⭐️LOSE IT! August 2023⭐️

Healthy eating in the summer can be tricky to navigate. Summer barbecues, holidays, get togethers with family & friends makes it tougher to stay on track. No one wants to miss out on all the goodies on offer or be seen not joining in. However with forward planning and by setting your intentions you can mitigate any serious undoing of your endeavours. For example having a lighter lunch if you know you’re going for a slap up meal. Eat lighter the following day and keep hydrated to compensate.

Another new month to embrace and re-set to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9.5st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back (mainly) on track. I Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@TheRealHousewife Thanks for the new thread.

The past ten days have been a bit wobbly. Mostly due to wind and rain every day, which limits my time in the garden.

Food plan is Intermittent Fasting. Increasing my fruit and veg, reducing carbs. Setting alarms this evening to include food plan and water. And checking out my health app for steps.

MamaGhina · 31/07/2023 21:12

Hi @TheRealHousewife I’m joining! Will weigh in tomorrow morning and set a goal depending on the result but over August I want to:

  • drink more water
  • eat more fruit and veg
  • get more sleep
I also want to exercise for 30 minutes every day. I know that’s ambitious and I might not hit that target but I need to up my activity levels.
TheRealHousewife · 31/07/2023 21:34

Hi @2Early4Breakfast The July/August holiday months are notoriously difficult to stay on track. We can only do our best 😬

@MamaGhina Welcome to the thread. It’s good to plan! If you find you struggle to get you 30 minutes in, concentrate on getting your general step target up. Every bit helps!

Checking in ✅

How is it August tomorrow?!!

Allthegoodnamestakken · 01/08/2023 06:06

Hello All,
Just checking in and marking my spot.
Eating hasn't been great the last few days and either has exercise. I really need to work on not comfort eating and skipping the gym when stressed or down.
Plan for today
Lunch- Salad, cheese, gluten free crackers
Dinner- Gluten free pasta and a homemade tomato sauce.

greenspaces4peace · 01/08/2023 06:12

Checking in as well ✅

esormirP · 01/08/2023 07:33

I have been feeling really low since March, work has been really getting me down. I have been avoiding stepping on the scales, and definitely comfort eating, getting takeaways instead of cooking.

I bit the bullet this morning and stepped on the scales, 76.7kg… I was ~65kg this time last year.

I am a teacher and start at a new school on the 17th of August(Scotland here). Hopefully that will pick me up and give me the change I need to enjoy work again. Holidays have been a bit rubbish as my husband changed job in early May and missed booking any holidays for the summer. It has also rained practically everyday!!

I have tried a few times this year to get started but haven’t been in the right head space. So hopefully posting will help give me some accountability and keep me straight!

I am planning on No ‘s’ing, that’s where you eat three meals, no snacks, seconds or sweets(meaning pudding) except sometimes on Saturdays and Sundays. If you aren’t loosing, you just reduce your portion size.

todays meal plan is
B.toast and marmite
L. Home made lentil soup
D. Spaghetti bolognaise with hidden veg.

it worked really well for me about 5 years ago. So hopefully it will again!

I also want to exercise for 30 minutes every day. I know that’s ambitious and I might not hit that target but I need to up my activity levels.

After a shocking night’s sleep I’m adding more goals:

  • Decaf coffee only
  • Taking a multivitamin every day
  • Reduce alcohol right down
Weighed myself this morning and I’d like to lose 4lbs this month. If I get control of my evening snacking and make good swaps for fruit and veg, I think that’s possible without it feeling like a huge sacrifice. Best of luck everyone!
ImALittlePea · 01/08/2023 07:53

Checking in! Thanks as ever @TheRealHousewife! How is it August?!

My goals for August are to not go above what is now my ceiling weight. I'm currently 2-and-a-bit lb under that. On top of that, sticking more to my structure of no mid week wines, no crisps or bread in the week (which I failed miserably at in week one of the hols - week two has already started better). A bit harder on the bread front as we're doing picnics as much as possible to keep costs down, but I'm sticking to a wrap and an apple.

I also want to try and fit more exercise in, especially with a holiday abroad now booked in for September, so I'd like to tone my mum tum a bit if I can. I get a lot of steps in at work, but a couple of mini abs focussed hiit sessions a week on top of that and my dance fit class should be enough. It's just pinpointing when and DOING it!

TheRealHousewife · 01/08/2023 08:45

Happy August ☀️ < Wishing it was sunny here!

@MamaGhina A good habit to get into if you're wanting to curb night time munching is to 'Clean & close the kitchen' after your main meal. Double down on that by brushing teeth and drink only water there after 👍

Pleased to see you've joined August
@Cleotheclimber @Allthegoodnamestakken @greenspaces4peace @ImALittlePea 👍The months are flying by! Once the schools return after summer recess it's the countdown to Christmas 🎄 😬

Well I'm a 1lb down overall for July. Better than a gain 👍 I did have a bit of a whoosh early July but most of that reattached 😬

Menu
Meal 1 - Portobello Pizza & salad. Brazil nuts.
Meal 2 - Parmesan coated fish, broccoli and carrots. Greek yoghurt, chopped apple.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Hand weights
Session 2 - Yoga

WeirdPookah · 01/08/2023 09:25

I am finally past all the celebrations! This past long weekend had pizza, brownies and buffet.

