Following on from Joyous June 2024

Crumbs how can it be July already? 😮 Anyways, a new month provides the opportunity to embrace a fresh new start & start new habits. If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am now maintaining around 8st 12lb. I find this weight is sustainable and easy to maintain. If I can do it anyone can 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

My weight is just going up and up. Once I start having treats whether it's for football or birthdays or celebrations, I just spiral out of control!

Rained the whole day yesterday so didn't get out for my walk or yoga until the evening. My body is feeling a bit achey and creaky from more movement the last 2 weeks but in a good way.

B-boiled egg and rye toast, coffee
S-apple pie with cream
L-sour dough bruschetta
D-chicken and leek pie with carrots and potatoes

rainbow616 · 13/07/2024 08:16

@GameOfJones I know, I know 😩 I think it's just because I lost half a stone in the first week and even though I wasn't expecting a massive loss every week, I was hoping I would be losing an extra couple of pounds every week after when I've only lost one pound in three weeks 🤦‍♀️ but onwards and hopefully downwards...🤣🤣 15lbs is great, but must be frustrating that it's since January. Have you tried changing diet technique? That's what I did, as I was totally stuck on the same weight for such a long time, and then all of a sudden I had lost half a stone in a week. My husband said I should weigh out what I've lost in sugar or something and hold it and then I'll appreciate how much I've lost

Trixiefirecracker · 13/07/2024 08:24

I’ve lost three and a half stone in 8 months. I have cut out mostly fat, diary and bread. I eat a plant based diet mostly but will a tiny bit of fish here and there. Lots of nutritious soups, stews and curries. No cake/biscuits/crisps. Weirdly I actually love it now and feel really healthy compared to how I did feel. Ramen noodles is a favourite and green soup with kale, rocket leek and potatoes.

LemonDrizzle23 · 13/07/2024 08:34

Well I am having as close to a period as my body ever gets on the mini pill. Took me quite by surprise and my weight has shot up almost overnight! So I'm hoping it's period related and it will all go away again at some point!

But yeah, it only takes a lack of attention and a few treats in a week to see no progress. Very annoying!

LegoTherapy · 14/07/2024 14:36

Hi all, how is everyone doing? I've been very lax but managed to lose over a kilo 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm sat here watching tv and eating my weight in biscoff biscuits. I'm not in the zone at all but am down to less than 56.5kg. My goal is 55.5kg but I really can't be bothered.
I've got some jeans of DD's on vinted and a potential buyer wanted measurements. They are an 8. The measurements seemed big for an 8 so I tried them on and they are a little tight but they are skinny jeans but they fit! I'd be more excited if sizes were standardised. I'm nowhere near an 8 but it was a nice moment. They are from New Look if anyone would like a similar boost.
We go on holiday in 2 weeks and I'm worrying about food. I think I'll be living on chips and pizza. We are staying with very distant relatives for a couple of nights and I'm worried a great deal about eating with our foibles around food.

PatienceOfEngels · 14/07/2024 15:28

Well done @LegoTherapy

I am definitely not in the zone food wise. I have healthy meals planned out which goes well but then stuff my face with crap when no one's looking 😂

Today so far:
-boiled egg and rye toast, coffee
-sultana biscuit thing and 2 sweets
-2 slices rye toast with butter/cream cheese and roast pepper
-chunk of cheese
-herbal tea, mini pepper
-dinner will be chicken risotto (DH is cooking) followed by apple pie and cream.

I will not go out and buy junk to eat during the football. I will not go out to buy junk to eat during the football. I will not go out and buy junk to eat during the football.

I went for a pre-breakfast walk (saw a green woodpecker), dragged the kids out for a 2 hour walk as they were driving me nuts (on 17,500 steps!) and just did a 25 minute yoga video outside. Can feel the impact of a week of daily yoga in m upper arms, pecs and abs atm.

Football plan - water, water, herbal tea.

And may make some banana bread 😂

LemonDrizzle23 · 14/07/2024 15:38

I am not in the zone either. Apparently I've put on 1.5kg since Thursday! That really can't be right. I'm hoping it's period related. I'm puffy and I can't get my rings off. But it doesn't inspire me to make good choices. Definitely have "start again on Monday" going round my head, which isn't helpful!

We have beef nachos for tea, but I'm using lean mince and no sour cream. So hopefully won't be too bad calorie-wise.

Just feels like there's a reason / excuse every week at the moment.

PatienceOfEngels · 15/07/2024 09:00

@LemonDrizzle23 my period always sneaks up on me somehow. I was really impatient this weekend with DC (and have also put on 1kg+ in a week) and whaddya know? Period started this morning.

Plan for today:
-boiled egg and rye toast
-pear, banana bread
-chicken pasta salad
-meatballs with red wine gravy, rice, broccoli

Have one DC home with me today so am less likely to binge rubbish and we're running down the supplies because we're off on holiday soon. Trying to plan how to use stuff up before we go.

Have already done a walk this morning and will pop out again with DC later. Today am tidying up the house.

