January 2024! Fresh start & develop new habits. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feeling rough today and so glad I batch cooked a load of lunches in December! I do 16:8, so no breakfast and for lunch I have a Moroccan beef stew, and chicken, potatoes and peas for tea with the kids x

imustbepatient · 09/01/2024 11:34

Thanks @PatienceOfEngels , I bought a soup maker a couple of months ago and have got really into making different batches to rotate for lunches. Today’s is broccoli and stilton. I’m trying to wait a bit longer before having it, but am feeling pretty hungry as I’m getting up at 6am on week days again with my elder daughter back at school since Monday. Good to get back into a bit of a routine again though with the children back at school. I do so much better with routines, but I do need to find ways to keep on keeping on even when out of routine.

Enjoy the family birthday celebrations!

Lots of lovely sounding food from everyone, it’s great inspiration. @rainbow616 that Moroccan beef stew sounds fantastic, I might have to add that to my plans for the week!

Inspired by a Nutracheck email yesterday, I had a bit of a reflection on the positives and challenges etc from 2023 and what my thoughts and goals are for 2024. I typed it all out and ended up with 4 pages worth of thoughts😂

Following a suggestion from a You Tube guy I follow (Jordan Syatt), I also put together a table for each day of the next 12 months for me to enter my weight (when I’m focused on weight loss I generally weigh daily / most days, to help me see it as ‘just information’ and take out the emotions from fluctuations). I’ve laid it out so I will be able to compare 9 Jan with 9 Feb, then 9 March etc (and same for all other days), so that I can see both the daily fluctuations but also the month on month changes, and factoring more for time of month etc.

I do like having these sorts of systems and things to focus on, but I don’t want to get too obsessive about it either. I just want to de-personalise / de-emotion things a bit so I see it as information / input. I’m hopeful that the chart, plus reviewing the reflections / goals document from time to time will help me to not derail at future points in the year.

Been on a long walk into town and back by myself to swap a book and spend gift vouchers in Waterstones. The wind was freezing on the prom, but the sun made my back hot! I enjoyed spending some time alone.

Foods been on plan so far today.

B: black soy bean burrito with pumpkin seed and chili paste
L: millet flatbread, soft boiled egg, cucumber, mango chutney
D: Minestrone

HighlandCowRose · 09/01/2024 13:07

I'm glad I joined the thread, seeing others noting down exercise inspired me to try a you tube work out recommended to meon here, I've said before I hate exercising, and I do, hoping to get into it but my god do my legs hurt after it, it hurts to go up/down stairs, sit down, stand up, get in/out of the car. It's because I'm in such bad shape but the idea of finally feeling the muscle fatigue go and then have do it all again doesn't help me motivation 😅

I also don't seem to get the high people say they get from doing it which doesn't help.

Anyway onward I go

ImALittlePea · 09/01/2024 13:51

Well done @buzzofthebumblebee on a week AF! I'll be there tomorrow, although not officially signed up to dry Jan. Does feel good, doesn't it!?

@WeirdPookah love a bracing walk along the front like that! Blowing the cobwebs away 😊

DD is a bit brighter today and slept better last night, thanks to those who wished her well.

Yesterday I ended up 30 calories over, which I'm fine with.

Today is currently looking like this:
Lunch - 1/2 carton of chunky veg soup
Dinner - hunters chicken (one baked chicken breast, one grilled bacon rasher, tablespoon of BBQ sauce and 30g grated cheddar), roasted or crushed new potatoes and lots of green veg
Snacks - a few cups of tea (natch) and one small oat latte

Currently tracking for c.1,250 calories, so wiggle room for another few squares of chocolate after dinner 😋

Here's a public service reminder to drink another glass of water!! 😁

Oh no - feel better soon @TheRealHousewife and yes - roll on spring 🥶

ThreeRingCircus · 09/01/2024 16:37

Look after yourself @TheRealHousewife and hope you feel better soon. 💐

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 09/01/2024 17:12

Get better soon @TheRealHousewife

We all have the never ending cold in our house, feel like I've been coughing and feeling pants since October. Also very very much looking forward to spring, I'd like to skip winter all together this year even though I know in theory it's been mild, it's also been grey and rainy and generally dismal for way too long!

Off to Aqua Aerobics this evening so will be getting my exercise in and hopefully loosening up some muscles.

afaloren · 09/01/2024 17:37

@HighlandCowRose it took me AGES to get a high from working out. For years I would have said I hated exercise then one day something just clicked and I started enjoying it. At this weight it’s more of a challenge than when I was slimmer but I still feel good afterwards.

Lazysundayafternoon2024 · 09/01/2024 18:42

Hey everyone, just checking in today really. Now that the kids are back to school it seems like a never ending cycle of life admin, struggling to keep up with it all tbh! Hopefully it'll calm down soon though.

After a terrible food weekend I did an awesome fast yesterday, stuck to 500 cals no problem. Been out for 2 walks today and on just over 1200 cals at the moment so will have a hot chocolate this evening and end the day on a good note.

L: ham and lentil soup and a crumpet (cold with no butter-yuck)
D: beef noodle stir fry.

