Spring is right around the corner so it’s time to embrace a fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes

@TrollMunter I feel ya! When that's happened to me in the past: drink copious amounts of water. Set a strict time window in which you'll have your meals. And kitchen closes after that. Plan the week's groceries and menu and don't deviate. Brush teeth and have a big glass of water every time you're temped to stray.

Anddon't beat yourself up. There's always a temptation to feel like a failure and throw the towel in after a "lapse". It's honestly not the end of the world. I'm feeling down after a gain this week but it's not always linear.

Thank you. Good advice! Am chugging water right now!

AutisticLegoLover · 06/03/2023 06:28

Morning all. The silly cat had me up 40 mi utes before my alarm so I thought I might as well get up. It's ok for her because she'll sleep most of the day once she comes back in in about an hour.

My oats and chia are soaking ready for breakfast. I'll be having Greek yogurt and berries for lunch, dinner I do t know yet.

I should clock you 10 miles today after a weekend spent at home doing not a lot.

Have a great day everyone.

Lionnose · 06/03/2023 07:32

Morning all, I weighed this morning at 63.4kg. Which is better than I expected. I hope I can make slow progress towards my goal as I eat a lot and I don't seem to be able to eat less without then having a binge. So slow and steady for me I hope. All the posts have been inspiring me so thank you all

Ninjachicken · 06/03/2023 08:53

New week, new start! Except it’s DH’s birthday tomorrow 🤦‍♀️😂
postive thinking, healthy choices
B: yoghurt, blueberries, oats
L: pitta with cheese and salad
D: taking inspiration from @AutisticLegoLover and going to roast some butternut squash for soup . Yours sounds delicious 😋
have a good week everyone !

@NatM15588 well done on your 2lb loss last week and the 3st overall is fantastic! Disneyland will be amazing, I loved it. Have you been before? I remember doing a lot of walking!

@LadyWhistledownAteMyHamster @smokeyrabbit @USaYwHatNow how are you all getting on? Hope you’re still with us.

Thank you @SingaporeSlinky yes I am still here! I've had a bit of a struggle of a week. I'm a long term member of SW but it isn't working for me (probably down to me rather than the plan if I am honest). I work in the NHS and The Body Coach put out an offer last week for 12 weeks free subscription to his app, so I thought I would try that, but my head is mashed as it is so different to the more traditional weight loss clubs. So I don't think i will see a loss on the scales come Wednesday as I try to figure out what I am doing!

TheRealHousewife · 06/03/2023 09:10

Good Morning Everyone

We’ve had a great break. The spa was an added bonus. Back to it now. Food wise I’ve been sensible but somewhat off track. Only on one evening did I have the full starter, main and dessert but that was all I had that day. Had some fancy salads which were delicious. Only had a couple of glasses of wine the entire break and enjoyed what I had but I’m not that fussed about it. To be honest only indulged to please my OH who hates drinking alone in public. Going food shopping and running errands today so will try my best to catch up with all of you later.

Menu
Meal 1 - Minestrone Soup.
Meal 2 - Chicken tray bake with red peppers, sweet potatoes, Cauli and carrots.
Tea, black coffee & water.

Exercise
Session 1 - Hand Weights
Session 2 - 10 mins yoga.

Have a great week!

Morning all! Glad you had a lovely break @TheRealHousewife and sounds like you were very sensible as always.

Setting my weekly intentions:
3 gym classes
1 extra long walk
arm weights
more protein
stay away from Kit Kats 😆

Fara22 · 06/03/2023 10:07

Sounds like a few tricky weekends! I think I was mostly at maintenance or just over, calorie-wise over the weekend. Bit annoyed with myself. None of it was really worth it.

Thinking about how not to completely throw in the towel is interesting. I have an event in a couple of weeks time, and I was hoping to have lost more weight before I went. It's really tempting to say "sod it, why bother now, two weeks isn't going to make a difference." But I will try not to! It's plodding forward long term, rather than a short dash isn't it.

I do look better in my dress already (more of a waist) and I'm trying to focus on finding some new shoes.

Intentions for this week:
3 x Pilates
10,000 steps every day
Protein focus
No salt and vinegar crisps!

Good luck everyone

buzzofthebumblebee · 06/03/2023 11:17

Glad you had a lovely time away OP.

And yes, been there & done that with the bingeing , feel rubbish. Most important thing is to draw a line, start next day new and don't look back. look forward. Dig deep for positive motivation, drink loads of water.

