WOW 😯 Where did February go … A Warm Welcome to New and existing Members alike! Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

@SunshineCake1 so sorry about your dd. But celebrating your amazing treadmill work.

No exercise for me, not even yoga. But had a couple of good days food wise. Trying to get past a plateau so those articles are welcome thank you!

HouseofHolbein · 08/03/2022 08:11

Ok I know this is a weight loss thread but I also know that people are having a rough time. So I present my cats in hats to hopefully raise a smile.

I do get asked for these pictures regularly on a post in the litter tray as a little pick me up.

Love to everyone who is struggling 💕 on international womens day remember we are all wonder women 💕

Just what I needed @HouseofHolbein. Thank you. 🐱 🐈‍⬛ 🐈. Just realised those three actually represent my three cats!

Stuck on the phone. Surgery didn't do my prescription. Something went wrong their end. Was told be done yesterday afternoon. Dh just been to get it and it isn't there and they won't talk to him. Now on the phone on hold trying to speak to someone. Apparently they did tell dh they would ring me later and see what they can do. I have no meds left. I did everything they asked. I have emailed in and it has taken 13 minutes to move up two places.

youdoyoutoday · 08/03/2022 08:46

Good morning fellow wonders of our worlds!!
Happy international women's day to you all ❤

Nice cats @HouseofHolbein though they don't look very happy with those hats on but certainly made me laugh! 🤣

Happy to report another slight loss this morning, only half a pound, I don't usually register the decimal points but I'm taking anything at the moment that's a positive! 🤣

Swam this morning, the pool was warm which was a relief as the temperature here was 0 degrees!

Feeling really tired now though as I had another dodgy night's sleep, more of a doze than a proper sleep.

Happy Tuesday xx

HouseofHolbein · 08/03/2022 08:48

@youdoyoutoday I’ve slept with one eye open since I took these pictures but it was worth it 🤣🤣🤣

youdoyoutoday · 08/03/2022 08:55

🤣🤣🤣

CumbrianExile · 08/03/2022 09:17

Thanks for the cats @houseofholbein just what I needed after a tough morning with the kids!

Lzzyisgod · 08/03/2022 09:34

Loving the cats!! And unmnetty hugs to those having a tricky time xx

Gonnagetgoing · 08/03/2022 09:36

@SunshineCake1

No shame here *@Gonnagetgoing*. We all support each other.

@fallfallfall. You are winning as you haven't gained. Keep going. You are doing great.

@SunshineCake1 - thank you!

It wasn't so bad last night actually - had Rana aubergine pasta knocchi (80g), spinach and mushrooms (the recommended serving size of both) with butter and parmesan. I have to have a meal like that every so often but the recommended half portion size is too much for me!

Breakfast this morning is Oats so simple (plain) with skimmed milk, blueberries and tiny bit of honey, plus tea with skimmed milk.

Planning on having 2 falafels (bought some in a pack mix which you fry etc) plus my salad from yesterday, some raspberries and some crispbreads for lunch.

I did find that if I ate e.g. 1 or 2 cream crackers - they were enough of a carb hit to have as a snack e.g. with spread or not. You can also have them with soups.

Whilst I'm on it, soups - if buying I used to eat whole can, half a can is better though. What do people do here?

Gonnagetgoing · 08/03/2022 09:37

@HouseofHolbein - loving the cat photos! Mine is a tabby/white one but she buggered off the bed this morning, didn't want to be stroked so certainly wouldn't wear a bonnet!

8stone13 · 08/03/2022 09:44

Day 66 - Tues 8th March - 9s 3 & 1/4lb
BMI 21.4
BF 23.9

My stats are still really weirdly high from an all time low only 48 hours ago 🤨 I did eat a lot yesterday though, all healthy stuff, I wonder if I'm staving off the cold that my DS has started with, I do sometimes get hungry when that happens 🤔

Still no time to properly catch up on the thread - though @HouseofHolbein I did see the cats 😺

Happy International Women's Day all 💜🤍💚

youdoyoutoday · 08/03/2022 10:09

@Gonnagetgoing for cans of soup, it would depend on the calories for me, if having a whole can took me over 400 calories then I'd have less. That said I rarely have soup any more as I don't think they fill me up enough.

I'm trying to change my diet up a bit at the moment as I'm not eating enough protein so today I'm trying

B - Veg Omelette
L - Chicken Salad
S - Greek Yoghurt, berries and seeds
D - Roast Chicken, Veg and Salad (maybe a tiny bit of rice)

Whenever I check my macro nutrients on MFP, my protein always seems to be low so I'm trying to shift that.

Talking of MFP, does anyone pay for the full subscription? is it more helpful than just the bog standard free bit?

mner1896 · 08/03/2022 10:42

Morning all, hope everyone is enjoying the sunshiney weather today before the return of the rain!

After a great start last week I went completely off the rails from Friday onwards so the best I'm hoping for on WOW is a maintain! And I'm away visiting a friend this weekend so there will be very little chance of a loss next week...Still trying to do what I can through the week and get my steps in, which I'm quite proud of as I am usually very 'all or nothing' and would of just thrown the towel in by now if I knew I had a big weekend planned.

@youdoyoutoday - thanks re the soup. I always ever had it with a slice of Vogel bread with no spread on it and a piece of fruit and/or yogurt for lunch.