GameOfJones · 15/07/2024 16:40

@rainbow616 it's a tricky one. I am doing intermittent fasting which has actually made me feel great, despite the weight loss being slow I've felt lots of other benefits from it. Less bloated, clearer headed, sleeping better etc. So I was of the opinion that if I felt good, and I was losing weight (albeit really slowly) then this would be a sustainable approach for me. BUT I definitely need to look at what I'm consuming in my eating window. I do on average 16-18 hours of fasting a day then have a 6-8 hour time slot where I eat. Without looking at calories I'm consuming in that eating window, the intermittent fasting isn't enough on its own.

I go on holiday in a month so I'd really like to lose 5 to 7lbs by then if I can. So a concerned effort now!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 15/07/2024 18:19

Afternoon all. Struggling a little to get back in the zone post-holiday, and I think jet lag is playing havoc with my appetite/hunger. Had hoped to get back on the exercise today, but I feel totally wiped out. Hoping to be a bit more back to normal for WOW. Started calorie counting again today, so by Wednesday will have a more accurate picture of how much I put on, and what I now have to lose. I’ve come down around 5lbs since last Thursday, so that’s definitely water retention after the flight I reckon.

LemonDrizzle23 · 16/07/2024 06:51

@PatienceOfEngels It's mad isn't it! And annoying when they just show up out of the blue. Well I'm 0.9kg lighter overnight. Which obviously also isn't a "real" loss either. So maybe things are heading back to normal again...

Welcome back @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo Getting back into it after a holiday is always hard, but jet lag makes it extra tricky.

School breaks up for summer at the end of the week for us. Looks like the weather will be good for all the end of term fun stuff, so that's a bonus. Then we're on to a mad mixture of summer camps, grandparents, play dates and a short beach break.

PatienceOfEngels · 16/07/2024 08:09

@LemonDrizzle23 I wish I could blame an irregular period but I'm just scatty and forget 😂 I should set a reminder on my phone 3 days before my next cycle is due to start to remind me to chill and stay away from other people! I get terrible exhaustion (falling asleep in the afternoon and evening tired) and then rage for the 2-3 days before I come on.

@GameOfJones if I do very relaxed IF (12-12) then I definitely lose weight, especially if no UPF during eating window but I find it so difficult to not eat in the evenings. Once I crack I then can't stop and the next day it's even harder to resist.

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo go easy on yourself - I always think I need a holiday to get over my holiday!

Really feeling in holiday mode atm. Gentle pottering around the house. Have already done a pre-breakfast walk and yoga outside (absolutely beautiful out there atm). Catching up on washing as need to get packed for our holiday away. Staying at home as much as humanly possible as there's a huge festival in our city this week so everywhere is packed. Can't avoid a trip to the supermarket though. Also trying to use up all the perishable food in the house before we head off!

Plan for today:
-boiled egg and rye toast, coffee
-pears
-chicken wraps with lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, garlic sauce
-burgers with left over salad veg (tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, pepper

LemonDrizzle23 · 17/07/2024 07:17

WOW time has come around again already! This week has been a bit mad weight-wise. Have gone from 91.8 up to 93.3 and back down to 91.5!
Feeling puffy during your period is a real thing. Bodies are weird.

Anyway a small loss of 0.3kg, but a loss overall.

SW: 97.5
CW: 91.5
10%: 88

I wanted to see 90kg-ish by the end of July, which still feels doable. So that is still my aim.

Good luck everyone.

GameOfJones · 17/07/2024 07:21

Hi all,

I've stayed the same this week, which is unsurprising as I wasn't very well on Sunday and Monday and pretty much stayed in bed or on the sofa. Even yesterday I took it very gently and just went on a short walk for exercise although my food choices were better.

SW: 15st 1lb
CW: 14st

Plan for the day is:

L - hummus on sourdough and raspberries
D - jacket potato, cottage cheese, spring onion, side salad
S - yoghurt, peach, nuts

PatienceOfEngels · 17/07/2024 07:35

WOW - no change but since currently on period I'm taking that as a loss!

CW 72.4kg
SW 77kg (beginning Oct 23)
GW 68kg

Got down to 69kg in February though so still 3.4kg up on then, and haven't got back to my pre-holiday weight of 71kg in April. And now just about to go on another holiday...

Ah well. Movement is going well (daily yoga of about 20 minutes, minimum 10,000 steps per day with a pre-breakfast walk - my average for the last 4 weeks is 12,000 per day). Meals are going well - home-cooked, balanced, good portion sizes. No booze. Daily Journalling.

Can still do better with snacking, evening eating, and less scrolling on my phone.

B-boiled egg and rye toast, coffee
S-pears
L-chicken salad sandwich on wholemeal bread
D-macaroni cheese with veg and meatballs (I'll take the meatballs out for me as they're not homemade. DH bought them and we have to use them before our break).

Currently trying to use everything up in the fridge before we go away!

