Diet for Christmas challenge

OhFatty · 24/07/2022 15:30

I know it’s boiling hot and far too early but does anyone want to start a Christmas diet?

I’ve got a LOT to lose and in June I set myself a target of 4 stone by Christmas. So far I’ve lost 1 stone 3, so starting today my new target is going to be 40lbs by Christmas (although more would be very welcome 😀) My weigh day is Monday. I’ll update here every week, and hopefully some others will join me?

@hedgehog91 Ive had a terrible couple of days as well but your commitment to keep going has inspired me, even if I maintain this week. Even now feeling bloated by chocolate I’m planning to go the gym tomorrow and logging 3 meals on MyFitnessPal to try and stop me going off track.

Love the idea of treating yourself after each half stone too. I normally treat myself with food so I need to plan do other treats.

@LaTangerina

You sounds like you have a really good plan in place and some decent willpower there.

How long have you been going and how much have you lost?

I like the options hot choc idea that's a good one in place of a pudding for 40 cals.

christmas2022 · 20/08/2022 07:33

@LaTangerina

Sorry I didn't go far enough back on the posts. This thread can move quickly if you don't keep up! Just saw your earlier update.

Congratulations on your progress.

hedgehog91 · 20/08/2022 07:59

@Tayegete you can do it! I’ve had 5 days of awful eating in a row. Am really struggling to get back on track, but I am making today the day! My weigh in is Monday so if I could maintain I will be ecstatic. And then really go for it next week. In the past I would have given up this week and thrown it all out of the window but I’ve now realised that that is self destruction.

Well done for planning to log meals 💪🏼 and working through the over eating bloat! Good luck!

MuddyBoo · 20/08/2022 08:17

That's so encouraging to read @LaTangerina !

I share your self destruct tenancy @hedgehog91. I know I have to keep telling myself that a blip doesn't have to be game over.

Bit of a middling day for me yesterday. Baking millionaire shortbread and a generous fry up meant I was up on calories. But I did still get my twenty minutes of exercise and my Friday night drink was just 1 whisky instead of half a bottle of wine.

Meeting a friend at some gardens today so will be doing lots of walking and exploring, which I know will do me good.

I started at the beginning of March this year & I've lost just 3 pounds short of 4 stone! I've got 10 pounds to lose still until I'm at my ideal weight.
I never thought I could get this far as I've had this weight on me the last 10 years since my last baby.
I also has set my goals as smaller (less weight to lose) but have passed them twice.
This last 10 pounds feels like its coming off slowly though but I've read thats pretty common!
I'd highly recommend counting calories on MyFitnessPal & I've been walking too.

That's brilliant 2lbs is great!
I found for me I don't weigh myself until around every 2 weeks I just get put off if the scales haven't gone down by much.

Any advice please ladies: I was meant to do a 5K race tomorrow morning but I recently had pneumonia, so it kind of ruined my training. I’m a little apprehensive, but I don’t really want to miss it and I’m thinking of going ahead and doing it anyway but as a training run for future runs, so no real pressure or expectations. Think it could be motivational to be back in that environment again (hopefully). What do you reckon?

For context, not new to running and was a regular runner before (reasonably competitive in past even). I’d started running pretty regularly again before I got ill, so I risk with this distance. Only risk would be to my ego when I don’t do as well as I would have liked before I guess! Go for it, or don’t go for it?

TheBatwoman · 20/08/2022 20:31

Well done @tortoishellclub! That’s great

Morning all. Another VERY stressful work week and another crappy food week. I've realised that the two go hand in hand with me.
This week I'm going to restrict myself to two snacks a day and see if I can get the snacking at my desk thing under control. [ I'm a terrible snacker so need to address this.]
Anyway it's half a pound off for me. Rubbish, but at least in the right direction and I've made a start even if only in a tiny way. 14st 9.5lbs this morning.
I'm so impressed with everyone's progress and I am going to reread your inspirational posts and hope some determination rubs off on me.

tortoishellclub · 21/08/2022 08:19

@recklessgran well done on your loss!!!! As you say it's all in the right direction, no matter how small. I'm doing intermittent fasting which is really helping with my snacking, it's definitely worth trying ☺️

christmas2022 · 21/08/2022 08:29

@recklessgran

You've still managed to get a loss despite you're stressful week so that's really good!

Sounds like you have a plan to manage the next week too so good luck with it 👍

christmas2022 · 21/08/2022 08:31

@tortoishellclub Fab weight loss well done!

2lb is amazing 🤩

Are you counting calories? Any tips on how you've had such a successful week?

christmas2022 · 21/08/2022 08:33

@hedgehog91

Good luck for your weigh in.

I can relate to what you say about the self destruction and giving up at the first sign of failure. I've been there many times and knowing what I am like in that sense has stopped me from even starting for so long.

I'm sure there is some interesting psychology behind it but I don't know what it is!

recklessgran · 21/08/2022 08:41

Thanks@tortoiseshellsub for the encouragement. I already do 16:8 so my eating window is midday to 8.00pm. I usually have a high protein lunch such as eggs or tuna salad because I know the protein should stop me from feeling hungry but I then seem to snack periodically all afternoon at my desk. It's almost as if once I start eating I just carry on. I do try to choose healthy things - I have popcorn and crudites prepped but then I might have a chunk of cheese which of course I know isn't good calorie wise!! The thing is, I know I'm not hungry - it's just a bad habit that I need to address now. I've decided that I'm going to try running up and down the stairs once every time I'm tempted to head for the kitchen - that will help with my exercise too as I'm also very lazy. I'm going to log how many times I run the stairs each day so I can judge just how much mindless snacking I get up to - will keep you all posted!!

recklessgran · 21/08/2022 08:56

@christmas2022 thank you. I actually think my half a pound is pathetic but then I imagine it as a block of butter and it feels quite good to know I won't be carrying that around with me all week. I have a dieting incentive too.
We have a holiday booked in the Canaries on 27th November for some winter sun and I need to lose 2 stone by then if there's any chance of me getting back into my holiday wardrobe. I'm going to try to focus my thoughts on that for now. We were at a BBQ yesterday and I struggled to find a nice dress to wear that looked O.K.so that was a big reality check!

tortoishellclub · 21/08/2022 09:24

@christmas2022 hi sweetie. I'm doing intermittent fasting aiming for an eating window of 5 hr a day (sometimes 6, but I try for longer) I am also counting calories- I've learned that I can't cut out treats altogether as it makes me crave more then I fall off the wagon. I need to loose about 3stone so it feels like it will take forever lol xx

tortoishellclub · 21/08/2022 09:25

@recklessgran that's a great idea regarding the stairs!!!! Minding eating is hard to rein in, im the same- I just always reach for food. Sending you luck for today xxx

SnowyMouse · 21/08/2022 10:49

Today I weighed in at 11 stone 12, which is 1.25 lb lost this week (21 August), 4.75 lbs overall.

WutheringShites86 · 21/08/2022 10:57

I weighed early this week on Wednesday and was 4lbs down, weighed again this morning just in case but nothing else to report so I'm still 15st 3lbs. It has been my DD's birthday though and there has been buffet food and cake so I think that is more than fine for me.

Stepcount · 21/08/2022 11:10

Doing my Sunday weigh in- 2lbs loss this week. 4.2 lbs in just under 2 weeks so happy with that.
Christmas Day is 18 weeks today ( I think) so I am aiming to lose next stone by 23rd October (9wks) and 9 more weeks then for the second stone. That will take me back to where I was weight-wise at Christmas’19. I will still be overweight but hopefully lots of my clothes will fit me again 🙏🏻
Well done everyone on persevering- hoping we all have a good week.
