⭐️LOSE IT! August 2023⭐️

Healthy eating in the summer can be tricky to navigate. Summer barbecues, holidays, get togethers with family & friends makes it tougher to stay on track. No one wants to miss out on all the goodies on offer or be seen not joining in. However with forward planning and by setting your intentions you can mitigate any serious undoing of your endeavours. For example having a lighter lunch if you know you’re going for a slap up meal. Eat lighter the following day and keep hydrated to compensate.

Another new month to embrace and re-set to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9.5st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back (mainly) on track. I Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

I had a good day with food yesterday. Soup for dinner. Yum.

I'm going well with food today.

I'm maintaining my weight. I'd rather be losing but I think it's going to be slow from now on. I think I want to lose about four more pounds. We'll see how I go.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 15/08/2023 10:28

Ok, well, erm, I ate a whole packet of chocolate raisins watching tv with dd last night but it was great bonding time and worth it. I need the iron and that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it 😁 I'll do better today although I think I'll mainly just chill with food over the rest of the holidays and get back to things properly when they go back to school.
I need to think of something healthy for dinner tonight. Last night we had a pick and mix dinner of left over quorn roast, quorn cocktail sausages, grapes and wotsits followed by apple crumble and ice cream.

Good Morning

Food has been a bit weird over the last few days, I had to swap the planned dinner to lunch Sunday to see an event in town, then I got really stressed over eating later and ended up just skipping dinner. Monday was ok, today my girls wanted a picnic at my Mum's, so eaten a bunch of picnic things. Dinner will be light for me.

Trying to use up various bits of food before holiday, so things are not feeling quite normal.

Stressed out over a few things. Also upset over the hair loss I am experiencing, I don't know if it's anything to do with losing weight, but my hair looks visibly thin all over now.

DownUdderer · 16/08/2023 06:08

I'm having an ok week so far. Not much to report :)

Misty84 · 16/08/2023 06:33

Hello I’m 12 and a half stone and would like to get down to 10 stone. (I’m tall- 5ft10- so it spreads out at least!)
Found out 1.5 weeks ago I’m pregnant, and already not drinking has started to make a difference and I’m much less bloated, hurrah!! Obviously I know that being pregnant means I’ll be putting on weight eventually, so I don’t think I’ll be getting to my target weight anytime soon! Would still like to be making healthy choices though 🙂 Less bread…😬 On holiday in France atm and my partner is buying daily baguettes and croissants!🤦‍♀️ And cheese…my Achilles heel. The struggle is real!

@WeirdPookah Ive been experiencing hair loss for 3-4 months now…I have to pull a huge clump of it out of the shower daily. I have fine hair anyway so it’s upsetting. I empathise with you 🙁

HowIsItAugustAlready · 16/08/2023 07:21

Morning all! My WoW went a little better than last week, just over 1lb down. I definitely didn't have the best of weekends but I did avoid snacking much more successfully than last week so hopefully that's made the difference.
Enjoy what's hopefully a lovely sunny day for everyone! Good luck all the other WoWers!

Good Morning Hello GIF by 大姚Dayao

Good Morning

WOW - STS

@WeirdPookah I’m not saying your hair loss is diet related but I’ll share the following. When I did the Fast800 for 12 weeks a couple of years back I found I was losing hair a few months later. Quite significant. I upped calories and protein and it seems to have stopped now. This period of time also coincided with me starting with Hashimoto’s disease, which is now medicated. This condition can also contribute to hair loss/hair changes. If I drop my calories too low it affects my sleep too. I hope your issue soon resolves as I understand how much hair loss is upsetting.

@Misty84 congratulations on your pregnancy.

@HowIsItAugustAlready Well done on your weekly loss 🤷‍♀️👏

Menu
Meal 1 - Minestrone soup. Greek yoghurt and fruit compote.
Meal 2 - Spaghetti bolognaise with buttered cabbage. Pecans.

Tea, black coffee and water.

Gone up 1lb again. To be expected really as I was eating out with DD yesterday. But...
I bought a bikini!!!!
First time in God knows how many years. I will wear it on holiday next week. I was thinking I would do this when I get to my goal, but decided to go for it.
Bravissimo if anyone's interested. Tops to fit your bra size and high waited bottoms.

WeirdPookah · 16/08/2023 20:26

@Misty84 and @TheRealHousewife I have struggled with hair loss at various points in my life, it used to be so thick as a child, then in my 20's I was under extreme stress and it fell out a lot then. It got better, but never back to anything great, but after having my first child, it fell out badly again, got it cut short to try and re-grow some evenness, then I think a lot of my hair was on the same grow/fall cycle, so having another child, I lost loads again a few months after birth.
Now though it's terrible, my scalp looks shiny through the hair on top. I have been having protein shakes to up my protein, but I have been eating pretty low calorie. At the weight I started at it was the only real solution to dropping enough to be able to be active enough etc.

I don't know if it's worth trying for any sort of Dr appointment, it's impossible to get one even for something serious!

Anyways! Menu and food is weird this week, trying to use things up, doing ok, but my variety of plant foods count for the week is certainly down! Won't be hitting my goal of 40 I don't think.

Misty84 · 16/08/2023 20:57

Thank you @TheRealHousewife!

Aww I’m so sorry to hear this @WeirdPookah. I am similar to you with a shiny scalp through the hair!😟 Yes I have recently had blood tests through the doctor to check thyroid etc…all normal. They’ve just done a few more to try and find the cause, so I’ll get the results soon. Might just be ‘one of those things’ though- caused by stress or god knows what. Unfortunately losing clumps of hair everyday only increases the stress!

