So as we are about to embark into 2024 and our year of fabulousness time for a new thread.

I’m going to begin in earnest next week when the gym is back open but I’m not eating as much this week and mucking out every day for fitness . Weirdly I’ve gone off sweet stuff, long may it last

Thank you, Gen and Life. I think it's a bit difficult to realise/accept how much invisible snacking or eating must have happening for this to make a difference. However, I can't indulge in regret as we need to make the most of what we have learned through doing this.

Planned review in 2, +4, then +8 weeks from now.

Gen - my memory of food in the US is that they soak everything in chlorinated water or add cinnamon to it!

2024Hackathon · 05/10/2024 22:26

DH and I are holding our drops but not progressing. I'm fortunate to hold mine given last week's business travel. I have auto-immune arthritis and I had a flare-up with a fair amount of swelling so my weight might be a little inflated.

We had a chat and what we want to do.

So, for now we're replacing our Saturday dinner with a shake. It's a small difference but I'll combine it with a modification to the meals we have.

Happierwithouthim · 08/10/2024 09:51

My update is my weight has dropped to 11st 7lbs this morning.

I'm attempting to increase my metformin to 500mg a day without having rumbly tummy.

Hopefully this combined with exercise & healthy eating will get me on the downward trend again.

Hack great commitment.
Yesterday I found ds's lunchbox in my car & turned out I gave him my salad. I got soup at deli counter instead.

Dinner was late so was half a njuda focaccia pizza

2024Hackathon · 08/10/2024 11:13

Happier - My update is my weight has dropped to 11st 7lbs this morning.

That's good news. I hope the downward trajectory continues at an appropriate rate for you.

Yesterday was a fairly tough Power Zone Max class. I got through it through very high cadence and relatively lower resistance because my cardiovascular system is in such good shape. However, In the same way that DH is planning on taking a de-load week and then starting another programme after this one finishes, I'm wondering about repeating this programme. This time around, I'd make a conscious effort to go for lower cadences and higher resistance or make it more even between loading my CV system and my muscles. Doing the same programme would help me to compare my performance and any progress.

Happierwithouthim · 08/10/2024 13:58

I'm obviously not scientifically minded because I only understood vaguely what you're saying. Different types of progress I'm thinking, different goals to dh.

I'm obviously not scientifically minded because I only understood vaguely what you're saying. Different types of progress I'm thinking, different goals to dh.

Different kinds of progress sums it up nicely. This isn't the way that it works but, roughly, I can produce a power output of 360 if I cycle at 100 revs a minute, at a resistance of 36.

Resistance goes up to 100. If I carry on not being able to cycle at a resistance of much above (say) 40, I won't be able to make much progress. If I rely on revs per minute, there's a limit has to how many revs I can sustainably cycle in a minute even at a resistance that's in the 20s. There's much more room for improvement if I can improve the resistance (takes more leg strength and muscle endurance).

DH is making progress with both cadence and resistance so he's looking to improve his output by building on both.

In other news, DH has now dropped 20lbs overall and reached a milestone that is important to him. I'm bouncing again but it's consistently under what used to be my floor and, today, I'm at a new low. I'll see how this sticks (or not).

Happierwithouthim · 14/10/2024 18:46

Thanks hack well done to your dh & hopefully the new low will stick.

I climbed a mountain in Oct 15 from the 'easy' side. Then I gained a lot of weight & a lot of life happened. Yesterday I climbed it from the 'hard' side. I'm delighted with my achievement as it's due to the progress I've made with my weight and my fitness that I was able to attempt it. A non scale victory if you will. Smile

2024Hackathon · 15/10/2024 11:42

Happier - that is an excellent NSV to report. It says a lot about your current weight and fitness.

DH was complaining yesterday that he can't see his progress because he didn't take photographs. I reminded him that he refused to take them because he said it was more like body shaming than benchmarking. He'd mentioned it again 2 weeks ago but didn't act.

Onwards and downwards for us all!

Happierwithouthim · 15/10/2024 17:57

Would he take measurements?

Happierwithouthim · 15/10/2024 17:57

I'm waiting for my waist to be half my height and then I'll be happy no matter what the scales says

Happierwithouthim · 15/10/2024 20:37

Did a strength and conditioning class with athletics club & made a pact with my neighbour to go weekly.

So Monday walk the dog/run with dog(didn't this week), Tues s&c Wed walk with bf Thurs I've an hour wait for ds, so could walk/run Fri off, Sat/Sun long run one day walk with bf the other.

There's my plan for autumn/winter

2024Hackathon · 18/10/2024 11:35

Nice accountability built into your plan, Happier.

I'm going to talk to DH about measurements and photographs again.

2024Hackathon · 19/10/2024 10:42

My new low and drop is sticking. It's slow progress but given I've spent 9months of the year bouncing within the same range, this is still progress and firmly below the floor of that bounce.

DH is continuing his weight loss. Small amount this week but it took him to the South side of his milestone and that was a morale boost for him.

2024Hackathon · 28/10/2024 09:58

I'm bouncing but still below where I was.

DH is still dropping small amounts but he's pleased that his progress is consistent.

Happierwithouthim · 28/10/2024 19:57

Normally get a drop when pms bloat disappears but no such luck this month Hmm

Is it stress and snacking?

That's a cool description though Grin

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/10/2024 07:43

Thanks I think it’s a northern thing

yes snacking, no proper lunch, boredom, peri, CBA no motivation. Got into it twice and was ill. Poor sleep (see peri)

feeling quite down.

however I’m off work and have had zero crisp and chocolate since Friday

DH still edging downwards.

I'm still bouncing but still below where I was. And, I've been very out of sorts for the past 2 weeks so I should recognise that I didn't gain and that's useful.

Happierwithouthim · 04/11/2024 19:13

Definitely hack that's my only saving Grace at the moment is I'm not gaining

It's one of those patience things…

I'm stupidly tired. I'm still stressed but that's not going away while I still have work and people to look after and, I'd be unhappy if either went away!

My NSV is that I'm adhering to activities that keep me fit. I should accept that this is where I am. I will continue with our current programme because it's working for DH.

2024Hackathon · 10/11/2024 17:23

Business travel this week so it will be good if I maintain and don't gain.

DH still moving downwards which it good news.

2024Hackathon · 24/11/2024 12:45

DH had an uptick of 7lbs last weekend. I had to talk him through the reality that this happens to me and then goes again. He didn't believe me but when he weighed in today, he's back down 6lbs and only 1lb up from where he was earlier this month.

I'm steady which reflects the business travel. I'm pleased because I picked up an injury when travelling and it really interfered with my exercise routine so it's good that I haven't gained.

Happierwithouthim · 25/11/2024 08:22

11st 6.5lbs this weekend
That's 3st 7.5lbs in two years.

Hoping I'll see 11st for my birthday end feb

Signed up for ten mile run in early feb so that I'll improve my training for that

Hope injury is minor