I'm one of those people that got fed up of typing every detail (and MFP not monitoring it correctly) and it seemed a bit tricky to get right.

I think my friend gets the bog standard free bit. Another friend swore by the MFP free bit though.

Asking here for a friend who's a size 18 but wants to be 14, stroke recoverer and does pilates and a long walk once a week and shorter walks meantime.

Her pilates teacher will be moving soon so she may have to get another one, but she also goes on long walks on Saturday mornings with her and won't be able to do this soon. What would you do? If it were me I just put on my trainers and walk but my friend isn't me. I've suggested walking groups to her. She's a bit limited on exercise due to her stroke.

youdoyoutoday · 08/03/2022 11:45

Is she worried about walking on her own for so long? maybe build it up slowly rather than cut it out all together.

Crazzzycat · 08/03/2022 11:48

@Gonnagetgoing, I love soup, but only eat homemade, so my answer probably isn’t that helpful...I’d be happy to have a high calorie soup (i.e. a full tin), if it’s also high in protein and/or fibre. E.g. I’m planning to have a Thai green curry soup for lunch today. That’s a whopping 400 calories, but also gives me 4 of my 5 a day, 22 grams of protein and 15 grams of fibre, which is more than half the daily recommended amount. So in other words, those calories are worth it for the amount of nutrition it gives me and the fact that it will keep me feeling full all afternoon.

@youdoyoutoday, what protein target does MFP give you? I use NutraCheck, which recommends 60 grams of protein for me. Is MFP a lot more?

SanFranBear · 08/03/2022 11:58

Gonnagetgoing - for your friend, I can't recommend enough finding a podcast you love, plugging yourself in and then heading out. Not sure why it's taken me so long to get with this but it is fantastic - my brain switches off (well, concentrates on the podcast) so I walk without really noticing what I'm doing. I did an hour this morning before work when I only meant to be about 40 minutes (and ended up late to my 'desk'/living room). So if it's the company part of the walk she thinks she'll miss, could this work? If it's more the motivation, I'm less sure although your suggestion walking groups could be good - you can find them on Meetup). Or perhaps suggest she does a 'shout out' on her socials to see if one of her friends might be up for it.. they might be on a health kick themselves but just not need the world to know? I know I'd jump at the chance for similar if a friend mentioned it and I certainly haven't been posting anything. I hope she finds something that works and I hope her recover continues!

Happy IWD all you lovely women - let's keep on, keeping on!

SunshineCake1 · 08/03/2022 12:27

You have a double win there, @youdoyoutoday. A loss and a good exercise session.

@Gonnagetgoing if I have tinned soup I always have the whole thing but usually just one slice of bread rather than three as I have had in the past. Occasionally I will have two if I need more. Pleased you did well last night. Twinning with you as I was struggling a little and wanted a snack but I didn't give in.

Enjoy your time with your friend @mner1896. You'll probably do better than you expect and a maintain is a win still.

I was sad to have not lost this morning but then reminded myself I had just run 7km on the treadmill for the first time and I could have carried on. Just making lunch. A mix of using up bits and new stuff so it is wholewheat spaghetti, onion, garlic, courgette, yellow pepper, creme Fraiche, chestnut mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms.

Lzzyisgod · 08/03/2022 12:30

Ive always been so calorie focused so you've made me think @crazzzycat

I had 3 ryvita with 38g low fat Philly and half an avocado for breakfast today after talking about it yesterday.

Alpro high protein yoghurt and skinny instant cappuccino for lunch for me

Gonnagetgoing · 08/03/2022 12:38

@Lzzyisgod - but that's a great 'brunch'.

Once or twice a week I'll do a homemade egg mayo sandwich on Vogel soya and linseed bread - no margarine or butter and with organic mayo. Plus a few cherry tomatoes. It tastes so good and fills me up though and I swear I read somewhere boiled eggs help you lose weight. probably without the mayo or bread

But I also like adding boiled eggs to salad with e.g. ryvita on the side.

@youdoyoutoday - maybe she's worried about walking on her own, I don't know? Her friend has a dog and a car. Also friend works some weekends as well as during the week 9-5 and later etc... I know...! So early 7am Saturday morning walks work for her. but would kill me

@SanFranBear - good idea re podcasts.

Most of her friends live a while away but she does have some fairly near for church so will suggest that. I do think she likes company.

I mean I like company too but on a good day I'll happily put on headphones or not and walk a good 19km with a stop on the way or not. But I love long walks like that.

Lzzyisgod · 08/03/2022 12:42

Ah eggs my friend used to do this extreme egg diet where on the first dsy you ate 9 boiled eggs Confused

I wish I liked eggs but I was vegan for a year and ever since then I struggle to stomach them

ImALittlePea · 08/03/2022 12:59

Love love love the cats @HouseofHolbein - just what I needed today!

Yesterday I felt like I ate loads, but according to MFP it wasn't too bad.

Today's meals:
L - 1/2 tin soup (leftover from yesterday) plus an apple
D - baked potato, Quorn nuggets, beans and cheese

Doesn't feel the healthiest day ever, but think it's just about balanced and low cal.

I definitely need to up my protein. I need eggy meals that done involve bread or too much cheese. Trying to eat less meat, and not eating fish at all, is quite restrictive on this front.

HouseofHolbein · 08/03/2022 13:05

Glad you all like the idiot sisters! I’ve saved those pictures in a separate album just to make me laugh when I need it
