30 Days Shred

LeatherSkirt82 · 18/04/2023 08:11

Hey everyone, I just started 30 days shred yesterday and am about to do day 2 now but I can see how, with the increase in soreness, I may struggle to keep at it…so hoping to find a Shred Buddy here to keep each other accountable and motivated.

Anyone else did it? Maybe you can share your results to help us newbies keep the focus?

I did it years ago, and coincidentally did level 3 yesterday just for a change. It’s a really great program and Jillian is very inspirational. Even now that I have graduated to Caroline Girvan and running, I still hear Jillian in my head when things are tough.

Keep going - by Day 30 you will be so proud you gave yourself this gift.

LeatherSkirt82 · 18/04/2023 15:29

Thank you for the encouragement @Worldgonecrazy - I did day 2 but my muscles have been in agony since this morning... struggling to go down the stairs. I know tomorrow will be the real challenge but am determined to push through. No pain no gain, right?!

It’s honestly such a great 20 minute workout. As she says it’s the compound moves that are so effective. I bought it on Amazon so now wherever I am in the world I can hear the audio on my phone and do it in any gym. You only need a mat, water and hand weights. If you stick to it you really do get great results. ‘I don’t want you to phone this in!!!!’

Worldgonecrazy · 18/04/2023 15:50

I can’t remember which workout (not shred) where she says @You got this! This is easy for you.” And my particular favouritel: “Screw the one piece!” In reference to choice of beach clothing 😎

Nitw1t · 18/04/2023 15:55

I've done the shred loads. It's amazing.

Day 3 is the absolute worst. By day 5 it'll be much less sore. Keep going!!

NB be very kind to your knees, keep squats shallow if they are hurting and you'll get there eventually.

Monkeytapper · 18/04/2023 15:57

Wow, how weird, I started it yesterday too!!, did it a few years ago …feel a bit achey today and I wasn’t going to do it….but having seen this thread I’m going to do it now…so this will be day 2 for me.

If I remember correctly I only got to level 2 last time…when I tried level 3 I just found it too hard…..but I’m fitter now as I run 3 times a week so hoping I can manage level 3 when the time comes.

LeatherSkirt82 · 19/04/2023 06:32

Thank you all! Woke up with sore quads and arms but will push through today. I feel that if I can do that - then I’ll be able to hang on to that knowledge that I already pushed through a hard bit to carry me through other hard bits.

@Monkeytapper welcome! Let’s do this together- I’ve never done it before and right now I can’t even imagine level 3 but I’m going to challenge myself and do it every day because I want to see those results and because I need to get fitter!

My quads feel a bit 😝 when I sit down to go to the loo!

I was planning on doing it 5 times a week with 2 rest days….I have to mute Jillian though and just put different music on the Alexa whilst doing it.

LeatherSkirt82 · 19/04/2023 08:01

I am a bit afraid to allow myself rest days because that’s usually how I fall off the wagon :)

OP posts:
Monkeytapper · 19/04/2023 08:36

she does recommend 1-2 rest days a week, but yes, I know what you mean…plus it gets it out of the way if you do it every day….just about to do day 3 now 💪

LeatherSkirt82 · 19/04/2023 08:39

I just did day 3 - cardio was definitely more difficult today but I found strength easier. Proud of myself a little for pushing through the pain with only one 5sec break.

YY to minding the knees, especially when she introduces those plyometric jumping ones in the harder levels - I have to be really careful with lunges now after a period of over-zealous shredding.

If you need some distraction, watch out for Anita and Natalie occasionally slacking off/getting the moves wrong. I honestly don't know how, but even after a bazillion viewings, Jillian's commentary is still weirdly motivating.

Monkeytapper · 19/04/2023 09:09

Day 3 done….not sure I will ever be able to do the full press up, I’ve no upper body strength. Got run club tonight, so approx 7k, will see what my thighs think of that !

Worldgonecrazy · 19/04/2023 09:40

Keep going with the press ups. Try to build up to one proper press up. It takes time. I could barely manage to drop an inch, and now I can do 15 chest to floor proper press ups.

I switched back to level 2 last night - that 2 minutes cardio is tough!

LeatherSkirt82 · 20/04/2023 08:32

Day 4 done. I did find it easier to do strength and abs but struggled a bit with the cardio at the very start (still only 1 five sec break). Maybe my warm up is lacking as I had no
problems seeing cardio through in circuits 2 and 3?

Quads still hurting but it’s not too bad - I kind of like the reminder that something is happening and it’s helping me stay on course with my diet as well.

@LeatherSkirt82 well done!…. Day 4 completed for me after work….I am having a rest day tomorrow, got parkrun on Saturday so will do Day 5 then 😊

LeatherSkirt82 · 21/04/2023 15:46

Day 5 completed this morning. I can definitely see progress now in terms of how much I can do but also in terms of how clothes fit. I was able to zip the jeans that 2w ago were gaping and that made me quite happy (and even more determined to see full 30 days through).

Monkeytapper · 22/04/2023 13:46

Day 5 done this morning after parkrun 👌

LeatherSkirt82 · 22/04/2023 17:40

Well done! I forced myself to get up at 7 to do day 6 before everyone else got up. I am noticing increase in overall fitness for sure but im still doing only modified exercises so I think I will probably have to stick with this level for longer than 10days before graduating to level 2. I wonder if it makes more sense to do something like level 1 10 days modified, 10 days full and then Level 2. Or do Level 1 10 days modified, Level 2 10 days modified and when I finish all three as modified - repeat all 30 days at full?

OP posts:
Monkeytapper · 22/04/2023 17:51

I would see how it goes , not sure I will ever be able to do the full press up……I remember getting to level 3 and that’s when I sacked it off completing, so day 21/22 as I just couldn’t do it, but this time I will have a go, and if not will drop down a level but give it some welly…as long as I do 30 days of whatever level I will be pleased.
It’s early days but I got a parkrun PB today! Fastest ever 5k, so chuffed with that so maybe my stamina is improving. Glad I’ve found this thread as I don’t think I would've got past day 3.

I’m doing it as I started HRT patches 3 months ago and I’ve put in a bit of weight since I’ve started them, also just come back from holiday and want to tone up a bit before I go away again.

Monkeytapper · 22/04/2023 18:01

I’m 44, 5ft 7….10 1/2 stone on a good day but been tipping the scales at 11 stone since going on HRT and it’s been pissing me off.

Monkeytapper · 23/04/2023 15:49

Day 6 done

LeatherSkirt82 · 24/04/2023 12:51

Day 8 done. I woke up feeling pretty miserable so I'm pleased with myself for pushing through... I am wavering today, no question about it - feeling bloated, heavy and nervous. Not sure what's going on as nothing external happening and had a pretty nice, relaxing weekend with family.

OP posts:
Monkeytapper · 24/04/2023 13:00

@LeatherSkirt82 well done for doing it!..did you have a rest day yesterday?

LeatherSkirt82 · 24/04/2023 13:10

No no rest day since I started! I wonder if that's why I'm feeling all down? My fitbit suggests that my readiness score is low but I didn't struggle so much with the exercise (though it's still pretty hard, and I am starting to do some of them in full) - it is the overall mood that took a plunge today in a very uncharacteristic way.
