Saxenda advice

Billythebear · 05/11/2022 13:26

Hi All,
I’m going to be starting Saxenda today, hoping this will help me to overcome my awful eating habits at the moment, which has made be gain 2 stone in a year.
Any advice would be great!

No advice, but I have also just started (am on day 7). How is it going?

BayandBlonde · 05/11/2022 16:25

It made me even hungrier than usual, not very helpful. Make sure you take the correct 'clicks', don't think taking more makes it work quicker. It doesn't, instead it will just you feel sick.

Didn't work for me.

Billythebear · 05/11/2022 18:30

Thanks both.
@Jerseygirl80 how are you finding it so far?
have you had any side effects?

I had two stone to lose this year. I successfully introduced the 16:8 and absolutely love that. I also introduced loads of exercise and dieting and lost not a damn thing. That was incredibly disappointing. I finally bought two saxenda pens and lost a stone in about a pen and a half. The whole time i stayed on the starter dose and I took days off each week to try to keep my body from habituating and being the higher doses. I have no medical Knowledge or scientific basis for that decision!

I was hoping to continue losing the 2nd stone gradually naturally through diet but I'm the wrong side of 50 and it just wasn't happening. About 10 days ago I bought two more pens. It really helps me stick two two small balls a day and no snacking so i imagine, once i lose this stone, i will buy a pen from time to time to help me keep on track.

The only side effects I've experienced is the nausea, which was a little worse this time as i thought I'd try increasing the dose as suggested, but i think I'll stick to keeping it steady and taking days off as that worked for me.

dudsville · 05/11/2022 18:41

Forgot to say, the 16:8 really is the thing that helped me curb hunger. Saxenda just helps me do 2 meals a day for a time.

Jerseygirl80 · 05/11/2022 22:25

@Billythebear I'm doing OK with it thanks. It took two days for me to feel the effects and I've easily dropped down to 2 meals a day, between 1000-1500 per day. I havent felt any desire to snack but that was never my issue. I usally eat nothing all day and then blow out at dinner but have found myself having a piece of toast for breakfast, coffee and moderate dinner.

I've only lost 1kg in a week, which is odd given the lower calorie intake but I suppose metabolism is complicated.

I dont have any side effects of note other than being tired, presumably down to lower calories intake.

How are you feeling?

ThatGirlInACountrySong · 05/11/2022 22:35

I'm on stone number 4!

Going well for me

JoelDommettsTux · 06/11/2022 08:36

Can I ask roughly what your BMI is for those taking it and where you get it from please? Do you have to go through GP? Thanks

Billythebear · 06/11/2022 12:32

Hi @JoelDommettsTux my BMI is 29, and I went through Boots online Doctor to get prescription.

@Jerseygirl80 that’s a brilliant start!
I only took first dose last night so no side effects just yet, but I’m even finding the fact I've spent money on it, is keeping me motivated at the moment.

Hi joining in if that's okay? I've just ordered 3 pens from Asda, they'll be ready to collect tomorrow afternoon but I'm working through until the next day so will start on Thursday. Hoping to lose around 25 pounds, I've tried counting calories, SW etc but can't seem to shift it! Hoping for good results

Lyricallie · 08/11/2022 19:45

I started really well with it, lost decent amount of weight. Got covid and then the side effects ended up awful from saxenda (not sure if related) but I was throwing up almost daily, my stomach coming out my butt and yes I lost a lot of weight but that was because I couldn't keep anything down. I tried stopping and restarting after my symptoms stopped right back at the start and pretty much started throwing up again instantly. I am really tempted to try again as I have one pen left but the fear is high.

alloutofcareunits · 08/11/2022 19:53

@Lyricallie that sounds awful, hopefully I won't have those side effects! Hope you're feeling okay now

Billythebear · 09/11/2022 08:46

Hi everyone,
I am on day 5, and so far so good.
The only side effect I have had so far is nausea in the morning, nothing too bad, just slightly annoying.
Keeping my fingers crossed for weight loss on weigh in on Saturday.

TheWatcherok · 09/11/2022 11:38

I'm week 4 and 17lbs down. Best thing I've ever done. I'm staying on 0.6 plus 3 clicks so far and it's working well.

Sarahemmabrown · 09/11/2022 11:42

Can you take it if you have hrt patches? I’m just about to start on those but would delay if I could take Saxenda and lose some weight first, or ideally have both at the same time.

alloutofcareunits · 09/11/2022 12:00

@TheWatcherok that's amazing! Well done, you must feel great 😊

alloutofcareunits · 09/11/2022 12:02

I rang the pharmacy and my script was already there, I've just collected it. I start work at 2 and I'm there until 3 tomorrow but don't want to take it with me so I'm planning to do first injection at 1.30 before I leave then my second at 4 tomorrow when I get home

alloutofcareunits · 09/11/2022 12:03

@Sarahemmabrown I don't know about patches but I'm on tablet HRT and wasn't an issue getting it, I used Asda online service

alloutofcareunits · 09/11/2022 12:04

@Billythebear that's good to hear, update on Saturday with your weight please! Hope it works for you

Londonnight · 09/11/2022 12:06

Is there a chance that a GP would prescribe this? I really need to lose weight and no other diet has helped. I have read up on Saxenda and it looks impressive.
I have looked at the cost of getting Saxenda privately and it is too expensive for me, which is why if possible I would like to get it through my GP.

liverpoolgal82 · 09/11/2022 12:16

Hi, I’m taking levothroxine for under active thyroid. Is this a contraindication does anyone know? Online it says Saxender can cause thyroid cancer so wondering if this puts me at a higher risk? Is that risk just for thyroid issues? I would love to try this as my stomach has gained almost two stone because of endo treatment (was put into the menopause with monthly injection which came to an end two months ago) and since being on levothyroxine also as I’m always starving and slower metabolism I guess.

alloutofcareunits · 09/11/2022 12:25

@liverpoolgal82 you have to answer health questions when you apply for the prescription so they'd probably cover it in there? On the Asda one a doctor looks over the application before agreeing the prescription (at least that's what it says they're doing...)

alloutofcareunits · 09/11/2022 12:27

@Londonnight I'm not sure you'd probably need to approach your GP, I'd imagine it's not available as all the threads/Facebook groups I've looked at seem to be people paying for it. This does seem ridiculous considering how much obesity is costing the NHS