PatienceOfEngels · 17/07/2024 08:13

Non-scale victories

Currently wearing shorts that didn't fit me last summer
18 months alcohol free
Highest daily average steps (over 4 weeks) since I got my Garmin 5 years ago (12,334)

talkingdeadscot · 17/07/2024 09:26

Morning all...... WOW

SW - 93kg
GW - 55kg
CW - 62kg

A STS for me this week. I've definitely lost interest in this weight loss malarkey. I only have just over a stone to go and feel like I might just stay here. I'm sick of calorie counting but I really don't know what the alternative is. Is it so bad to have a BMI of 26 in your 60's? The worry is that because I'm small I just don't need much food to maintain and my weight will creep up again. Maybe I'm just having one of those weeks and it'll all be okay in a few days. We'll see. Hope everyone else is doing okay

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/07/2024 15:29

WOW - 10 st 5 lbs. So only a pound up from before my holiday; I’m really pleased with that, especially as I’m on my period.

New goal of 10st for me. I was just over 11st at the beginning of the year, so I’d be really pleased to reach that. Just need to get back on the healthy eating and exercise!

today:

b - boiled egg, toast, tea
l - home made tomato and sweet potato soup, 2 x falafel with humous, quavers, satsuma
d - keema dish with rice
s - mint club (my hormones demanded it)

exercise - I have around 30 mins of shoulder strengthening exercise to do from my physio, so that’ll probably be it. I’ve been rubbish at doing it, so need to give it some attention as it will help with regular strength exercises

good work on the shorts @PatienceOfEngels ! That’s a good feeling.

agree on the period puffiness @LemonDrizzle23

hope you’re feeling a bit more positive soon @talkingdeadscot Would a different goal help? Exercise related. Ditching snacks or UPFs instead of counting calories?

talkingdeadscot · 20/07/2024 16:45

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo Not sure, I think after a year I'm just being petulant. I've had a terrible couple of days so I do need to think of something to try and help the situation. It's not like I can go back to eating how I was, so maybe it's just a case of trying to work out where to go from here. I can't exercise more as I have disabilities that limit me, I no longer eat UPF's and I don't drink but thanks for the suggestions. I'm wondering if intermittent fasting might work as a long term strategy for losing the last stone and then maintenance. I'm definitely scared of maintenance!

LemonDrizzle23 · 21/07/2024 21:52

Well I've had a very "meh" weekend food and exercise-wise. Eaten a load of distinctly average chocolate. Not worth the calories. Haven't made it to the gym, or really been particularly physical. Touch of dodgy stomach from a market sausage roll that I think had been sitting out too long possibly? Joy!

Tomorrow is the proper start of the summer hols. I've made an exercise plan. I've made a food plan.

Maybe I'll aim to make a post everyday til term starts again, to be more accountable.

Maybe the dodgy sausage roll will have saved me from a few chocolate calories 😂

LemonDrizzle23 · 22/07/2024 21:06

Today was very bread based after the dodgy stomach:

  • toast and baby bels
  • cheese and ham sandwich
  • peanut butter chicken and noodles
  • daim bar

Met my Apple Watch move goal, and did 13,500 steps.

LegoTherapy · 23/07/2024 07:44

I'm useless with this now but dropped to 56kg this morning which is my lowest weight for ages. I'm living mainly on homemade bread toast lately with the odd proper meals We had an unexpected death in the family last week so things are tricky right now and I've even less headspace for the thread. We go on holiday on Friday and I won't be watching what I eat but my food choices are limited when not at home and will mainly consist of chips and pizza and ice cream I'm sure. I won't be walking as much after today and tend to put a couple of pounds on but if I can get to under 56kg this week I'll be happy.
Hope everyone else is ok and making progress. If you're not then just keep plodding on and take it one meal at a time, you can do this.

LemonDrizzle23 · 23/07/2024 22:33

Sorry to hear about your family @LegoTherapy with that and the holiday coming up, it's completely understandable you not be in the right head space. I hope you enjoy your break though.

Reasonable (bread-y) day for me:

Eggs on toast
Fish finger sandwich and a peach
Chicken burger and corn on the cob
Daim bar
Met my apple move goal and did about 14,500 steps.

We'll see how WOW goes tomorrow. Feeling much more in control after my junky weekend, but it's the junky weekends that prevent all the bloody progress!

LemonDrizzle23 · 24/07/2024 06:59

Morning all. Time for WOW.

Slight gain for me this week. Had another week where I managed to get back on it for the last couple of days, but obviously that's not enough to cancel out the previous 5 days of snacking 🤦🏼‍♀️

SW: 97.5
CW: 91.8
10%: 88

Said I wanted to see 90kg by the end of July. Not sure that's going to happen now, but I'm going to try and have an exemplary week!

God luck to everyone.

LegoTherapy · 24/07/2024 10:34

Thank you.

Checking in for WOW finally with 55.35kg! My BMI is back to 21 and I'm very happy with that. Some will come back on over the holidays but at least I'm starting off low to allow for that.

Well done to those with a loss or a maintain if that's where you're at. Well done to the gainers too because you are here and doing something to improve your health even if that's a rather spiky graph of loss and gains over time. It's not linear so keep plodding on taking it one meal at a time if need be. You've got this and will succeed😊