Not sure where I'm going with the whole weighing thing, I might go back to weekly weighing as the daily fluctuations make me cross at myself if they've gone up and then I seen to get disheartened. I think official weigh in day for me will be Friday instead of Weds.

Speak to you tomorrow!

HighlandCowRose · 09/01/2024 20:10

afaloren that's reassuring, but years you say 😲

TheRealHousewife hope you're feeling better soon

B 1 slice of toast with hummus & a banana
L seeded bread sandwich
B veggie burger, salad, roasted tomatoes and beetroot
S salt 'n pepper graze, glass of wine

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 09/01/2024 20:53

Back from Aqua Aerobics and my calves and shins are burning. That running round the pool then running into the whirlpool you created is a right bugger.

Need to remember to drink more and have a banana before i go next week as had a bit of leg cramping.

afaloren · 09/01/2024 21:01

@HighlandCowRose well for most of those years I used hating exercise as an excuse not to do it Grin I would say once I started exercising regularly it took about 18 months.

afaloren · 09/01/2024 21:05

A good day here.

B - Protein yoghurt and small banana
L - Leek and potato soup, gluten free toast, two clementines
D - Smoked mackerel and green beans, yoghurt, mini chocolate bar

Snack: smoothie made with raspberries, spinach and protein powder

Exercise: 2 x dog walks, yoga, and I went to the gym! It was my first time back for months (what a lot of wasted money on an unused membership) and I did a good 40 mins. Felt really good. I’ve signed up to a step class for Thursday.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 09/01/2024 22:10

Options are doing a limited edition praline flavoured hot chocolate so treated myself to that and sipping a cup now. It is so sweet and delicious.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 09/01/2024 22:26

That's really interesting on the upf vs home baked @maybein2022 food (ahem) for thought. It's so easy to wolf down a chocolate biscuit in the blink of any eye, but I would do that with a home baked cake.

I didn't do my class after all @Frozenfjords chores got in the way. But I did do it today!

Sorry you're not feeling well @TheRealHousewife hope you get better soon.

Today's menu:

B - boiled egg and toast
L - lentil & bacon soup, small portion of chicken, apple
D - Moroccan kale, chicken, barley stew.
Snacks - 1 chocolate biscuit.
Exercise - strength class

I have kept under my calorie goal for my nutracheck week wed - Tue so fingers crossed for a good WOW tomorrow!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 09/01/2024 22:30

@HighlandCowRose I hated exercise when I started, and still have to force myself into doing it, but I first got a high when I could do a kick in bodycombat that I found impossible when I first started. I got a real buzz at the realisation I'd made progress.

Flowerchild547 · 10/01/2024 06:33

Morning everyone! Happy weigh day!

I have lost 5lbs this week which I’m super duper happy with. It’s a great start and gets me that bit closer to my goal.

It also means that I’ve hit my first reward of 7lbs so I get to treat myself to new pyjamas! I have seen some nice ones in sainsburys so I might pop there after work and have a look!

SW: 17st 10
CW: 17st 3
GW: 10 st 10
Total Lost: 7lbs

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 10/01/2024 06:57

Well done @Flowerchild547 ! Enjoy your new PJs.

LegoTherapy · 10/01/2024 07:04

Morning all. A gain here. I'm eating less and walking 11 miles a day on average on a school day so not sure why. Nevermind. I'll keep plodding on.
@Flowerchild547 well done!

I've a day off today but lots to do to prep for ds's birthday tomorrow. I've still got Christmas decorations to put away fgs😩

Good luck for the weigh ins and have a great day.

sprinklersplashes · 10/01/2024 07:11

Morning all!

SW 13.5
CW 8 12.4
GW 7.10

First weigh in for me today, went up to 9.6 between Christmas and New Year and had lost the water weight by NYD, so didn't want to be disheartened with a small loss on day 3 last week. Pleased with 4.6lbs, I know it's going to really slow down now as I'm within the healthy BMI range so just need to keep plodding along

Good luck to you all today!

LemonDrizzle23 · 10/01/2024 07:15

Well done @Flowerchild547 I'm looking forward to new clothes when my shape starts to change!

Happy WOW everyone. Looks like about 1kg off for me this week (although TMI slightly dodgy insides might mean a slightly fake temporary low....)

SW: 97.5
CW: 95.4
5%: 92.5

Things that appear to have worked this week are intermittent fasting, and upping my number of daily steps. I'm going to try both again consistently for another week and see if there is a similar outcome!

Sunshineofyourlove · 10/01/2024 07:18

I've had a gain, too 😒. Last weekend was an extension of Christmas and I am in the last part of my cycle so that will have done it.

CW 11 ST 9
TW 10 ST 6

@LegoTherapy that's an awful lot of walking! I'm impressed!

Well done everyone who is back on track, I'm going to read back through the thread for inspiration.

Stripyunicorn · 10/01/2024 07:20

Just had my first official weigh in.
SW 13 stone
CW 12 stone 9
GW 10 stone 7
Loss this week 5lb
Total loss so far 5lb

I've not actually changed very much so I'm very happy with that! My usual weight has been about 12 stone 11, the 13 stone was Christmas increase. Even so I'm a couple of lb down on my "real" weight which is good.
