Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right into July! Reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself! It’s going to be a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable). It’s a journey, not a destination.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? You can do it, if you really want too!

Woohoo, CrimsonAlligator - that's amazing and a PB is always something worth celebrating. Still tempted by the 10k?

Sorry to hear you're feeling lonely, Buzz.. feel free to PM me if you just want a vent or a chat (although no idea what's going on with the PM thing now - I appear to have things from when I first joined MN, which is a scarily long time ago!)

Hope your back feels better in the morning, RealHousewife.. I really need to go and get mine checked as its still playing up and I'm worrying myself.

I meant to have an early night like you both, but here I am at 11pm 😄

CrimsonAlligator · 09/07/2022 00:50

Thanks for the medal @buzzofthebumblebee. I will treasure it!
Sorry to hear you are feeling so lonely buzz. I know it’s not much, but here’s a big virtual hug from me 🤗

I am still tempted by the 10k @SanFranBear , but I finished my 2k in just over 9 minutes, so now I’m really curious to see if I can break through that 9 minute limit. Choices, choices...😁

Great news on that dress @fallfallfall and even better that you have to size down. I bet you look fab in it.

I hope your back feels better soon @TheRealHousewife . We seem to have escaped the worst of the heat so far, but it sounds unpleasant further south. Keep drinking that water!

HouseofHolbein · 09/07/2022 07:58

Morning everyone! My local parkrun isn't on this morning so I'd arranged to go to another with a friend. She's cried off so I'm still in bed 🤣🤣 got work at 12:30 then my 10k tomorrow.

It's very hot I'm drinking loads of water. I could just go for a run this morning but I think I'll save myself for tomorrow.

Need to do the shopping but feeling very uninspired. Really need to get meal planning at some point!

Hope everyone has a good weekend 👍

Benjispruce4 · 09/07/2022 08:23

Morning all. @HouseofHolbein awful shocks for your friends and undoubtedly for you too. Life is so precious.
@ImALittlePea your son is so lucky to have you.
I had an omelette last night and the rest of the wine. Awful headache this morning. I don’t I can drink much these days. Probably because I’m not eating as much to soak it up! No bad thing eh.
Porridge for breakfast.

TheRealHousewife · 09/07/2022 09:05

Good Morning Everyone 😀

Strangely, even though I’m pleased to see the sun is out this morning there is an unseasonal chill in the air 🤷‍♀️

@Benjispruce4 I can’t metabolise alcohol any more. In my 20s I could drink with impunity and didn’t suffer from any hangover/headaches. I think hormones and gut biome affect how we react to alcohol.

@HouseofHolbein I think it’s smart of you to prep your body and get fully hydrated in readiness for tomorrow’s 10k, which I’m sure you’ll smash. 🏃‍♀️ 🏅👏 📣

@CrimsonAlligator Thank you. It feels easier today 👍

Enjoy your weekend!

Hope everyone is getting on ok! Anyone have any experience with exercising and blood vessels bursting in the eyes? Been at the optician this morning with a rather nasty haemorrhage in one of my eyes (only the white bits but I have a rather lovely bright red eyeball!)and he’s asked if the had been an injury or pressure on the eye. They are not too concerned and said it could also be allergies but I’m not one to suffer with that. Only thing different I’ve been doing that I could think was the extra exercising (running) that I’m doing and getting hot, puffed out and sweaty.

Anyone had similar?

Benjispruce4 · 09/07/2022 14:58

@BlueSilver23 they can just occur for no reason. I’ve known two colleagues get them and they weren’t big in exercise. They went away pretty quickly.

fallfallfall · 09/07/2022 14:58

@BlueSilver23 , yes many years ago. No clue as to why. After red it fades to yellow…thankfully painless. No treatment.

BlueSilver23 · 09/07/2022 15:02

@Benjispruce4 @fallfallfall Thanks guys, yeah just not sure where it came from, I’ve held off from exercising today just so I’m not creating pressure on the eye to give it a bit of time to recover. Think it may have been the heat here perhaps, got very overheated earlier.

Benjispruce4 · 09/07/2022 15:04

Must’ve been a shock though eh?

BlueSilver23 · 09/07/2022 15:05

Trying resist the ice cream in the weather today! Filled up on iced Diet Coke instead. I always end up fancying takeaway when it’s warm so trying to avoid being tempted

BlueSilver23 · 09/07/2022 15:06

@Benjispruce4 i only looked because it was hurting, and it’s still a bit sore but hopefully no worse. Been in sunglasses all day so not to scare people!

fallfallfall · 09/07/2022 15:09

@BlueSilver23, how about a cool shower, use the coke as drain cleaner. Step away from the artificial stuff ;).

