

Going to try to not beat myself up for today. Last day of the month tomorrow and I'm going out with a bang.

My plan for tomorrow:

Water fast until at least midday.
Healthy salad with protein for lunch
Healthy tea with my kids at 6pm
Fast again til the morning

LegoTherapy · 30/07/2024 23:28

Evening all. I'm on holiday and won't be able to WOW in the morning. I'll do it Friday instead but might not be a good result. I'm walking less, eating less, drinking less water, snacking less, and sleeping less on holiday than I normally would so it will be interesting to see what the scales say on my return. The holiday has kicked my chocolate habit for which I'm grateful. I've been eating big bags of Revels recently and skipping meals. I am missing my Greek yogurt and fruit lunches. It's all chips or pizza although we had an M&S train picnic today which was a sandwich, some fruit, some crisps, some sweets and therefore all the food groups 😁
I'm sure holidays are supposed to be full of more food, more sleep, more drinking etc but my holidays never work out that way!
Fingers crossed for good results for those waving goodbye to July in the morning. Here's to an Awesome August!

greenleaveseverywhere · 31/07/2024 06:12

Morning everyone,

After a disastrous day yesterday, I'm determined to go out of July with a bang.

plan for today-.-

Fasting til lunch.

2 very healthy meals

Fasting from 6pm

My head is already telling me I'm going to fail. Help me find the motivation???

Newname2308 · 31/07/2024 07:55

SW 8/7 64.9kg
WoW 63.8kg
TW 56kg

only a loss of 0.1kg over the course of a week, but I gain and lose over that time so I’ll count it as maintenance. I think I need a couple of weeks of being stricter to see if it makes a difference!

LegoTherapy · 31/07/2024 08:03

@greenleaveseverywhere I think if you stick to your plan today then you'll find tomorrow easier to manage for a great start to August. I'm not sure if your plan is your usual way of doing things but I'd find too much deprivation a risk in terms of being more hungry when I do eat. A slide in to August rather than a big jump.

I'm sat in a hotel agog at how much people can put away and also at how so many people can't use a knife and fork correctly. Much scraping of cutlery which sets my teeth on edge. Too much sensory overload this holiday. I've had 4 pancakes with a fuck-ton of golden syrup and a cup of tea. I used to be able to eat pastries plus veggie sausages, hash browns, beans and toast but now I can't. In a way I feel quite sad about it to not be able to make the most of a hotel breakfast.

Hope those weighing are successful but if not, nevermind, keep going and you'll get there.

greenleaveseverywhere · 31/07/2024 08:42

@LegoTherapy

You're right. I want to enter August feeling great and today can definitely be a head start if I do it right.

I am always SOO shocked at how much people put away at hotel breakfast buffets. It's actually insane.

My morning fast is going well so far. Trying to drink 1.5L before I eat.

Before joining the new thread (thanks @TheRealHousewife ) I will add my WOW.

SW - 93kg
GW - 55kg
CW - 62kg

So I end July on 62kg which is a loss of 0.4kg for the whole of July. At least its not a gain and I'll count that as practice maintenance.

See you all on the August thread where I might just aim for maintenance again and see where it takes me.

PatienceOfEngels · 01/08/2024 09:15

Thanks, it's taken a year but definitely worth it x

LegoTherapy · 02/08/2024 23:07

@talkingdeadscot that's an amazing amount to lose. You lost more than my 9 year old weighs! And in only a year! How do you feel compared to when you were 31kg heavier?

I've been told twice today by a random member of staff in the supermarket and a school mum friend that I am "lovely and slim" which does not correspond to what I see in the mirror. God those hotel mirrors are awful. I look lumpy as cold porridge in them 😩 I'm not sure I look any different to when I was 13kg heavier but I must do because I had to buy new clothes. I just don't feel any different inside. Being on holiday surrounded by svelte younger and older women made me feel huge. I've always had a belly. It must be genetic because my mum and daughter are the same. My Dd weighs 6 stone not-a-lot and still has a belly she can pinch. It sucks. I don't think I'll ever feel slim or think I look it either <sigh>
