January 2024! Fresh start & develop new habits. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

WOW.

SW 74kg
CW 73.4kg
GW 61/62kg

It’s a loss, but not much of one considering I’ve been quite good and I’m doing dry January. I’ve also upped my gym sessions. Surely a daily wine deficit of 600 calories would do something?

DaisySnowdrop · 10/01/2024 07:37

Morning all :) lost 2 pound this week which isn’t bad considering I went away at the weekend and was far from perfect.

SW: 14st 8
CW: 14st 3
GW: 10st
Lost: 5 pound

Sadly I have never lost weight by avoiding alcohol altogether. It makes me crave desserts, whereas I'm not bothered normally. Drinking in moderation is best for me when losing weight. Couple of g&ts on a Friday night, that's it.

HighlandCowRose · 10/01/2024 08:20

afaloren exercise avoiding, that sounds familiar 😬

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo thank you, it does help to hear from people who didn't like it and now do.

This probably sounds really dumb but asking on here about workouts and then saying I'd do it at the weekend was what made me do it, I'd have found an excuse but it made me feeling accountable saying to a bunch of people I dong know that I would.

Well done on all the losses

ItsTapasTime that's my rational to, losing all the wine calories has to have a impact🙏

LegoTherapy your walking, do you walk anywhere in particular, are they scenic route walks or are you just getting out.

ThreeRingCircus · 10/01/2024 08:27

Morning all. I've lost this week which I'm delighted with. I'm still loads heavier than I was pre-pandemic but it's shown me I can do this. Onwards and downwards!

SW - 15st 1lb
CW - 14st 9lb
GW - 11st

ChickenChipsandBeans · 10/01/2024 08:44

I'm also doing dry January and I really thought not having all those extra calories would give me a good loss, but at least the scales are going in the right direction. I have set myself a goal of trying to get under 70kg for my birthday in the first week of February, but we'll see. 0.9kg/1.98 lbs down this week, so plodding on here. Good luck everyone.
SW 82.2 kg
Last week 74.2 kg
CW 73.3kg
GW 60 kg

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 10/01/2024 08:58

A loss of just over four pounds for me. I'm really pleased with that. Effectively taking me back to my pre-Christmas weight, so a lot of water and bloating really, but it's a good start.

After the trousers I bought fitting so much better after a few days on track, I might try on the jeans that were just far too snug to wear at new year again!

Congratulations to all those with losses, and solidarity to those that haven't - sometimes there's really no rhyme or reason.

LegoTherapy · 10/01/2024 09:01

@HighlandCowRose I don't drive so walk everywhere. Attached is the school run. I'm very lucky. It's 1.5 miles to school then I walk up to mum's which is another mile and a bit. If I go to the shops that another 1.5 miles there and back so I clock up the miles quickly and easily.

Hi all haven’t had a chance to post on here or read the messages but will try and read through and catch up at some point as it’s such an inspiring thread.
Weirdly I have dropped 1.2kg in 2 days?! I’m very confused as I havent been too strict in this time so I’m wondering if it’s water weight/hormonal fluctuations.
My main focus this week is reducing processed foods and keeping my portion sizes in check. I have been really inspired by the Dr Chatterjee podcast on UPFs.
My other goal is to start up exercising again as I haven’t really done anything in a few weeks now and prior to xmas I was doing a few things and really enjoying it. I enjoy going for a jog and some dancing exercise videos on you tube. I try to view exercise as a means to keep my body and mind happy and unrelated to weight loss if that makes sense. So the goal is to try and do that this week. Have a great day all!

secondtimemumma · 10/01/2024 09:16

@LegoTherapy lovely photos!
@TheRealHousewife Get well soon hope today is a better day!

Sometimes it happens like that, people call it the 'whoosh' effect.

I find that just before a whoosh I'll notice my belly fat feels softer and more marshmallowy.

NothingTraLaLa · 10/01/2024 09:40

Beautiful photos @LegoTherapy !

Small loss of 0.6 pounds this week, but it’s better than a gain.

SW 128 lbs
CW 118.4 lbs
TW 114 lbs

EndlessGuineaPigCycle · 10/01/2024 09:52

WOW

2.3kg lost in week 1, so feeling very pleased. All my treadmilling has really been helping with my sciatica too, which after a year of chronic pain, has been feeling better over the past couple of days.

SW 81.2kg
Last week 80.9kg
CW 78.6kg
Mini goal 77kg
GW 73kg

Well done everyone on your losses and good luck over the next week!

DomesticatedPickle · 10/01/2024 09:52

Morning everyone.

I have been reading the posts and finding it all great inspiration thank you all!

SW - 94.3kg (1st jan)
CW - 92.0kg
GW - 74kg

Lost 1.35kg this week which I am really happy with.

Fasting is going well with a 24 hour fast thrown in Sunday unintentionally. I was on my way to a nice celebration pub lunch when I had a little car accident and before I knew it I’d made it to 24 hours when I had finally gotten home and sorted.

Not the best way to get a long fast in but It’s showed me I can which is good.

No car for the next 6 months I think so my step count will improve at least!

ThreeRingCircus · 10/01/2024 09:53

I also found the Dr Chatterjee podcast on UPFs really interesting and I'm definitely going to be more mindful and try and cut down.

The swaps we've already made are having plain greek yoghurt and flavouring it with honey and/or fruit rather than flavoured yogurts with sugar/sweetener from the supermarket. I've also started buying the Jasons brand of bread as it's less processed than other brands but I'm going to try making my own.

