Hello & Welcome

Carrying on from LOSE IT! November 2022 this is where people who wish to lose or maintain with accountability check in daily. People can access support and general advice around a healthy lifestyle (food/health/wellbeing) We generally have WOW - Weigh on Wednesday to track progress.

December is a tough month to navigate food wise especially if you’re wanting to lose. By making sensible choices without total deprivation you can hopefully mitigate any Christmas excess.

We all deserve to feel the best we can, be the best we can and strive to be as fit and healthy as possible. Not only will you look great in your finery, you’ll be strengthening your immune system and maintain a sense of well-being. In addition, if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

You just need to find what works for you! Me personally? I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

Are you in? What’s your plan? Whatever you do, Good Luck!

fallfallfall · 25/12/2022 00:37

i've been cooking up the veggies: so far
mashed carrots and turnip (not something i put together often but dh loves)
braised fennel and oh my gosh i got the caramelizing perfectly!!!
irish peas and cabbage...oil on the bottom of the pan, then bacon and the ensuing fat then after the bacon, onion and cabbage cooked BUTTER (peas at the end) but darn they mixture tastes amazing.
i'll deal with the potatoes tonight as well.

cooking for the rest of the week will be easy.
merry christmas everyone

Merry Christmas all

ImALittlePea · 25/12/2022 07:48

Sending everyone Christmas wishes today. @TheRealHousewife you are in my thoughts especially today ❤️ you are a true inspiration.

I've fallen truly into all the Christmas indulgence, so didn't weigh Friday (partly as I didn't actually realise it was Friday 😂) but hey - January will bring us all the renewed resolve we need.

I also just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone on this thread - I'm so grateful that I stumbled across it at the end of last year, as I doubt I'd have come this far and had such a positive weight loss journey without you all.

TheRealHousewife · 25/12/2022 07:49

Merry Christmas You Lovely Lot 🎄🎄🎄

Thank you everyone for your kind words. It is helpful to read and they do bring a degree of comfort ❤️

We've still set a place at the Christmas table for mum and we’ll place a candle there. We already have another place set for all of our other family who have died.

We actually went to the local pub yesterday lunch time … it was refreshing to get out of the house. I’d asked for a pot of tea. Landlord says it was against the law to serve tea on Christmas Eve. He brought me a Irish Coffee with Squirty cream and a spoon! I must say it was delicious and it certainly hit the spot. Comfort and condolences come in many forms 💔

Hug your loved ones extra tight this Christmas, they really are irreplaceable 🎄

Peace & Love ❤️

That's a beautiful tribute to your mum @TheRealHousewife

Love to all ❤️

SanFranBear · 25/12/2022 11:26

Happy Christmas all you wonderful women.. special thoughts to you and yours, RealHousewife ❤️

I'm off to get my DC from thei Dad's in a couple of hours so have been pottering around the house, trying to fill time! Pizza for Xmas Dinner as neither of mine are that fussed by a roast (although I do love them) and cake and nibbles!

My DB is coming to visit tomorrow haven't seen each other for about 18 months, so very much looking forward to that. I'll roast some chicken then for baguettes and more cake and nibbles!

Hope Santa brought you all you wanted - I got a wonderful book from a friend with 60 walks around the UK so will try and crack on with those in the New Year. I have really got out of the walking thing - and I miss it dreadfully! I walked to town from our new place yesterday for the last of my shopping and I found it a real struggle even though its not very far! Ah well, that's a worry for another day!

Thank you one and all for the super support and here's to resuming the 'journey' after the festivities!

ImALittlePea · 25/12/2022 12:13

That sounds like a lovely chilled day @SanFranBear - hopefully a day full of happy memories in your new home.

DH and I haven't done gifts this year, although I did get a lovely new mug from the DC (I love a photo mug 😂); we were worried it would feel weird to not give to each other but it actually hasn't. We're going to have a night away next year instead - will be targeting losing my inevitable Xmas gain and hopefully a little more in time for that 😂

Had a far-too-big cooked breakfast this morning, and we've got an even bigger Christmas roast coming mid afternoon. I'll be bursting at the seams by evening!

Jenasaurus · 25/12/2022 13:57

hope everyone has a good christmas, my daughter bought me this lovely dress, which has an actual waist, this time last year I was a size 24, however eaten loads today so hope I can still fit this afterwards!