And yes Fara - you can SO make a difference in 2 weeks !! I actually find having something to work towards a huge incentive. Do you want to look even more fabulous in your dress and feel great in yourself? Or do you want the biscuits? When it's only 2 weeks away, easy to say no to the snacking. YOU CAN DO IT !!! Personally, no processed sugar (or wine) for 2 weeks reduces the body bloat too. Face looses its puffiness too, and with a bit of makeup and blusher, makes me feel even better!! (Can't say it emphasises cheekbones because I have a round face to start).

Again, too frightened to face the scales this morning, but maybe that's a good thing. Was a daily weigher before.

Happy Monday all. We've got this!

Cloudberries123 · 06/03/2023 11:36

Morning everybody from my sofa where I am having tea and mini cheddars, hoping that they will give me the oomph I'm lacking after being awake in the night with DD. I'm at home today and doing a major blitz of housework.

As an interesting dimension to PPs discussion of 2 weeks until an event being tempting to throw in the towel vs an incentive to buckle down... Does anyone else find their 'during weight loss' body shape a bit odd and not like it? Now that I've been steadily (if slowly) losing for some months, my shape is different - it's come off my thighs, waist and collarbones first, making the rest look even more chubby and apple-shaped 😂 In some ways I feel like a teenager with a rapidly changing body, not sure how I feel about that! I don't want to put the weight back on for health/self-esteem reasons but I feel I was more in proportion when bigger!

Breakfast - tea, coffee, water, ham sandwich

Snack - tea, water, mini cheddars

Lunch - 2x boiled eggs, random freezer veg, apple, orange

Dinner - chicken and veg tray bake, rice

WolfMother326 · 06/03/2023 12:31

@Cloudberries123 I know what you mean. I always lose in my face and torso first, then my thighs and bottom seem huge til I lose more. I guess its just where our bodies store fat?

I've been having a mixed week. My mother has been visiting and she doesn't eat very well (she has had majorly disordered eating my whole life, I've mostly not followed the example). She brought me a couple of special donuts which my husband and I cut up and else ate most but I had a little. We also got pizza Friday night. But for the most part I've stayed on track, not snacking or having biscuits, and I managed one run on Sunday. Will try to go again today or tomorrow. I'm trying to remind myself little mistakes don't matter very much its about the long term changes.

MKD1 · 06/03/2023 14:27

Hey All, my first week of IF done! weighed myself again this morning:
SW: 165lbs
CW: 160lbs

Loss of 5 lbs. I am very happy with this. Hopefully it continues! The plan this week was to start long walks (1hour) but with the rain today it may not happen. Hoping to just do a quick workout at home even if it's once this week. Slowly but surely.

Happy Monday All :)

SingaporeSlinky · 06/03/2023 15:50

@MKD1 great result for week 1. How did you find IF? Hope that gives you more motivation for the weeks ahead, even if the rate of loss slows a little, keep going!

I did a 30 min LBT class this morning, then 25 mins gentle spinning. Just hit 12,000 steps.

Usual lunch, a few biscuits (bought my favourite ones when I saw them in the supermarket on offer 🤦‍♀️)
Dinner will be sausages with a quinoa salad. Coming in at 1100 cals again.

I need to try to avoid just sitting around all afternoon watching tv, so will have a think about that.

Fara22 · 06/03/2023 19:04

@buzzofthebumblebee This is the approach I'm taking this time! No point giving in and hitting the burgers and being 7lbs heavier and puffier, when I could instead be several pounds down and happier! Have just booked to get my nails done and did a face mask this morning.

12,500 steps, a good Pilates session today and sensible eating.

icecreamisforwintertoo · 06/03/2023 19:35

Have done terribly over the weekend on a hen do. Food wasn’t so bad but drank copious prosecco. Now back on track - healthy eating today (low fat, low sugar, low ish GI) and went for a run at lunchtime

greenspaces4peace · 06/03/2023 19:39

i'd have to admit last week was not a success at staying clear of bread or nuts.
too scared to step on the scale this am :(
but so far (it's only 11;30 am) i'm on track, trying to decrease carbs and increase my fiber intake.
B: greek yogurt, fruit stew, oat bran and chia seeds. 221cal.

Thank you! I actually found it pretty easy, weekend was tough but as long as I keep myself busy it's fine.

Also I've never had as water as I have been drinking the past week. I'm happy with the result.....but.....we've just had 'chippy' for dinner. I still don't regret it! I couldn't finish off My usual order and didn't force myself to eat more so I don't felt sick after wards. So for me that's good. Won't be checking my weight till ne,g Monday now 🤣 . But my lunches have been healthy, eggs with seeded bread. Or a quick stir fry. I'm hoping it doesn't rain tomorrow so I can do a walk and not feel bad for having a kebab tonight! Hehe

SingaporeSlinky · 06/03/2023 20:31

Not sure why I don’t have quinoa more often! Low cal, high protein. I had it with cucumber, tomatoes, olives, pine nuts, a bit of sweetcorn and lemon juice. So easy and really enjoyed it. Just one sausage with it, so 423 calories all in, if I’ve recorded correctly.

greenspaces4peace · 07/03/2023 02:08

okay a good day over here i'm certainly feeling better for it!!
positive thoughts for everyone needing to jump back on the grind of being careful with food choices.