Newname2308 · 10/01/2024 09:53

SW 70kg
WoW 10/1 64.1 kg
TW (revised for 2024!) 56kg
Waist 31in - adding in this measurement for more accountability

Almost back down to my pre-Xmas 63.8kg, so I’m happy. Still got lots of Xmas choc around 😩 but easily got back into no booze Mon-Thurs 👍 Back at work now so hopefully my step count will increase as well!

Spudlover · 10/01/2024 09:55

@LegoTherapy lovely photos! I’m lucky enough to have a national park on my doorstep so need to do more walking. I do go out for hikes, but general walking not so much.

2.5lb and 7cm loss for me this morning which I’m happy with. Would have been nice to lose all my Christmas weight but it’s heading in the right direction.

Todays food will be:
Eggs and tomatoes
warm chicken salad
Cottage cheese
Healthier version of red beans and cauliflower rice.

Plus 45mins treadmill and weights.

talkingdeadscot · 10/01/2024 10:10

Morning all!

Well done everyone and get well soon @TheRealHousewife

SW (June 2023) - 93kg
First Goal - 72kg (achieved Christmas 2023)
CW - 70.2kg
GW - 55kg

That's a loss of 1kg for me this week.

Still plodding on. I do get a bit fed up with 'dieting' but this is the first year in forever that I've weighed less at the end of the year than I did at the beginning. It feels like there's no pressure somehow and I can keep plodding till the summer. Hope so anyway.

HighlandCowRose · 10/01/2024 10:50

LegoTherapy it's beautifully scenic where you are, I live on the coast and find it much easier walking when the views good.

EndlessGuineaPigCycle sorry to hear you're suffering from sciatica.
I have sciatica too, thankfully in a pain free period atm, walking used to really help me, I used to spend my evenings walking round the lounge because I couldn't bare the pain if I sat down.

VallesMarineris · 10/01/2024 10:54

Had a slight wobble yesterday. Need to keep up with my daily salads whatever I might be cooking for the others. There's lots of veg and lentil soup in the freezer, but I just wanted what they were having. Despite that, I did not waver from my eating wondow, and feel more on track this morning after my mini rebellion. (IF 10am-6pm.)

This week's loss two pounds.

Total loss 4 lbs.

buzzofthebumblebee · 10/01/2024 11:07

Reporting in a 2lb loss. Also hoped for more given alcohol calories saved and exercise calories used, but slowly and surely is the name of the game.

Keep plodding on @talkingdeadscot - it's obviously working for you.
Hope you feel better soon @TheRealHousewife
Beautiful school run @LegoTherapy
Hope you are OK after your accident @DomesticatedPickle

E - 5k run
B - blueberries, yoghurt & a spoon of museli (no added sugar)
L - carrot and squash soup (if I get round to making it)
D - leftover risotto with broccoli
S - couple oat cakes with peanut butter, but high calories so must kick this habit

WeirdPookah · 10/01/2024 11:20

I batch cooked 12 dinners worth of mango korma this morning, I freeze it in small tubs, extra thick, so can add some water to make it up and chickpeas etc when I need it.

B: Black soy bean burrito with pumpkin seed paste
L: leftover minestrone, pesto
D: veggie sausage, mashed swede/carrots, shallots, marrowfat peas, gravy

I'll be weighing in Friday as I prefer that day.

DomesticatedPickle · 10/01/2024 11:26

@buzzofthebumblebee I am all good thanks. I was stationary so no big impact involved luckily. Well done on your 2lb loss!

@VallesMarineris Well done for sticking to your window even if you don’t feel the day was your best food wise.

Its so easy just to bin the whole day off as bad when in reality you’ve maybe made a mistake with about 10% of it.

ImALittlePea · 10/01/2024 11:27

Well done to everyone reporting a loss, be it a whoosh or a 🐌 and to those who's scales are being rude - keep going ❤️

I decided to hop on today (unusual for me) and happy to be down just over 1lb since Friday. Hoping a couple more on plan days and I'll be back in the 9s by Friday.

Sorry to hear about your accident @DomesticatedPickle I hope you're ok.

I ended up on 1500 calories yesterday, today should be lower.... On top of my meals I had tea, a bowl of strawberries, and 9 small squares of chocolate.

Lunch - first cup-a-soup special of the year (minus the crispbreads though as I don't have any)
Dinner - homemade chips topped with homemade chilli from the freezer and some grated cheese

Everything so far inputted into MFP is coming in just under 1000 calories, so some scope for something else. Plus I'm working tonight so that'll be 4-5 hours of steps on top.

PatienceOfEngels · 10/01/2024 11:35

SW 77kg (beginning October 2023)
CW 70.6kg
Interim GW 68kg
GW 63kg

+0.5kg this week. That's what one day's celebrating with UPF will do for you (DC birthday yesterday so birthday cake, crisps and UPF dinner chosen by them!!!). Should come off in a day or two and fx for a better loss (was 69.8kg yesterday) next week if I can avoid celebrating again! Was 69.6kg yesterday). First proper day back at work (inset Monday so first day teaching) and good to be back in routine.

Today:
-boiled egg, rye toast with butter, coffee
-vegetarian scotch broth
-split pea soup and bread
-snacks - fruit/veg (satsuma, apple, carrots)

Still keeping up with YWA 30 days of yoga. Almost didn't do it yesterday and glad I did (it was an easy, relaxing stretching one).