Smugsmaug · 25/12/2022 18:04

You look lovely @Jenasaurus ! That colour really suits you! And very impressive weight loss!

What lovely messages to read through the day! They’ve been a nice respite through the typical family politics! I’ve not bothered paying attention to food intake since the 22nd, feeling very very over stuffed (like a sausage bursting out of its skin) and almost looking forward to getting back on track in the coming days.

Hope everyone is having a nice time x

and thinking of you especially @TheRealHousewife, have been sending kind thoughts and wishes throughout the day. And to all our loved ones who aren’t with us today, but are very much missed x

fallfallfall · 26/12/2022 04:55

@Jenasaurus beautiful!

TheRealHousewife · 26/12/2022 20:02

I’ve created our New Thread ⭐️LOSE IT! January 2012 Reset Edition⭐️ as I’ve a bit on this coming week sorting mums funeral 💔

Peace & Love 💕

ImALittlePea · 27/12/2022 08:36

Gorgeous @Jenasaurus and well done on an incredible loss so far!

We've had a really lovely few days, the kids have brought so much magic and it's been a slower pace than usual, which is much needed. Of course, too indulgent, and absolutely dreading weighing in on Friday but will take it for what it is. No regrets!

Have kept you in my thoughts @TheRealHousewife

TheRealHousewife · 27/12/2022 09:10

Good Morning Everyone

Trigger warning. Not trying to elicit sympathy or anything, just explaining. Im spending a day alone today as OH has gone out. It will be quite nice to have some quiet time to reflect about dm and try to come up with a sympathetic Eulogy. For those who’ve known me the longest on these threads it wasn’t a secret my relationship with dm was difficult to navigate. I had a childhood filled with trauma and abuse which has led to complex pdsd (which I’d forgiven her for, more difficult to forget) and I was advised by mh counsellors to go no contact. Ultimately she had absolutely no one in her later years and I couldn’t not support her. I continued to show her love, respect and gratitude without expecting absolutely nothing in return right until the very end. As I see it, she must have had her own demons and past traumas that she wasn’t able to share or articulate hence she projected onto me. I feel sorrow that whilst she was alive she had a lack of ability to truly enjoy herself and had a reluctance to partake in life and all it can offer. She was bound by a past eras oppression and just couldn’t break free. My joyfulness and enthusiasm for life, rather than fill her with love or affection, would be cause her further resentment. I will just give one example. When I put myself through uni as an adult she refused to come to my graduation or speak to me for months after. Our ‘sort’ didn’t go to uni. ‘Sort’ being lower working class. I’m really not exaggerating when I say I can’t think of any happy events. None. Nonetheless I wouldn’t be who I am without having had mum. R.I.P 💔

No words of wisdom TheRealHousewife, just hugs and sympathy. I hope you find some catharsis in your day of reflection 💐

Oh @TheRealHousewife what an exceptionally nice person you are. I'm sorry that you had such a difficult relationship with your mother and am amazed at your ability to analyse it and to be so understanding towards her. I wish I had half of your empathy and wisdom. 🫂

TheRealHousewife · 27/12/2022 16:36

Hi @Lizsmum Thank you, that’s kind of you to say. TBH my upbringing was what motivated me into going to uni and studying psychology, sociology and Social Work. I needed to understand and make sense of my experiences; it did help in separating mum as a person from her harmful behaviour.

Final WOW of 2022.

It was this time last year I started reading these threads. I've achieved a lot this year and the support and advice here has been invaluable.

I always do myself a year round up on old years night but thought I'd start early this year and share (if you'll indulge me- for the first time in a long time it sounds braggy!)

Weight
SW 14st 4.5lb. CW 10st 10lb

Exercise
Went from getting the lift 3 floors from entrance to office to being able to run. Longest 11 miles. Minute miles 11 comfortably
Learned to paddle board
Learned to climb (fear of heights!)
Took up weightlifting. PB for deadlift 87kg

Food
Stopped taking sugar in my coffee
Meal planned for most weeks
Sweets have become occasional (ignore Xmas)
Still teetotal

Goals for 2023
Half marathon may
Marathon October
Reach goal weight (10st) by June and maintain
End 2023 at goal weight

There have been massive accomplishments on this thread, you should all be very proud. And even prouder that you're all genuinely nice people

Special thanks to @TheRealHousewife for the threads- you've helped me make my year!

Onwards and inwards into 2023 💥 🎉