AutisticLegoLover · 07/03/2023 06:38

Morning all. It was so much k

AutisticLegoLover · 07/03/2023 06:52

I'll try again. It was so much lighter at 6am today and there's going to be some sun. Yesterday was horrible.
My new Fitbit arrived yesterday. Finally. I'm sure it said 3 day delivery but it took a week as it came from the Netherlands. I'm looking forward to trying it out today and if I get any spare time I'm going to try a work out with the weights I've bought.

B: usual porridge
L: usual Greek yogurt and berries
D: no idea

Im hoping to clock 10 miles again today. My weight is slowly shifting but my abdomen is much slimmer now. I get a very pregnant looking belly thanks to IBS and endometriosis but find eating smaller quantities really helps the bloating and it's much flatter. I look down and don't see a big round mound any more and that's a great feeling. My friend keeps commenting on my face looking thinner but I'm not sure I'd notice that so much. I'll check out my chins in the mirror later 😁 Clothes are definitely loser. My jacket has a big space where my stomach used to be. Same for my hoodies. It's weird because I know I've lost weight but I'm not sure I feel any different or really look any different. I must look different though if people are commenting and I'm down nearly 10kg since the summer. Weight is weird as is how we feel about it.

Have a good day everyone and don't forget your water. I've been rubbish for not drinking much lately.

ginsparkles · 07/03/2023 07:24

Hi all, so with tooth removal and a fancy meal out the damage on the scales makes me want to cry!

Refocused and away we go. 4 weeks until I go on holiday.

Trying to plan today but not sure what to do this evening as I have to rush in, grab something and go to the theatre.

Cereal for breakfast. Thinking I might take a pouch of rice for lunch with some tomatoes and then make a quick salad when I get in.

Ninjachicken · 07/03/2023 07:55

I feel exactly the same @ginsparkles how can it take so long to come off and then it goes back on soooo quickly!!!!!
birthday in our house today so that will be tricky with cake and fizz.
yesterday there was nothing in so we ended up with fish fingers, potatoes and beans for dinner.
going to try and have a better second half of the week.
it’s definitely feeling an uphill struggle at the moment . My holiday has really upset my routine and willpower and I need to get the motivation back!

TheRealHousewife · 07/03/2023 09:00

Good Morning All

Thank you @SingaporeSlinky, it was lovely and over far too quickly.

@greenspaces4peace Sending a hug ❤️ You’ll soon be back on it. Weigh loss/healthy eating does ebb and flow. Perhaps your body needed something.

@MKD1 Thats a marvellous result! Well done!

@ginsparkles Hope the tooth issue is soon resolved! Like I said to green’ you’ll soon be back in groove👍 Be kind to yourself ❤️

@Fara22 It’s good you’ve identified it would be so easy to think sod it and chuck in the towel due to a future event. Remaining mindful of what you’re eating up to that point will give you some wiggle room as well as helping you feel good and vibrant. That way you’ll also be looking more svelte in 2 weeks time. Good step count 👍

@AutisticLegoLover I love receiving a new gadget… enjoy! The bloated tummy you described … are you gluten intolerant? (I can’t remember if I’ve asked you before or not) Before I was diagnosed with celiac disease I used to look like I was near full term 😧 Really severe bloating and pain to the point I’d have visible bruises on my abdomen.

@WolfMother326 Definitely the long term healthy habits matter more than short term discrepancies 👍

Menu
Meal 1 - Minestrone Soup (current favourite batch soup and makes lunches easy)
Meal 2 - Salmon, Cauli & red pepper ‘rice’. Greek yoghurt, blueberries & raspberries.
Tea, black coffee, water.
Total Calories = 1180.

Exercise
Session 1 - Walking vid
Session 2 - Hand weights

Hello All
Checking in again, slowly getting my mojo back although scales where up 2kg this morning which was disheartening even though I know realistically I won't have gained 2kg in 4 days.
Plan of action:
Get back into intermittent fasting 5 days a week
Drag myself to crossfit at least twice a week
Less bread-based lunches and back to more fruit, veg, salads etc.
Hoping this will at least get me back to maintaining and then I can start pushing to loose again.
