Hello & Welcome

Carrying on from LOSE IT! November 2022 this is where people who wish to lose or maintain with accountability check in daily. People can access support and general advice around a healthy lifestyle (food/health/wellbeing) We generally have WOW - Weigh on Wednesday to track progress.

December is a tough month to navigate food wise especially if you’re wanting to lose. By making sensible choices without total deprivation you can hopefully mitigate any Christmas excess.

We all deserve to feel the best we can, be the best we can and strive to be as fit and healthy as possible. Not only will you look great in your finery, you’ll be strengthening your immune system and maintain a sense of well-being. In addition, if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

You just need to find what works for you! Me personally? I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

Are you in? What’s your plan? Whatever you do, Good Luck!

@fallfallfall whereabouts in the world do you live? It's 5 degrees here and has apparently been 10 today and I've turned off the heating for tomorrow. After the cold of last week I need to balance out the gas usage as best I can.

Today has consisted of:

2 cups of tea
Half a glass of orange juice
3 shortbread fingers
Toast with butter 1.5 slices as ds stole a triangle
Tomato and mozzarella pasta with homemade pasta sauce
Water, lots of water
The odd sweets out from the bags I've made up for the dc-6 small sweets.

Ive spent hours wrapping presents this evening despite thinking I'd done most of it. They have got far too many presents and I said I was cutting down this year 😩 Christmas is like dieting for me: I say I'll spend less then spend more just like I plan to eat less but eat more although only usually the first or second day. I'm a lost cause. This year though there are no presents that are just because I liked them except for the edible coal from Fortnum and Mason. I've split that into 2 food gift bags and tied with a ribbon to give on Christmas Eve to encourage them to go to bed and go to sleep 😁 Dd will be fine but ds was a pain last year and woke up at a very bad time but luckily I caught him and steered him back to bed without incident.

WOW. 2lbs down. No idea how, I've definitely not been depriving myself of Xmas food! Did a really good run yesterday at faster than my normal pace as well so I'm proper chuffed all round

Plan for the next week is to be sensible and only eat the food on offer that I want. I'm catering Xmas Eve pre panto so that should be easy, then for the days I'm at the ILs where they cook as though an army is coming!

Hope everyone who's under the weather perks up soon.
@fallfallfall you must have been chuckling at us complaining about the ice here the other week. Aside from the temp it must be beautiful where you are. Your bees must be very hardy!

AutisticLegoLover · 21/12/2022 08:56

Morning all. Well done @milkfromthesleepycow!

My WoW is still 9st 9lb the same as yesterday. I've done no exercise since last Thursday but will get a little today taking dc to the drs and going to the dentist. Not much walking there about 1.5 miles or so but enough to get myself on the move again. Ds will hopefully be back at school tomorrow and I'll get my usual 5 miles a day in. Christmas suddenly seems very close and I have lots of tidying to do.

fallfallfall · 21/12/2022 09:07

Dh checked half his hives last week before the cold snap. They had plenty of food and were doing well. He’s got some fun toys, like an infrared camera that sees the bees (they cluster together in the middle of the hive). He also uses polyurethane hives which have better insulation and straps that keep the sections tightly in place. So far so good, only 25 jars left to sell from last years harvest!

Well hello you wonderful bunch! I am so sorry to have been awol for most of the month but my move didn't go that smoothly, unfortunately, so have been firefighting in one form or another ever since.

I have read through the thread and just wanted to say 'Get Well Soon' to almost all of you - sounds like it's been a really tricky month health wise for so many of you so hopefully everyone turns a corner to be able to enjoy the Christmas break fully!

Given the housing nightmares, I've been very slack with my food but the stress, the sheer physical effort and missing of meals has meant I'm the lowest I've been all year!!!

SW: 104.7kg
CW: 67.1kg

I'm thinking a lot is tied up in dehydration as lots of salty snacks and takeaways but at the same time - whoop!

