⭐️LOSE IT! August 2023⭐️

Healthy eating in the summer can be tricky to navigate. Summer barbecues, holidays, get togethers with family & friends makes it tougher to stay on track. No one wants to miss out on all the goodies on offer or be seen not joining in. However with forward planning and by setting your intentions you can mitigate any serious undoing of your endeavours. For example having a lighter lunch if you know you’re going for a slap up meal. Eat lighter the following day and keep hydrated to compensate.

Another new month to embrace and re-set to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9.5st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back (mainly) on track. I Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

I'm joining and this is IT! I've been on a diet for 20 years! I lost 3 stone about 5 years ago and felt so much better for it.
I can't keep using stress as an excuse!
Have burnt 300 calories on the peloton this morning and have begun the journey!

MissHavershamReturns · 09/08/2023 07:51

@MamaGhina thanks so much for your message and understanding and what a good idea about teeth - definitely going to do this!

MissHavershamReturns · 09/08/2023 07:53

Just got brave and stood on scales - worse than I thought at 89.2 kg but good to get motivated with a starting point

Bikechic · 09/08/2023 08:44

Stayed the same again this week. Chocolate Binge last night. Every morning I resolve to do better. Will power where are you?

HowIsItAugustAlready · 09/08/2023 08:47

Well my first WoW in a while went very averagely... STS. Which is a lesson that being mindful in the week and then eating whatever at the weekend is not the method by which successful loss is going to happen - at least for me!
Back on the wagon, a new week!
Good luck for all the WoWers!!

WeirdPookah · 09/08/2023 09:58

Wow, ok, yesterday went wrong. Woke up with a hormonal headache, took the children to get new school shoes, as I refuse to go in the last week of the holidays, that is madness! Discovered the outlet park we go to the Clarks at has improved and there was a new tea-room, with ice cream emporium with 48 flavours! So we had ice cream. The sun was so hot and bight my headache got worse and had a quick ploughmans style lunch with the fresh bread I picked up, then my headache got even worse and I ended up not eating dinner and feeling a bloated from the ice cream as well.

Onwards to today! Been out early as it's meant to be hot, so got a 50 minute walk in.
B: Black bean burrito
L: hard boiled eggs and salad
D: Mango chickpea korma, cauliflower with lemon rice paste.

ImALittlePea · 09/08/2023 10:34

Super quick check in...

Nice to see you @JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots agree the school hols are hard! I hope your health is in a better place now?

What a lovely affirmative post @DownUdderer so uplifting to read! And in sure the cupcakes will go down brilliantly!

Sending continued hugs @Weatherwax13 @Ninjachicken

@Allthegoodnamestakken as annoying as the yo-yo phases are, they are totally normal for all of us! Glad you're in a better place mentally!

Good luck and high fives to all WoWers today, whatever the result may be.

I'm having an unexpected and very rushed child free coffee before a hair appointment! Willpower has been in action this week - evening cuppas instead of wine ✔️ DH off work from tomorrow until the middle of next week so expecting to feel more in 'holiday mode' again, but at least I'll have had half a week of making good choices.

I'll catch up on other posts (ie those over on the next page 🤣) later!

NothingTraLaLa · 09/08/2023 12:58

Curses! Up this week by a pound. I would hope for better luck next week but we’re off on holiday so I’m not sure how likely that is. Food is very much not the focus of the holiday, which will help, but I suspect that there will be a lot of stodge (and will be avoiding salad due to worries about quality of water).

@TheRealHousewife

Excellent reminder about weight/body composition and body weight. It’s almost impossible to accurately compare yourself to another in this way. I am petite framed and not very tall. When I was match fit and very active I looked a slip of a thing but was very strong and was solid muscle. I don’t know the fat % as scales that measured that didn’t exist then. People were shocked I was 7.5-8.5 stones as in their opinion I looked nearer to 6 stones (in their opinion). I was tiny.

  • *Definitely, one persons 8 stone will look different to another’s 8 stone! I had a childhood friend similar to you, in our twenties people thought she was 7 stone and she was actually 9 stone.