Had quite a lot to eat today so it wasn’t very successful!

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 17/08/2023 11:46

I forgot to weigh again. I'm just totally out of routine.
Hair loss is horrible and alarming. After ds it felt like I'd end up bald. I wish mine was thicker but I think I'm now at an age where it's not going to happen. I wonder if those WELL vitamins for hair are any good? Might be worth a try @WeirdPookah.

Yesterday we headed into the Peak District and did an 11 mile walk accompanied by a pub meal, ice cream and sweets. Cost a small fortune. £13 for a wafer thin pizza with hardly any cheese. Then on the way back we stopped by another pub to get a drink and it was over £9 for 3 drinks! I don't go out much at all and it was a shock how much things are now.

Porridge for breakfast is back to being a habit. I must up my water as constipation is still a nightmare and the iron tablets really don't help. I'm totally skint now and need to use what's in the cupboards, fridge, freezer and pantry so meals will be creative at best. I've pizza dough in the freezer along with my pizza/pasta sauce. Eggs and ricotta for a cake although I might use the ricotta for pasta instead seeing as cake upset my stomach so much. Ricotta cake is usually delicious though. Dd loves cake more than anyone but doesn't like any icing or frosting the weirdo. My container of retro birthday cake had strips of icing left in it 😂

Ninjachicken · 17/08/2023 12:46

weighing in at 56.7 kgs this morning, still going through it but starting to come out the other end.
hope everyone else is ok!

WeirdPookah · 17/08/2023 13:20

I lost 1lb this week. 58lbs down total
As this doesn't take me to my 60lbs down, I'm not going to earn it, then lose it going on holiday!

@Misty84 @JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots I just got some Charles Worthington hair serum to try, but going to try when back from holiday in case of allergic reaction or anything. Wondering about collagen supplements as well. I take a general multivitamin anyway, plus started up on extra Vitamin D now for the winter!

Off tomorrow, not many plans to eat out, one day is going to be chips of course, but no restaurant plans this time.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 17/08/2023 14:03

Hello All,
Well done on the losses yesterday! I didn't manage to get on the scales so plan to weigh myself tomorrow. Not expecting a loss as the week has been crazy so to many quick meals and snacks eaten.

DownUdderer · 17/08/2023 23:53

I've weighed in today and I'm a pound down, lovely. I hope I can keep it off!!

Allthegoodnamestakken · 18/08/2023 11:38

@DownUdderer congrats on the loss!

Weighed myself this morning and still sitting at 65.5kg so at least no gain! Reminding myself that when I started this journey I weighed 77.5kg so even though i'm struggling with the last few kgs the fact I have lost 12kg is amazing and I have pretty much kept it off for 6 months now

ImALittlePea · 18/08/2023 14:52

Afternoon all! Sorry for being totally MIA this week, fully thrown myself into holiday stuff and not had the chance to keep up! Hope everyone is well and making sensible choices wherever possible ❤️

WoF for me today - 1/2lb off 🥳 glad to see a little drop during the school holiday, after two weeks of the numbers creeping up. I've been much for mindful this week and not behaving as if I'm on weekend mode every day. I'm not wearing my Garmin any more (and I can't get my current phone to track steps) but we've been out every day and I've had some long, busy shifts so been doing decent steps too.

All in all a 👍 from me to go into the weekend!

Lunch - cheesy chips at the zoo (whoops)
Dinner - chicken, broccoli and asparagus salad

Weatherwax13 · 18/08/2023 19:49

Forgot to add my Wed weigh in. Must get back into the habit. I'm still right on 0.4kg under TW so I'm maintaining ok. Trying to include better nutrition as I've been making incredibly unhealthy choices.

DownUdderer · 21/08/2023 07:47

Quiet on the thread at the moment :)

I've been out for a big walk today, 11.5km, but lots of up and down steps and hills. I walked along the coastal path and ended up at Bondi beach. So beautiful and such a lovely sunny day. My legs are tired out and achy now!

I think my food choices could be better but I'm over all happy. I try my best and just go with the flow most days.

instantpotnoodle · 21/08/2023 08:10

so I’ve hopped on the scales after a big house move, a holiday and generally not doing any exercise or counting calories.

my youngest is 3 in a few weeks and I’m almost the same weight I was the day BEFORE he was born. Over the last 3 years ive lost a bit and gained a lot. So time to reverse that. I’ve got Hashimotos (recent diagnosis) which has probably contributed to some of the struggles, but not kidding myself - I’ve been overeating and not anywhere near as active as I used to be.

SW: 74kg (21.08.23)
GW: 60kg
First milestone: 72.5kg
CW: 74kg

It is quiet - I feel like everyone is making the most of the weather finally being nice and getting out 😁 I certainly have, anyway!

Had a lovely weekend, lots of sunshine, nice food and fizz with good friends. Lots of steps as well. Back to it today; we haven't meal planned this week but my lunch with be either normal cup-a-soup special or a salad if I have enough in. Struggling to choose evening meals, we've got a very busy week ahead so need easy choices and I don't want to only have jacket potatoes 🤦‍♀️

Have a good Monday, all!

MamaGhina · 21/08/2023 16:06

2lbs down, net loss 1lb. Is it really worth it 😂
I’ve not been particularly good this week, hence the lack of updates. I am trying still though and had a salad for lunch today and resisted the ice creams at the park.

MamaGhina · 21/08/2023 16:11

I’ve also joined one of the alcohol free threads. Got to shake off my wine habit. It’s not helping my waistline and I hate the hungover feeling.