In other good news, I seem to have found myself a Friend with Benefits which, after 10 years of celibacy, is also helping to keep the weight off! Someone I've known for years but never really thought of that way but am really enjoying it for what it is for now... and given I've not able to get any hiking or regular exercise in for weeks, good to stay flexible 😉

Lovely to see a fellow walker on the thread, AutisticLegoLover (also love me some Lego so am intrigued by your Christmas project!)

And a heartfelt thank you to RealHousewife for everything you've done to help support me this year.. this thread has played a massive part in keeping me on track and feeling like it's all worth it! I shall definitely endeavour to contribute more now that things have settled down a bit on the home front!

Now - need to get our tree and decs up - normally one of the first to do so but just had no luck whatsoever in finding time this year

Fairly new to the thread and so did a double take at your weight loss! Amazing! How did you do it??

No WoW for me. Managed to break my toe so that’s ended most of my go to exercise! But still calorie counting! I’m not going mad eating over Christmas but a broken toe is a right bummer.

Does anyone have tips on not eating in front of TV at night?

Cloudberries123 · 21/12/2022 12:48

TofuonToast I'm not really one to talk but RealHousewife has a clever thing of cleaning and 'closing' the kitchen in the evening which does help with not going back in for a rummage once the TV munchies hit. When I do it, it works. Other than that - occupy your mouth/hands with something else. Chew gum, fold laundry... Boring I know, but doesn't have to be forever, only till the habit/association of TV + snacking is broken. Despite my very slow losses, this is one of the things I'm actually getting better at.

Will post my weigh-in later, it's been an emotionally draining morning. Too little food and water as well, contributing to feeling a bit spacey.

Breakfast - vegetarian ham and cheese sandwich, coffee

Lunch - 1 slice toast, 1 boiled egg, mocha

Well done all WoWers!

SanFranBear · 21/12/2022 13:11

So sorry to hear about your toe, TofuonToast - sounds painful! Hope it doesn't hamper your festivities too much.

And my 'secret' is really rather dull but it does work.. I log absolutely everything on MyFitnessPal and then twice a week, I have an under 1,000 calorie day - so similar to 5:2 except there is no way I can survive on 500 calories so normally aim for about 800.

I also developed a passion for hiking and walking everywhere - I'm lucky I live down on the South Coast which is full of beautiful scenery and walks and treks but I found ensuring I got out at least once a week (my little WoW - Walk on Wednesday!), put me in a really positive frame of mind. I've fallen in love with my local area and cannot wait for the longer days and sunny skies so I can get back out there for some meaningful miles.

So, sad as it is - eating less and moving more! Simple but definitely true in my case... it has been a year now though and the last few kilos are taking a loooong time to shift but but, as RealHousewife is always saying, this is a lifestyle change, not just a diet!

I will also say - this thread! It really is a game changer so do stick around! If nothing else, you can post lots in the evening to stop the snacking (I do echo Cloudberries - keep your hands occupied! I like a nice cross-stitch!!)

TheRealHousewife · 21/12/2022 17:58

Evening All

Apologies in advance. I’m not meaning to drag the thread down but Ive had a massive shock as mum died in hospital today after having a fall at home yesterday. We’d been unable to contact her so drove over to find mum unresponsive on the floor. It’s been a blur and I’m on high alert with the shock and suddenness of her passing. Ill not be posting as I’m taking a couple of days to sort things and collect myself. Peace & love 💔

Good Morning All

Thank you for your kind words ❤️ I’m still in shock. I’d been readying the guest bedroom for mums arrival for her Christmas stay, presents wrapped under tree, Christmas food shop in the fridge etc. I’m not sleeping very well so taking zzzzz when I can.

Thank you again; you are a lovely bunch of ladies 🙏💔

No matter what happens, the world keeps turning, the sun keeps rising and currently the days are getting longer in readiness for Spring. When life is tough and you’re going through s*, you just have to keep going … and gratitude does help in getting us through.
