⭐️LOSE IT! August 2023⭐️

Healthy eating in the summer can be tricky to navigate. Summer barbecues, holidays, get togethers with family & friends makes it tougher to stay on track. No one wants to miss out on all the goodies on offer or be seen not joining in. However with forward planning and by setting your intentions you can mitigate any serious undoing of your endeavours. For example having a lighter lunch if you know you’re going for a slap up meal. Eat lighter the following day and keep hydrated to compensate.

Another new month to embrace and re-set to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9.5st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back (mainly) on track. I Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

I've lost one pound of the two that I gained! I haven't lost any weight in August!!

I've been really good this week. Eating lots of salads and soups.

I've got to bake cupcakes this evening with my daughter for homework!

I hope I can lose this other pound I re-gained.

esormirP · 31/08/2023 06:47

Sorry I dropped off, back to school has been hard work! But still trying to be mindful of my eating.

thank you all for the support and tips

been a very up down month weight wise, but I have lost 1.8kg overall this month so that’s a win!

Good Morning You Lovely Lot

A massive well done to all members. Even if the results aren’t what you wanted and you missed your target; the fact you stayed with it and did your best means you’re in a better place than you would have been 👏👏👏

@Allthegoodnamestakken Lovely to see you. Sorry to hear about how your life’s been recently; Anxiety really is awful and I say that as a fellow sufferer. I hope you soon feel more settled ❤️

@JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots Deep breaths ❤️ Here’s to September too 🍁 I love our monthly fresh starts👍

@WeirdPookah I understand your disappointment. I had a couple of months of STS and it can get disheartening. Try not to get down about it. I know it’s how you feel that’s important but I think you’ve done great to maintain, especially as you’ve been on holiday.

@Karatema Prof Tim and Zoe makes so much sense. Eating a wide variety of veg, legumes, nuts, seeds, fruit, herbs etc is surprisingly easy once you have an adequately stocked store cupboard and fridge 👍. And people feel so much more healthy and vibrant when eating fresh and clean. Some chat on the September thread about Zoe. Talking of getting in 30 varieties a week; there is an app ‘Daily Dozen’ which has a daily tick list of numerous fresh foods. Could help with keeping a tally if that’s what you’d find useful.

@Bikechic Thats great! Especially when on holiday too. Very satisfying. 👌

@DownUdderer It’s great you’ve seen half the gain off 👍. The rest will soon follow I’m sure!

@esormirP Great graph! I love a graph 😬. That’s a great result for August! Well done 👏

I’ll weigh myself in the morning but looks like I’m a pound down this month, which all in all is disappointing!
Will join the new thread tomorrow too 👍

@TheRealHousewife thanks, I am trying to get back on top of it, its been an issue for me since a child but lately is spiraling again. I should try and keep up with the healthy eating and exercising though as even when I feel like I can't I know it helps overall. Took myself for a lengthy horse ride through the woods this morning and feeling much better, wondering if perhaps buying a horse so I can do it everyday would be cheaper than a therapist.

I can't find who started the talk but really intrigued by the eating 30 different plant foods each week. I'm sure I nowhere near achieve that as I eat very repetitive meals but I will look into it.

TheRealHousewife · 31/08/2023 13:45

@MamaGhina It’s crap when you’ve been on it! Flip the thought and think any loss, big or small is better than a gain 👍

@Allthegoodnamestakken A horse through the woods sounds idyllic. Animals I find are not only therapeutic but also empathic ❤️. Have you discussed stopping counselling with your therapist/gp? Be kind to yourself, sounds like you’ve been through it.

@Allthegoodnamestakken the 30 different foods a week is less daunting than you might think. I personally aim for 40 and give myself a little cheer when I hit 50! Happens occasionally!

It involved changes like instead of just a single fruit on the waffles I make on Sundays, we have a fruit mix, so 4 different instead of 1. I add oats and cornmeal to the batter and leave out some flour, adds 2 and the cornmeal helps with the crispness anyway. Our breakfast burritos always used to be blackbean, now I do two different tins of beans a week, so adds 1 more.

Tea also counts as 1!

Red cabbage and green cabbage count as different as they have different nutrient profiles. All different beans/lentils count as different.

Been for a short walk to the park as finally not raining and I promised the children we would go, not really far enough, but something.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 31/08/2023 18:44

I shouldn't have had such a salt heavy few days 🥴

HowIsItAugustAlready · 01/09/2023 10:34

Gosh got totally behind with the thread after a busy few days.
That's an amazing loss @TheRealHousewife , really well done!

I've had an incredibly up and down month too with so many social bits and pieces, I am overall 1lb down on the month which is far off what I'd hoped but actually not too bad considering I've been barely clinging to the back of the wagon overall!

Holiday and wedding in September coming up so I will try to make my September goal realistic!!

See you on the other side!
