⭐️LOSE IT! August 2023⭐️

Healthy eating in the summer can be tricky to navigate. Summer barbecues, holidays, get togethers with family & friends makes it tougher to stay on track. No one wants to miss out on all the goodies on offer or be seen not joining in. However with forward planning and by setting your intentions you can mitigate any serious undoing of your endeavours. For example having a lighter lunch if you know you’re going for a slap up meal. Eat lighter the following day and keep hydrated to compensate.

Another new month to embrace and re-set to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight as well as those who wish to maintain; to encourage a healthy & varied diet and exercise.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9.5st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back (mainly) on track. I Would love to wave bye to another half a stone 😬 The main thing is to never give up! Keep going!

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Hi all, I am late to the august thread because I forgot about the month changing!
weighing in at 57.3 kgs this morning
goals for this month are to make sensible food choices, walk more and be kinder to myself
things are still difficult for me but I am trying to stay strong
thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife

MamaGhina · 04/08/2023 08:23

@DownUdderer 9km is fantastic, how long did that take? I do 30 mins in the evening once the kids are in bed but it’s already quite late by then and I’ve been doing a little stretch before and after because my legs ache the next day. By the time I’ve had my shower it’s gone 9pm.

Last night I slept well for the first time all week. DH left me to lie in and I’ve only just got up! Feel so refreshed, I really needed that.

I’m out for dinner tonight and after my fabulous night of sleep I’m going to try and not drink alcohol because that can really mess my sleep up. Will be difficult as I don’t get to go out much Grin

Have a good day everyone!

esormirP · 04/08/2023 08:30

I managed to avoid eating the end of the kids pizza yesterday!! Definitely a win, but was so hungry at their swimming I had a twix… i maybe need to think about a healthy snack to take with me.

At work I take a pot of carrots, sugar snap peas and mini sweetcorn, or whatever veg I can chop up in the morning. However I don’t fancy sittings eating veg in the pool
cafe.

I know as I get more into the no s’ing (no snacks, second or sweets, except for sometime on days starting with a s) I will stop feeling hungry.

todays plan
B: Toast and marmite
L: roll and sausage
D: jambalaya

hopefully will manage not to snack at all!

Happy Good Morning GIF by DINOSALLY

Good Morning

Hi @greenspaces4peace It’s tough to get true balance within all parameters. It really is, especially as we get older. I aim for ‘on balance’ and reckon 2 out of 3 is good enough for me (it has to be 😬) ❤️

@DownUdderer Excellent distance! Well done 👏. Being near the coast sounds lovely. Do you have any photos? No pressure if you’re not comfortable 🙂

@Ninjachicken Im pleased you found us, especially when you’ve so much going on in your life. Certainly be kinder to yourself ❤️

@MamaGhina Great to hear you slept well! Sleep is so important for all sorts of things. Wherever possible people should prioritise good sleep and sleep hygiene 👍(for example no electronics an hour or so before bed, tough to do I know)

That’s a great swerve @esormirP. Pizza is addictive! Healthy snack idea too!

Menu
Meal 1 - Undecided - Omelette versus burrito 😬 Apple. Pecans.
Meal 2 - Home made spaghetti bolognaise and gf pasta. Parmesan.
Tea. Black coffee and water.

Happy Friday everyone!!
Well I'm 1lb down since the 1st, despite a bit of a carby treat past night (garlic bread.... my absolute fave!) So the challenge is to not just put it all back on over the weekend, which is what I usually do!
@TheRealHousewife go on, have the burrito, you can do a review for us Wink
Have lovely day all!

ImALittlePea · 04/08/2023 09:56

Seems my post this morning failed 🙄

Gain of just over 1lb this week. Not surprised - my resolve decided to go on holiday for the week 😬 it's not been all bad choices, but there's been a lack of resolve around that. For instance, picnic yesterday - I packed a big tub of veggies and some red pepper houmous, and a bottle of sparkling water. I wasn't particularly hungry after, but my toddler left half her sandwich and I ate that. Along with some of the pringles the kids have. We had our planned dinner (corned beef hash and beans) and I went to my dance class, but came home with major munchies and decided to indulge them with some cheese, crackers and grapes, tortillas with dip, and a big cookie 🤦‍♀️ and some wine. Oopsie.

I'm still 1lb under my ceiling weight, so now's the time to refocus and try to undo the gain. Not today though, I've got a cheese and fizz evening with some friends tonight 😁🍾

Onwards and inwards! I'll catch up on others posts later on. Have a good day gang!

