⭐️LOSE IT! August 2023⭐️

Healthy eating in the summer can be tricky to navigate. Summer barbecues, holidays, get togethers with family & friends makes it tougher to stay on track. No one wants to miss out on all the goodies on offer or be seen not joining in. However with forward planning and by setting your intentions you can mitigate any serious undoing of your endeavours. For example having a lighter lunch if you know you’re going for a slap up meal. Eat lighter the following day and keep hydrated to compensate.

Another new month to embrace and re-set to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9.5st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back (mainly) on track. I Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@WeirdPookah Good weigh-in again. Well done 👏

@Allthegoodnamestakken You've done brilliantly 👌

@ImALittlePea Great that you’ve seen a loss, even though it’s the holiday season 👍. Cheesy chips 😋

@instantpotnoodle You'll soon find your groove and the scales will reward you!

@MamaGhina Well done on swerving the ice cream! Not easy, especially in the sunshine 😬 Not drinking calories will help massively with weight loss and sticking to plan. Congratulations on setting your intentions 👏

Keep at it ladies, you can do it!

@Allthegoodnamestakken that's the best way to think about it. I plateaued for ages. Was so fed up, but like you, kept reminding myself I'd lost 12 kg so that was a huge achievement in itself.
Eventually the last 4kg came off quite quickly but I reckon I hovered around the same weight for 3 months before that happened . It's hard not to feel demoralised when your progress stalls so i just wanted to give you some encouragement!

MamaGhina · 22/08/2023 07:16

@TheRealHousewife thank you for the encouragement 😊
I had a really good day food wise yesterday. In the evening I just sipped tea. During the day when I snacked it was on fruit and nuts. Just wish I could be more focussed every day! It was an easy day because we were at home and not out and about. Looking forward to the start of term in a couple of weeks so we can get back to our normal routine.

DownUdderer · 22/08/2023 07:48

I had a walk today, it's was too hot really so I didn't go far. My legs feel like they could fall off!

I've been snacking too much. But my overall food is good most of the time.

It's just been a busy few weeks and I'm doing my best most of the time! Almost everything in my wardrobe fits me again so that's really lovely.

TheRealHousewife · 22/08/2023 09:11

Good Morning

You’re welcome @MamaGhina 👍

@DownUdderer Thats great news! You’ll have fun discovering pieces you haven’t worn a while and feel good easily slipping into them. I really need to sift and sort my wardrobe. It has all sizes right up to some 16s. I’ve been in mainly 12s (top heavy) and under for a couple of years now. I think it will be quite cathartic.

Menu
Meal 1 - Tomato soup. Pecans. Apple.
Meal 2 - Spicy chilli with sauté veg. Greek yoghurt and strawberries.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Ninjachicken · 23/08/2023 11:14

56.5 kgs this morning, it’s 39 degrees here at the moment so doing anything is difficult! But probably sweating out a lot of water weight!
hope everyone is doing ok!

HowIsItAugustAlready · 23/08/2023 11:19

Morning all! WoW - STS which frankly was a miracle as weekend was a write-off with a weekend away.
Currently 11st 2, determined to get under 11st by the end of the month - being sensible with eating out choices will be key! I find it so hard to be mindful about it - I don't find it very difficult when I remember which sounds ridiculous. But a social event with friends and food it's like my brain switches into a different mode and suddenly it doesn't occur to me to not eat the bread/dessert.
Maybe I need to set a reminder on my phone mid-event!! 🤣
Hope everyone has a good WoW!

MamaGhina · 23/08/2023 18:55

Currently munching my way through a salad. I went out for dinner last night and had a salad too, so feeling a bit better about the choices I’m making. Would love to finish the month with those 2lbs off.

MamaGhina · 24/08/2023 21:32

Had a salad at lunch time today but unfortunately used cookies to stop myself opening wine. I think I ran out of healthy snacks because I’ve already eaten them all today 😆 oh well. Hopefully the cookies were less calories than the wine would have been….

NothingTraLaLa · 25/08/2023 11:48

I got back from a 2 week holiday yesterday, so it was with trepidation that I got on the scales this morning. It was a touring safari - I found that I didn’t overindulge as we all ate the same meal (school dinner style) which was usually quite stodgy and wasn’t always completely to my taste. However, it turns out a safari is mainly spent sitting down, and we were under strict instructions not to leave the camp in case of being eaten by the roaming wildlife 😁, so not much scope to burn any of it off with exercise.

The result is a gain of roughly 3lbs, but I’m still below my starting weight and I’m confident I can get back on track.

SW: 128 lbs
CW: 127 lbs
TW: 119 lbs

MamaGhina · 25/08/2023 21:05

Not a great food day and annoyingly I’ve not had time to do any exercise. At least I managed to swerve the white wine tonight.

Can’t wait for the kids to go back to school!!!

DownUdderer · 26/08/2023 01:05

I'm chugging along. I am snacking more than I'd like. So weight loss is really slow. But I'm just sort of bumbling along. I'm navigating stressful days with a few snacks. I know I could plan my food better, but I'm doing the best I can at the moment. I keep thinking next week will be less stressful and then I can plan and shop and then eat better snacks. Maybe next week will be less stressful! Haha.

Hi Everyone

Belated WOW - 1.5lbs loss 👍 Here’s hopefully no it sticks!

@Ninjachicken Its very hot where you are 🥵 Hope you’re getting the fluids in!

@HowIsItAugustAlready I have everything crossed for you for your month end goal!

@MamaGhina If you keep being mindful you should reap rewards 👍 I know it’s tough day after day, week after week. That’s why it’s important to include enjoyable satisfying foods in with your plan.