I still weigh myself regularly as it’s good for a general indicator but I also take into consideration how strong I feel, how well I can fit into clothes, and waist measurements.

Remembering this helps you not to freak out unnecessarily over the scale showing a pound or two increase when you’ve been in calorie deficit.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 09/08/2023 15:17

I forgot to weigh because I'm no longer in constant vigilance mode plus I've no idea what day it is now it's the holidays. Must try harder.

At the theme park it was very satisfying to see that the restraining bars were not stopping on me as the biggest person in the row. Those bars always worry me though and I think they should be individual for safety.

I'm stewing some frozen fruit in readiness for yogurt lunches. It's macaroni cheese for dinner or maybe soup. Probably soup as tomorrow is a day out and that's fraught with danger.

Weatherwax13 · 09/08/2023 20:33

@Oatycookies really liked your post. At 71kg I'm at the top of the recommended BMI chart for my 5'7" height. I saw a friend yesterday and had a laugh as we'd grabbed the exact same pair of Levi's in a sale. We're the same height and both comfortably in size 28". Difference is she's a full 8kg lighter than me and was amazed when I told her my weight. We're just made up differently.

MamaGhina · 10/08/2023 07:49

Morning all, yesterday was a complete write off for food for me. I’m chalking it up and moving on today. I did do a long walk in the evening so keeping the exercise going. Hopping for a better day food wise today.

WeirdPookah · 10/08/2023 08:22

Weighed in this morning, lost 3lb this week.
Total down = 57lbs

Though now, we have a week of finishing food up before going on holiday, and whatever holiday food brings. I have enjoyed all we have celebrated and done etc, but I am really sick of putting things back on, then losing it again and again.

The body composition thing is why BMI is such a load of crap and a completely unfitting blunt tool to judge a single person.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 10/08/2023 08:47

@Oatycookies such a good way of looking at things, My cross fit trainer often has to remind me of the fact that as well as losing weight I have also gained so much muscle over the last 12 months. I am trying to focus on getting myself looking more toned particularly in my upper body and its good to remember its not all about the kgs lost.

Plan for today:
Lunch- Cheese (I got a lovely semi soft fresh cheese with chilli in it) very excited to have it with some gluten free crackers and fruit for lunch.
Dinner- Chicken Fajitas (without the wraps for me) will perhaps have some brown rice with mine instead as carbs are needed after a gym session
Excercise- Cardio day at the gym

esormirP · 10/08/2023 10:26

i was really good yesterday, stuck to my plan, my friend came round for a cup of tea and I just had 1 biscuit. (She brought them with her)

today has already gone to pot.

DH was supposed to be working from home as my car has a recall so had to go to a dealership rather than my local garage, my plan had been to sit in a coffee shop and read while he ignored the DC while working. He had to stay in London for an extra day. So I have had to take the DC with me.

I was in such a guddle this morning I didn’t manage breakfast! Anyway We dropped the car off and have walked 2 miles to the beach. DC needed to pee en route, so a quick pit stop at Aldi, I bought a packet of pancakes so breakfast has been 2 pancakes.

lunch is probably going to be fish and chips from a stall at the beach and DH was supposed to cook but as he won’t be back from London much before I get home, I think we are having a takeaway.

not much of a better outlook for the weekend as it is DH’s birthday and we have no DC as DC1 is at BB camp and DC2 is having a sleepover with Granny.

WeirdPookah · 10/08/2023 10:32

@Allthegoodnamestakken I got some mini tortilla wraps from Lidl, they are enough to hold filling, but only 80 calories each. It's what we are having for lunch today at request of daughter.
B: black bean burrito
L: Mini wraps with tuna/cream cheese, salad
D: Roast vegetables, chicken

Allthegoodnamestakken · 10/08/2023 11:24

@WeirdPookah thankyou but i'm not in the UK, I usually make tortillas myself in a big batch and freeze them. Currently eating a low/gluten free diet hence rice for me.
I am jealous of your wraps though! I love them, one of my favorite lunches. I actually brought some back from the UK on my last visit for the freezer as the homemade ones don't keep well and they're great for camping/self catering trips. Might add a trip to lidl to my list this year!