TheRealHousewife · 04/08/2023 10:26

@HowIsItAugustAlready Im going to enter the burrito ingredient’s into mfp and see how it fares 👍 🤞

@ImALittlePea It’s always disappointing when the number goes up! A lb either way could be down to natural fluctuations 🤞. If you’re trajectory over time is down you’re winning 😬

Flipping fed up of the rain ☔️☔️☔️☔️

@TheRealHousewife @HowIsItAugustAlready we have been having it for breakfast for years, I use wholemeal wraps for extra fibre, comes in at 400 calories a breakfast when I have a coffee with hot milk too. 21g protein, 15g fat, 42g carbs, 9g fibre.

Today been for a fairly long walk, to uniform shop to get a few new uniform for school, went to the independent greengrocers and got my first English plums of the season, so good!

B: Greek 5% yogurt, tinned pineapple
L: Cold vegetables I roasted yesterday, honey oat bread
D: Peanut Miso tofu with broccoli
plums for snack!

ImALittlePea · 04/08/2023 15:26

Yes always disappointing @TheRealHousewife but as I say, not surprised in the slightest, and still under my goal weight so not a disaster.

TheRealHousewife · 04/08/2023 19:54

@WeirdPookah I tried your Burrito recipe. In a word tasty delicious 😋. I added grated garlic to the roast pepper and Jalapeños mix and used grated mozzarella rather than my sliced cheese (too thick and not bendy). I also warmed my black beans. As my wraps were on the small size they were folded in half rather than rolled iyswim. Will defo have again. Macros absolutely fine.

@ImALittlePea Great that you’re still under your goal weight 👍

I've just weighed in this morning. I'm a pound down and I'm very pleased with that.

Here's a photo of a local beach from a couple of weekends ago :) very picturesque. I've scribbled over ds.

⭐️ LOSE IT! August 2023 ⭐️
DownUdderer · 05/08/2023 01:23

The Beach does have sand, but it's not in this photo :)

We've had lots of humpback whales going past. You can often see them splashing and breaching. Very exciting to see.

greenspaces4peace · 05/08/2023 04:07

very peaceful @DownUdderer
nice steady day here and all is well.
the water, multivits, meal choices, LIGHT fitness etc etc etc.
i'm sure i will be brave enough to look at the scale come monday.
tomorrow is a 5am start with dh and i leaving for the farmers market by 0630.
honey sales in full swing with about 250 kg sold and 500 to go...

esormirP · 05/08/2023 08:29

I was really good yesterday, stuck to the plan, until 8pm

then my friend came over and we shared a bottle of wine, had some crisps and dips which sage brought with her and a few giant chocolate buttons.

going to put that little binge down an s day and they to stick to the plan today instead.

B. Toast and marmite
L: home made soup from the freezer
D: home made pizza sauce

MamaGhina · 05/08/2023 10:29

I have a hangover Blush
I was really good with the food I chose last night but drank too much and feeling it today. I managed my exercise yesterday so pleased about that. Will probably do a YouTube weights tutorial once I get out of bed…

WeirdPookah · 05/08/2023 12:35

@TheRealHousewife I just put the whole thing in the microwave for a minute! Glad you enjoyed, it's a great savoury breakfast that's quick without eggs.

Today we popped out in the rain (soooo many tourists in plastic bag emergency mac's!) as I needed to go to the retail park other end of town.
Ate some white bread at breakfast, as at the greengrocers yesterday, they also stock a local bakery's things, and my children wanted the huge barm cake type things as big as their face, so we shared 2 between us!

B: 2/3 barm cake, ghee fried eggs, baked beans
L: Miso mushrooms, mixed vegetables with soy sauce
D: Homemade Blue masa tortillas, roast peppers, vegan pulled no-pork, refried beans, pica de gallo

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 05/08/2023 18:12

Hello, can I join?

Have a 12 week old baby. My main goals are: get back to exercising, increase fruit and veg, reduce unhealthy snacking (I've basically lived on biscuits).

Longer term goal: to get back to "healthy" BMI range (currently top end of overweight)

Vettrianofan · 05/08/2023 18:16

Have just put a new battery in the scales and felt brave enough to weigh myself. Three stone overweight. Checked BMI calculator for guidance so I know what kind of weight I have piled on. Absolutely disgusted with myself.

Stopped antidepressants earlier this week, after seeking guidance from GP. Want to get back into cycling and walking once schools go back. Have no one to blame but myself. My clothes haven't been fitting right for around six months, possibly longer.

Joining this thread to make myself accountable. Good luck everyone with their own weight loss journey 🤞

MamaGhina · 05/08/2023 20:53

Big welcome to both @IWillBeWaxingAnOwl and @Vettrianofan.
I put on 3 stone when pregnant and then lost it and then another 3 stone when pregnant again. Wasn’t so easy to lose the second time.
I got over my hangover(!) and did my weights for 30 minutes. Will weigh myself on Sunday morning but think the problem sleeping was sugar withdrawal. Partly because it seems to have passed and partly because I realised I’ve massively cut back on sugar but having the same amount of caffeine as usual.
I’m hoping for a pound a week this month.