Yesterday was on track despite everybody being in a foul mood.
B: Black bean burrito
L: Lentil soup
D: Courgette, lentil bolognaise, low fat polish cheese.

Today, been shopping, hoping the drizzle stops enough to get out for a walk.
B: Black bean burrito
L: Salad, boiled eggs
D: Vegetarian hotdogs, salad.

Thank you for new thread @TheRealHousewife .This is helping me to stay motivated.

TheRealHousewife · 01/08/2023 11:05

Apologies @esormirP I missed your earlier post. Welcome to the thread! Your plan reads sensible and I’m sure you’ll definitely see a loss by this time next week!

You’re very welcome @Bikechic 👍

Hi @WeirdPookah pleased to see you’ve joined again. The Polish cheese sounds interesting … what is it made off … cow, sheep or goat milk? What’s a similar English cheese? I’m 1/4 Lithuanian as one of my grandparents was refugee from there during the War. My full heritage is sketchy as I was adopted.

Hello
I’d like to join . 45 years old and 93kg at my last weight in . Perimenopausal and have been steadily putting on weight over 10 years ( especially the last 2 years) with a lot going on in my life no efforts to lose weight in last 2 years.

I’m made a resolution, told people who are important to me , done a healthy shop and restarted the zero app which sets an IF timer and tracks progress. Just doing a 13 hour fast to start with.
Diet wise I hardly cook any more . I don’t quite know where to start making food now. Would like to meal prep.

Drink more water
Get up and walk 30 mins
Eat between 9am and 8pm
no biscuits crisps or sweets
Reducing carbs and portion sizes

good luck everyone!

timmothysmith01 · 01/08/2023 15:07

I have just started drinking detox water and a regular 30-minute cardio workout.

TheRealHousewife · 01/08/2023 15:37

Welcome @olympicsrock It’s tough I know. In regards to meal prep (and I don’t know how much time you have to prep & cook) it can be really simple. For example a piece of fish with fresh carrots, frozen peas and unpeeled boiled new potatoes. Literally no prep time, short cook time and it’s really healthy providing protein, healthy fats and fibre.

Joining please!!!
Somehow an extra stone has crept onto my hips since last summer! I'm now in the overweight bmi camp and none of my lovely summer trousers from last year fit (not that there's much occasion to wear them at the moment!)
I am dodging carbs and trying to rein myself in over weekends, which are my downfall
SW 11st 3.5lb
Sept TW 10st10 (possibly ambitious....we shall see)

WeirdPookah · 01/08/2023 19:13

@TheRealHousewife the cheese was from Sainsbury's. We used to have a fantastic Polish food store here, we would go and get really delicious things there, and the owner was so friendly and always gave my little girl something, plus they had a mini-trolley! Sadly closed a few years back.

wiltingflower · 01/08/2023 19:47

I'd like to join in with this! Thank you for making the thread 😀

I'm trying to reduce any ultraprocessed foods and try to cook from scratch as possible at home. I've not been cooking over the past few years due to work so really relied on the convenience of ready meals, snacks, half pre cooked type of foods from the supermarket.

My daily goals are to take a multivitamin, drink 1.5L water, 3 meals a day, 10k steps, 1 hour exercise (walking, yoga, stretches etc).

Long term I need work out what sort of eating window I should have- currently I'm trying not to eat after 6 but it's not that effective because my meal times earlier in the day fluctuate. So it's now if I need to eat post 6pm it's a lighter meal.

Today:
B- Porridge oats with apple pieces and cinnamon, white mocha
L- Bread with cheese and tomato chutney
D- Soup
Drinks- water only

I've been making bread every few days at home recently because I'm avoiding ultraprocessed but find it's very heavy in the tummy, so much more heavier than supermarket bread and that means I get really bloated and feel uncomfortably full. This means I'm limiting myself to 1-2 slices and some days trying to avoid bread because I can still feel the heaviness from the day before. The heaviness also means post bread I feel like I have to walk off the meal but it doesn't matter how long I walk for, it doesn't feel better sometimes.

greenspaces4peace · 02/08/2023 05:34

First good day in a while.
I met all my goals which are very tame.
morning weight (didn’t look but obviously gets recorded)
multivits twice a day
water 2L
3 low cal meals; both breakfast and lunch were under 200
30 minutes of exercise and 400 calories burned through daily activity

i hope everyone had a good start to the month

DownUdderer · 02/08/2023 07:34

Hello everyone. Hello August!

I'm going to have pan fried salmon and some veggies for dinner. Yesterday we all had spag bol. I'm still having a few snacks. I really shouldn't.

I'll try and weigh in tomorrow morning if I remember. I often weigh a few times a week to keep track, but if I'm having a chaotic and busy morning I forget.

DownUdderer · 02/08/2023 07:36

I think I lost two pounds in July. I'm disappointed. But as my weight has gone down it's feeling much harder to get rid of the next pound. And if course my snacking has crept up again the last few weeks. I know I shouldn't even buy the snacks in the first place.

Never mind. I'll try again this month.

MamaGhina · 02/08/2023 08:26

I went for a walk yesterday evening when the kids were in bed. So very nearly couldn’t muster the strength. Trying to exercise after being at home with the kids all day is so hard.
That said I did avoid caffeine, I drank more water and increased my fruit and veg, so all good. The only thing was my sleep was pretty awful again. Not sure why, maybe just adjusting to a new routine. I have been going to bed earlier.