@DownUdderer Sometimes life is like that. You’re doing your best and that’s all anyone can do. Hang on in there. Here’s hoping to less stress in the coming weeks!

Menu
Meal 1 - Back bacon, scrambled egg and cooked fresh tomatoes.
Meal 2 - Planned on having beef goulash but fancying Chicken Giros & tzatziki 🤔
Tea, black coffee & water. 2 pecans.

Away for a couple of weeks but I will endeavour to create Septembers thread … How is it nearly September 😮

OP posts:
MamaGhina · 26/08/2023 20:18

So glad it’s nearly September 🤣 back into the routine, back to school.
I’m currently munching my way through some strawberries after having a salad for dinner 😇 no wine for me either, sticking to water.

TheRealHousewife · 26/08/2023 20:52

Great restraint @MamaGhina Congrats on sticking to your guns! Not always easy on a weekend.

OP posts:
Weatherwax13 · 27/08/2023 01:14

Hey all. Can't believe it's nearly the end of another month. My ridiculous stress-induced eating habits have swung to the opposite extreme and I've gained almost 2kg in a week!
I absolutely cannot let this become a slippery slope. I feel dreadful enough about myself as it is.
So I'm going to post regularly again to help get myself back in control.
Starting intensive couples' therapy 4th Sept but I'm already one foot out the door and I don't need another thing to feel bad about. I was so happy to be at TW.

WeirdPookah · 27/08/2023 09:31

Back from holiday.

Lots of slow walking, as in combing the beach for 2 hours plus looking for glass! So my fitness minutes are way down, but I know I did more walking than it counted.

Been shopping, going to start meal-planning and calorie counting tomorrow, school starts in another week and things will get a lot easier then.

Not weighing in until later this week, then find out what the damage of bara brith, lots of Welsh butter and the most amazing local bakery have caused!

NothingTraLaLa · 27/08/2023 11:38

It turns out that my holiday weight gain must have been mostly fluid retention as I’ve lost 2lbs since Friday and I’m almost back down to the weight I was before I went, which is good news.

Currently using the tactic of wearing a new pair of trousers that are a bit tight in the waistband as a sort of external gastric band 😁 but here’s hoping they fit properly soon.

@Weatherwax13 chucks rope over board Pulling you up sister! Well done on acknowledging your slide and acting sooner rather than later. 👏 It’s all too easy to bury one’s head in the sand when stress is knoring at our stomachs.

@WeirdPookah Welcome back! Did you find much sea glass. Beach combing is my absolute favourite pastime 🌊 🏝️ Love it! Any photos of finds? rubs thighs 😬

@NothingTraLaLa Great result! Loving your external gastric band 👍

BBC Good Food website has some great advice -50 Weight Loss Tips

A lot of them are common sense and some might not resonate. A bit of a pic-n-mix; For example I rarely have breakfast or eat before midday as I just don’t feel hungry.

OP posts:
Weatherwax13 · 27/08/2023 21:55

@TheRealHousewife I've grabbed the rope. Thankyou 🩷
Just refused H's offer of toast so that's a good start. Like you, I don't eat breakfast. Realised when I started my weight loss in January that I don't need/want it but it's become habit the last ten days or so because H had started automatically making it again. Ridiculous!!! Great slabs of bread make me feel sluggish and seem to increase sweet cravings later in the day.

Ninjachicken · 28/08/2023 07:31

I am reading this whilst eating my morning toast and now I am asking myself why I am eating it 😂😂😂
I think I am going to restart and not eat before midday again. It does me good I think and I feel less hungry throughout the day when I do not eat in the morning
have a good week everyone !

DownUdderer · 28/08/2023 08:02

I feel better when I don't eat bread every day. I doesn't keep me feeling full for long enough.

I had a lovely 10km walk today.

I need to get to the supermarket and buy myself some good things to snack on. I like having mozzarella and tomatoes or olives and deli meats. I would like some soup this week as well and probably some salmon and veg. I just need to plan a bit better this week and focus!

TheRealHousewife · 28/08/2023 16:50

Hello You Lovely Lot

You’re very welcome @Weatherwax13 . Hope you’re feeling more settled and getting into the groove food wise ❤️

@Ninjachicken Your post made me chuckle 🤭 We’ve all eaten mindlessly at times. I am getting better at only eating when hungry etc. Yesterday for example we didn’t eat until about 13:30 but it was a largish meal. I didn’t feel hungry at all at the time our next meal was due around 19:00 so I didn’t bother; therefore yesterday inadvertently became OMAD. Today we were out and about early and didn’t eat until about 14:00. My other half says he’s still full from lunch so planning a coffee table pic-nic when we get back rather than have another pub meal. I agree eating simple carbs early in the day sets you up for craving more of the same later in the day.

@DownUdderer well done on getting the 10k walk in! Impressive!

OP posts:
Weatherwax13 · 28/08/2023 19:11

@TheRealHousewife @Ninjachicken I definitely agree that eating in the morning is just unnecessary for some of us. Obviously everyone is different though. @DownUdderer bread is a sure fire way to make me hungrier during the day. I've been eating only when actually hungry since my last post and I can already see the bloating subside. Had a salad yesterday dinner of pesto marinated chicken with spinach, red onion, cucumber, carrot, a little parmesan and made a balsamic dressing. It was delicious and I felt pleasantly full and didn't want anything else after it. H stuffed his down with a huge quantity of ciabatta and then mainlined chocolate all evening. I just don't want that WOE ever again.
Today I've planned barramundi with a big stir-fry of green vegetables and mushrooms.