Vettrianofan · 06/08/2023 06:16

@MamaGhina the problem is I am not even pregnant 😫 I also did this four times after each pregnancy and lost the weight. Unfortunately I am older now and finding it harder to shift. I can't blame alcohol because I rarely drink. It's just cakes, around birthdays, and sweets. It's been sobering jumping on the scales yesterday. I have hip pain, now recently noticed my knee pains in the last few months so I really do need to act.

Oatycookies · 06/08/2023 06:42

Hi all, I’ve did a fair bit of (UK-wide) work travel in June and July where it was harder to keep up my meal and exercise plans ( I have an online fitness trainer) but really hoping to lose close to 4 pounds this month . I’m late 30s and current weight is 11stone/70KG. I peaked at 13 stone during the pandemic. Goal weight is 9.5 stone.

goals this month : exercise for one hour a day and to reduce my UPF and sugar consumption and sleep before midnight . I’ve did so for past couple of days and today my stomach (which is very large!) is looking slightly flatter.

heading to the gym to walk on the treadmill and today I’ll eat homemade granola & high protein yoghurt, a banana and avocado protein smoothie for lunch and chicken, veg and rice .

If I fancy snacks I’ll grill some frozen veg I have but I tend to have decent sized meals and avoid snacks if possible.

WeirdPookah · 06/08/2023 11:26

Done a whole load of cleaning this morning, ended up hot and sweaty so has to be some level of exercise!

Trying hard to keep to plan over this weekend, after the last week was such a lot of days off plan. It's a lot harder for me to keep to things with weekends, and school holidays. We have another week away in Wales planned for a couple weeks time, but as everybody felt ill eating junk on holiday last time, we all want to eat better this time, but as I pointed out it's meant to be a holiday for me too, so I can't be expected to cook as I do at home.

B: Banana waffles, blueberries, greek 5% yogurt, cashew butter
L: Mixed vegetables, quorn nuggets, kimchi
D: Broccoli, vegetable sauce

esormirP · 06/08/2023 15:15

Ok so ate to plan yesterday, but we ordered in ice cream Sundays for dessert… they were lovely.

todays plan
B: breakfast bar
L: left over pizza
D boiled gammon, cauliflower cheese, roasties and mixed veg.

Happy Sunday GIF by kimburgerly

Where has the weekend gone 😮 Twice I’ve picked up iPad to post then got sidetracked. Better late than never 😬

@DownUdderer That scene looks absolutely idyllic, very tranquil. Thank you for sharing ❤️

@greenspaces4peace Hope you have successful sales at the honey market 🍯👍I’d buy some if you were nearer 😬

@esormirP We all have days like that where we have unplanned for but very much needed off plan days. They are good for the soul! Like you say, best plan is compensating the following day. Win/win.

@MamaGhina Hope the hangover cleared 😬

@WeirdPookah I no longer have a microwave. I had one years ago and managed to microwave something and somehow sewing needles had got in the bottom (don’t ask) and it burst into flames 🔥 Very scary!

Welcome to the thread @IWillBeWaxingAnOwl and congratulations on your new baby 🥳

@Vettrianofan Well done on braving the scales! I was about 3.5stones overweight when I started and I’ve lost 3 stones. It’s daunting but doable. Break it down into smaller goals and you’ll soon see progress 👍

Welcome to the thread @Oatycookies 👍 well done on your loss to date!

@TheRealHousewife yes the saturday market is much busier than the previous years at the wednesday market and of course more people walking through than what we "reach" on the neighborhood web site.
two weeks in july, we were the first honey vendors so lots of people were anticipating honey and we sold 6 dozen, the following week again we were the sole honey vendors and again sold 5 dozen. i put up a neighborhood fb post and sold 60 again over 3 hours.
this saturday there were 3 other vendors (one was selling last years stock still...) but we managed to sell 50 which is much better than i expected (knowing there were two others basically selling an identical product).
now what does all this have to do with weight loss...0500 start to the day, standing still till 1pm in the sun with noise hustle and bustle. the market food though doesn't really temp me and we pack lunches and nibbles mainly to not waste $$. but by the time we are home and unpacked my resolve is depleted, i've amassed nearly no steps or exercise and both of us are exhausted. this exhaustions runs into sunday whereby we start the process all over again and as i type i have 6 dozen jars getting sterilized.
but my food choices are at least healthy ones (two fresh ears of corn on the cob for supper with warm from the sun cherry tomatoes).
lots of water being drank and the multivits easily fitting into the routine.
we must be near the half way point, with half the honey sold and half yet to sell.
it is fun to meet people and chat superficially to strangers, honey is an interesting product people either want it or not so there is not much "selling" to do.
sadly the stuff doesn't mail well (heavy 1kg glass jars) but it is nice stuff.