Good Morning All

Welcome to the thread @MissHavershamReturns . Stress eating will certainly add lbs over time. A fresh healthy routine is the way forward. Healthy balanced meals that include plenty of protein, health6 fats and some fibre. You could clean and close the kitchen after you’re had your last meal. 30 minutes after that brush your teeth 👍. I hope the stress dissipates!

@Weatherwax13 Great that you’re in smaller sizes now 👍

@esormirP Great loss! Well done 👏In regards to life’s celebrations and impromptu get togethers getting ‘in the way’ I’d embrace them whilst wrapping around them lighter meals/days. Not always easy but it’s important to live life ❤️

@WeirdPookah Fantastic result. Simply WOW 😮. Well done 👏 🏅

Well said @Oatycookies 👍I totally agree.

Great to read you’ve swapped your wine for tea @ImALittlePea 👍

@MamaGhina Ive everything crossed for you wood wise today. Planing what you’re having could help.

@JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots I love cooked fruit compote with yoghurt. Very tasty 😋

@HowIsItAugustAlready At least you didn’t gain 👍😬

Welcome to the thread @stoptheasshat Like you say, you know you can do it as you’ve done it before. Planning and sticking to it is your friend. Good luck 🤞

Menu
Meal 1 - Strapatsada on GF toast.
Meal 2 - Chicken tray bake including red peppers, courgette, red onion, carrot.
Greek yoghurt, chopped apple.

Tea, black coffee and water.

Apologies if I’ve missed anyone ❤️

We are on a day out so good eating is not the plan although I've not brought a wrap for myself, just babybel light and quorn cocktail sausages and fruit. We will share pizza at the pub for dinner. Lots of walking today.

MamaGhina · 10/08/2023 12:23

After my wobble yesterday I’m back on track.
Porridge for breakfast.
Low fat tomato soup for lunch with a yogurt.
Orange and apple snacks.
Dinner I’ll have a salad of some sort.

Heading out for a walk after lunch, I’ll do 30 or 40 minutes.

esormirP · 10/08/2023 13:31

@TheRealHousewife thanks you, you post helped me reset my mindset. Enjoy myself and make lighter choices when I can.

We found a nice gastro pub for lunch and I had a lovely bruschetta, and decaf coffee for lunch. Definitely making better choices than before.

Ninjachicken · 10/08/2023 14:41

Weighing in at 56.9 kgs today, I am fluctuating between that and 57.4 kgs
glad it is still generally going down
thanks to everyone for your kind thoughts
things are tough, we are nearing the end of having family continuously for four weeks and having all this going on whilst trying to keep up appearances all the time has been horrific
i am 100% sure that I cannot stay in this relationship. He knows now but the thought of what comes next, who goes where, house, mortgage, kids, pets, finances feels so overwhelming
but I am done putting everyone else first, I am determined to do this for me, however hard it is
thinking of you @Weatherwax13

WeirdPookah · 10/08/2023 14:47

@Allthegoodnamestakken have you tried making your own tortillas from masa? That is gluten free I believe? I have a cast iron tortilla press my husband got me for our iron anniversary present, I got blue corn masa recently and we have been having tacos with them.

@TheRealHousewife thank you, feels good to get a proper loss, again though kinda pleased to have not hit the round number of 60lbs down before going away, as sure to undo some of it (again).

The school holidays are hard too, I haven't done nearly enough exercise this week, and today is far far too hot. Maybe we can go out at the weekend.

greenspaces4peace · 10/08/2023 16:31

all is well over here weight loss extremely slow but not gaining these past 10 days.
just very busy with the honey/bottling/sales.
i promise i'll eventually catch up.

MissHavershamReturns · 10/08/2023 20:02

@TheRealHousewife thanks so much! I did well with sensible eating today.