BlueSilver23 · 09/07/2022 15:13

@fallfallfall Its my one vice right now! But I have just ordered some flavoured sparkling water to substitute instead

fallfallfall · 09/07/2022 15:19

👍@BlueSilver23

bambi1132 · 09/07/2022 18:13

Hello!
Is it ok to join? I have around 6 stone to lose. We go away in December so I would like to lose a bit before then too as I'll be wearing a swimming costume. I lost 5 stone after I had my DS and then got pregnant with my DD. I lost a little since having her but she's 4 now and I'm back to my 1 day post pregnancy weight.
This weather is making me really fed up, I struggle a lot because I'm not confident in dresses and just struggle generally because of my size. I don't want to spend another summer like this.
I'm 5'2
CW: 14st13lbs
GW: 9st

Benjispruce4 · 09/07/2022 19:06

Welcome @bambi1132 you’ve picked a good thread for support and advice. December is a decent, achievable goal to lose a significant amount. Picture yourself how you want to be in that costume . Good luck to you!🙂

bambi1132 · 09/07/2022 19:27

Thank you @Benjispruce4 😊 you're right, if I keep it up I should be able to lose a bit by then!

TheRealHousewife · 09/07/2022 20:10

A warm welcome @bambi1132 , lovely to have you join us. The ladies on these threads are really supportive and they will hand hold if needed. That being said any progress you do make is absolutely down to your own hard work, the changes you choose to make and self monitoring. Its great you have a goal in mind and have a Holiday booked. This could serve as motivation :) You can make significant change in 6 months prior without having to do anything to drastic. For example if you were to lose, on average 2lbs a week that would = around 50lbs give or take. (4.5stone) In real terms your losses will be more to start with then will reduce when you have less to lose if that makes sense. Do you know where to start? Do you have an eating plan (plan rather than a diet as diets par se just don't work). Share you thoughts :)

@BlueSilver23 what a shocker, here's hoping it clears up quickly!

I didn't manage to swerve the home-made coffee ice cream (made for the oh as per his lordships request ). Only had 2 tablespoons and it was blummin lush I tell ya.

@HouseofHolbein Good luck for tomorrows 10K! Will be thinking about you.

fallfallfall · 09/07/2022 22:07

positive thoughts the wind is at your back @HouseofHolbein :)
@TheRealHousewife , not sure if you looked any further into the galveston diet. i paid for the tutorial and it's well written and presented, the odd macro's are only till you achieve your personal goal weight after that it reverts to a much more balanced set of numbers. the info is mainly about eating fresh and staying away from processed but the whole view is to help women during peri and menopause lots of discussion on the various hormones at play and visceral fat.
i have time and i generally dislike reading, but enjoy online stuff so it's enjoyable.
welcome @bambi1132 do you have a plan of attack? what worked for you last time?

bambi1132 · 10/07/2022 07:05

I'll just be counting calories and trying to up my exercise a bit. CC worked for me last time, the only reason I stopped was because I got pregnant with DD. I have PCOS now though so that may make it a bit more difficult than last time.

HouseofHolbein · 10/07/2022 08:03

I'm so hungover 😭😭 I'm actually going to die today out there 😭😭

Went to silent disco which was brilliant but drank far too much 🤣🤣

Benjispruce4 · 10/07/2022 08:39

Oh dear @HouseofHolbein pints of water for you today! Good luck.

Benjispruce4 · 10/07/2022 09:35

NSV- just managed to put on my contortionist worthy sports bra by myself! It’s always been on the small side with various fasteners and I always have to get one of my daughters to help but I’ve obviously shrunk enough. Benefits come in strange, unexpected ways sometimes. Off for a cooler morning dog walk at the reservoir. The bluest sky today. Enjoy if it’s with you too.

TheRealHousewife · 10/07/2022 09:57

Good Morning All 😊

Hi @fallfallfall I did look the Galveston way of eating up. Actually, not bragging or nothing honest but the way I eat is on similar lines. Fats not as high and perhaps I eat too much diary (have cut down recently, especially butter) and if I do drink alcohol it’s generally a red wine. This was of eating for me has evolved over the past few years in order for me to address inflammatory diseases and weight gain. I lost 3 stones relatively quickly and now more or less at maintenance but would appreciate my 1/2 stone of belly to reduce. I have the luxury of having the time to be able to cook from scratch (OH helps with all the chopping) and I have very little if any processed foods.

@HouseofHolbein oh no! Drink plenty and get glucose and salts in. Good luck 🤞

@Benjispruce4 I think sports bras are a devices of torture! T to get on and then the hard work really starts 😬. Well done on your NSV 👍
