Spring is right around the corner so it’s time to embrace a fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes

Hope everyone's having a good day!

tulipsandteacups · 22/03/2023 19:01

Hey everyone,

So far today I've had ...

Breakfast- Yoghurt fruit & cereal

Snack- Protein bar

Lunch - rice, lentils and veg

Snack - Handful cashews

Dinner -Salmon & veg

10k steps. I now want something sweet. But thinking maybe I should wait til tomorrow.....

Needing some motivation

Puffalicious · 22/03/2023 19:44

Hey folks,

Sorry to drag the thread down, but I'm really down today. Weighed in and despite calorie counting so carefully (1000-1300 daily depending) and it only being my 2md week the scales showed a 1lb gain 😪. I had a cry in the car on the way to work.

It's so hard. I find it so hard to not eat my favourite things and then after all the effort I gain..I just feel like there's little point. I'm peri- menopausal and feeling low anyway (I'm usually such a positive, energetic person) and this pushed me over the edge. I'm angry and upset at the same time.

I've put on 1.5 stones due to peri I think, and maybe that's why it's not shifting, but I'm so bloody done with it.

Stayed within calories today (after my time for eating now) despite wanting to just eat chocolate to drown my sorrows. But feeling like what's the point?

It doesn't help that I'm surrounded by DH and 3 DC (all boys) who eat their weight in food and look exactly the same, and 2 BFs who eat loads more than me, are naturally slim and look good in paper sacks!

Sorry for the drudge.

AutisticLegoLover · 22/03/2023 19:54

@Puffalicious how bloody rude of your scaies! I'd trade them in for a more supportive pair! A pound could be fluid due to hormones or salt but I know it's frustrating. Keep going, it might just be a blip and it probably is a blip and you'll see a drop soon. I'm sorry I can't remember your starting and goal weights or where you currently are or when you started but I'm hoping you've seen some positive movement and it spurs you on. You are more than a number on a scale, more than a dress size, more than a comparison to anyone else, you are you and you are awesome and you will get there because here you are telling us instead of drowning your worries in chocolate. That takes courage and shows commitment so please hoick up your bosom, stick your finger up at the scales and tell them to shove it up their manufactured arse and have a cup of tea and watch something funny or read something or whatever works. Tomorrow will be a day closer to your goal even if the scars don't yet agreeFlowers

AutisticLegoLover · 22/03/2023 19:59

*scales. The scales might have scars if they aren't careful!

^This with bells on @AutisticLegoLover you have a gift with words! @Puffalicious you can do it!! So sorry you are having a bad day. Looking forward to hearing your loss next week xxx

Puffalicious · 22/03/2023 21:20

That is so bloody lovely AutisticLegoLover you've got me weepy again!

I know I'm more than a dress size, I just look in the mirror and don't feel like me. And my clothes don't fit.

I do look and feel so much better with weight off.

I only re-started last week.

SW 13st 2
CW 13st 1
TW 10st 12

I'm so down. I feel old and fat and invisible and a bit irrelevant.

But thank you for trying. I hope tomorrow's is a better day.

Ninjachicken · 22/03/2023 21:20

Thank you @buzzofthebumblebee and @ginsparkles thats the big problem I have, I am very much all or nothing.
my book has finally arrived ! Had a bit of a look through but will read it properly tonight. I need to find a good two weeks now to start me off!!!!
good night everyone

TheRealHousewife · 22/03/2023 21:38

Hi Everyone

Ive read some lovely supportive posts that you’re writing for one another … only confirms what an awesome bunch of women you all are ❤️

OAN I know it’s off topic as I’m sharing the photos of my artefact that @greenspaces4peace wanted to see, hope none of you mind as they are a bit random. The artefact is a very strange substance as it looks like granite but is translucent when held up to the light. As far as I can tell it’s half a lid to a pot or jar. Any ideas?

@Puffalicious - I couldn't put it any better than @AutisticLegoLover - & @Lionnose ; )

Sorry you are feeling glum. Do you have a big birthday or big event coming up? Would that help spur you on? I was 13 2 in 2021 and September/Oct decided I needed to loose 2 stone in time for my 50th, end Feb 2022. I did it, and still there now. Feel great (kit kat binge aside). No kidding, it was tough, but I couldn't have done it without the OP and this wonderful thread, and without the deadline and determination. Took more will power than I have ever known.

You asked what is the point? The point is that you'll be feeling your best version. You'll need to find other favourite things, that don't involve food. You'll be investing in long term health. You'll be happy in your clothes. You'll feel like you again.

(easier to preach than practice - but delve deep, you can do it !)

ginsparkles · 22/03/2023 22:49

@Puffalicious ... I feel you! In totally the same boat. I have no wise words just solidarity. We can do this. One day at a time Flowers

greenspaces4peace · 23/03/2023 05:32

Oh @TheRealHousewife thats a very cool find. Sea Glass of some sort.
thanks for sharing the photo. No clue what it’s from at this point.

AutisticLegoLover · 23/03/2023 06:37

@TheRealHousewife my Dd collects sea glass. Seaham is reputed to be the best place to find it. Yours looks like the bottom of a bottle. Lovely piece.

