So as we are about to embark into 2024 and our year of fabulousness time for a new thread.

I’m going to begin in earnest next week when the gym is back open but I’m not eating as much this week and mucking out every day for fitness . Weirdly I’ve gone off sweet stuff, long may it last

Weight stable. Rather a relief for this as there's a fair amount of stress at present and I've eaten far more chocolate than usual.

Weight stable is a great position to be in

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/08/2024 19:37

Fabulous happier
and weight stable is good

Still weight stable. Which, given other things that are happening and that I've been work travelling and away from home and the Peloton (various reasons) is OK.

Happierwithouthim · 10/08/2024 17:14

Good stuff hack I haven't weighed all week and was away for a lot of it, but no bloat and clothes fitting well so I'd say I'm ok

Gensola · 18/08/2024 03:07

Hi all! We are now in the USA, I can’t quite believe it! I can already see that weight loss efforts will have to be redoubled as things are so spread out and the food everywhere is in such huge portions. DH and I picked up his new bike (we both got bikes to try and get around without a car) and felt peckish so we ordered a drink and something described as a hummus and veg snack, it was a rectangular plate the size of a platter with about 6 deep fried pitta breads, piles of chopped veg and 3 huge pots of dips 😵‍💫 we ended up not finishing it and also unable to eat the dinner we had left ready haha.
How is everyone?

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/08/2024 08:13

Hey gen. Fab news you got there. That is a huge portion.
I’ve come back with some horrible headache bug. Been laid up for 2 days with a crippling headache.

Gen great to hear from you.
Cycling instead of driving will help in battle against bigger portions.

I'm up around 11st 8 at the moment after seeing 11st 3 flash on scales a few weeks ago. I'm not eating much but I know my water hasn't been great but I've made a conscious effort at that this week. Bought a Joseph Joseph dot bottle, 4 refills of that is 2400ml & I bought a 5l drum for under my desk at work, aim to be refilling it every couple of days.

2024Hackathon · 19/08/2024 17:58

So pleased the move has been smooth enough that you're settling in, Gensola.

Best wishes for remembering what reasonable food portions look like when you're surrounded by the normalisation of the frankly giant-sized versions.

Reporting in that I'm weight stable. Sometimes, I sigh, sometimes, I'm relieved. I occasionally wonder if I should try substituting meal replacements for my dinner to see if that changes anything.

2024Hackathon · 29/08/2024 22:23

I'm weight stable. DH is losing at a lb a week. I'd prefer to start reducing and I should think DH could lose 2lbs or so a week.

DH has a procedure next week. If that goes well and the biopsies etc. are clear then I plan to step up the weight loss regime for both of us.

Reluctantly, I'll need to look at substituting a meal for our dinner on 3 days a week.

Happierwithouthim · 29/08/2024 22:40

Substituting a meal* three times a week with what Hack?*

Gensola · 30/08/2024 03:22

Sorry to hear DH has a health situation ongoing hack

I got some new bathroom scales 6 days ago and the weight when I jumped on them was frankly horrifying 😵‍💫 down 5 pounds since then from sheer terror and the 38 degree heat every day 😅

DH has some meal replacement powders that make up into (to me) surprisingly palatable drinks. He has them for lunch. I'm considering whether it's easier to persuade him to have another one for dinner or if he'll agree to soup plus a salad.

My concern with the salad is that fitting in enough lean protein without overall raising the calories. It seems ridiculous to have to consider protein powders and meal replacement powders but it's similar to the NHS promoted method that people stick to for 8 weeks to reduce their liver fat before moving back to the soup, salad, lean protein etc.

DH needs to shift his liver fat and there's a fair amount of evidence behind the NHS method.

That sounds like quite a shock on every level. Well done on the 5lbs.

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/08/2024 07:31

If that’s what you need to shove it along hack then short term sounds good.
good luck for dh

38degrees gen. Sheesh

I think I am a bit trimmer some days. Menopause fat here but im
bot tracking as trying to eat well and mindfully

I have to move slowly as this year's big achievement has been to get his comfort | binge eating under control.

Assuming the best outcome from next week, at the risk of sounding manipulative, I want to nudge him towards behaviour that will improve his future health while his motivation is high.

It's only within the last 6 weeks that he agreed to a more structured use of the Peloton.

It's easier to consider having the same meals so he doesn't have feelings of deprivation or a drive to comfort eating. If he does, I'll rethink. But I know that he needs a metric or NSV that he can see to reset his image of himself. And that's why I'm trusting that an agreed 8 week schedule for the meal substitutions is an acceptable proposal that will deliver something he can understand and/or see.

Life get your ass in gear 119 days until 2025, plenty of time to make a difference

Gensola · 04/09/2024 04:20

Ooh 119 days … I need to do something with them!
day 2 now no booze/crisps/cake/biscuits and already feeling loads better. Did a long walk plus cycled 15 mins each way to Pilates.

Long day tomorrow but have packed my food:
egg and veg frittata with a little pot of leftover tofu salad for breakfast
orzo salad with chicken for lunch
apple and Lara bar for snacks

Dinner is a chicken and oregano bake with tomatoes and chickpeas through it which looks really yummy

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/09/2024 08:52

Gensola - you sound as if you've got a plan.

Life - I can do my best with supportive mumbles about how in a year's time you'll be really grateful to your present self for starting to have such a good grip on it from now.

DH had some post-procedure complications. I need to postpone my conversation with him about substituting 3 dinners a week with one of his meal replacements.

I'm weight stable.

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/09/2024 10:48

apprec the mumble all the same hack

Happierwithouthim · 05/09/2024 22:02

Even replacing the crisps with fruit/yogurt would be an improvement