57.25kg today. That's 9 stone but not quite dead on yet. Wow. Never thought I'd see these numbers. I never thought I'd see 60kg never mind in the 50s. It's thanks to you all and your encouragement .

AutisticLegoLover · 23/03/2023 07:15

@ginsparkles and @Puffalicious I hope you both have a better day I can't speak for anyone else but I certainly don't mind you having a grumble or a meltdown or whatever. This thread is definitely for the highs and lows, good and bad. I felt like I was stuck with my weight before I went on holiday and I never thought I'd reach my goal. Now the weight seems to be falling off and I don't see why as I'm doing nothing different. Bodies are weird and wonderful and weight loss is never linear as lots of people always say. Just keep plodding on and you'll get there. It's just a bumpy journey at times.

@AutisticLegoLover - you are a superb cheerleader, your words to @Puffalicious were gorgeous and I benefited from them too!

Thank you to whoever suggested sucking a mint after eating - genius.
Well I wowed yesterday despite just joining you on Tuesday - couldn't resist!

Every little helps! Sun is shining here this morning, have a great day everyone

Puffalicious · 23/03/2023 10:27

Thanks for all your kind words.
Buzz well done on your loss for your big birthday. I was happy witvh my weight for my 50th, now 18 months later I've piled on 1.5 stones from nowhere really. I don't need anything to 'spur' me on, I'm not lacking in willingness or fight, it's just really upsetting when you stick to things religiously only to gain weight. I suspect it's peri menopause pissing about with my body. Sigh.

Thanls again all for the support. The solidarity really, really helps ginsparkles ✊️

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/03/2023 14:25

Hello everyone! I managed to miss almost all of March - between a weekend away, a few celebratory events and the bathroom scales giving up the ghost, losing weight dropped down the priority list!

New scales purchased and a few pounds acquired but I am ready to start calorie counting, exercising and weighing again.

Will go and catch up on the thread!

buzzofthebumblebee · 23/03/2023 15:27

Def the peri / age thing then @Puffalicious - apols for wrong advice !! Even more frustrating for you, in which case the scales can def do a runner on you.

I thought that glass object was a weird shaped avocado @TheRealHousewife - just goes to show my mind is always focussed on food !! Good find though. Any more treasures today? Enjoy rest of your time away.

Food weird so far today, just grabbing stuff here and there, which probably means over-eating. Did help builder lifting tiles up stairs hoping for a bit more calorie burn ; )

Dinner will be steak pie & veg. Will skip potatoes, and just try and nibble on pastry and not devour it. Love pastry. It is the work of the devil though in terms of calories.

Keep going everyone else !!

Puffalicious · 23/03/2023 16:16

No Buzz I didn't mean you gave wrong advice! I'm sorry it came across snippy. That'd be perfect advice for others, I'm just frustrated I suppose.

Day off and saw my gorgeous, 3 week old nephew. A wee baba always lifts the spirits. Housework and helping at the school disco later will keep my heart-rate up!

AutisticLegoLover · 23/03/2023 18:53

We are doing a cut fire energy for an hour so I'm watching tv

AutisticLegoLover · 23/03/2023 18:53

On my phone and bouncing in candlelight 😂

AutisticLegoLover · 23/03/2023 19:46

Bloody hell. Can't type and bounce it seems. Cut your energy usage. Well the electricity although I've switched off the gas too as is warm. It's a National Grid thing and your energy supplier emails you the day or so before to invite you to cut your usage by a certain percentage. Then they take money off your bill. 4 sessions has resulted in £5 off in total so it's not much but it's better than nothing. So we sit in candlelight for an hour and chill. I finished watching an episode of Midsomer Murders and bounced and ds got tablet time much to his delight.

How is everyone's day today? For those struggling just remember that nothing lasts forever even cold March rain 😁 grumps, cravings, small packets of milk bottle sweets(!) plateaux etc. soon disappear.

Hellenabe · 23/03/2023 20:07

Hi all,

I've been sticking with the no bread thing this week....

SW 98.5
CW 96.9
GW 83

So 1.5kg in 5 days through giving up my morning rolls id say!

I'm really hoping the scales keep moving. I just have so much to lose... I have purchased one of those gigantic 2L water bottles for my desk and I think they are brilliant.

ImALittlePea · 23/03/2023 20:21

Finally catching up from yesterday and can I just shout a huge, emphatic HELL YES to everything @AutisticLegoLover said!! Sending all the love and positive vibes to @Puffalicious and @ginsparkles, and of course ALL OF YOU.

As for me... Don't feel particularly on plan this week, I've not had my regular lunch all week as I can't find the cup-a-soup that I normally have, so a bit more bread has crept in. But I'm still not snacking so even with that, my calorie count is under control. I'm hoping for a loss tomorrow off the back of being so unwell last weekend, and annoyingly I reckon I could have guaranteed a decent drop had I had a strict week, but as we all know we have to listen to what our bodies are telling us we need. So it will be what it is. Fingers crossed!

On another note though - away with DH for a night this weekend and have been trying on dresses this evening.. and pretty much all of my wardrobe is too big!! Obviously this is a PITA for the weekend, but a problem I'm THRILLED to have. Looks like I'll be having a clear out and a shopping trip is on the cards soon 😁
