Following on from January Thread 1

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Good Morning All

Following on from yesterday where some posters were querying what to eat that’s tasty, nutritious and satiating and still get results I found This It’s a one day menu plan that comes in at 1100 cals but is said to contain all the nutrients we need.

I often google ‘What’s a nutritionally perfect meal’ and get a different result every time 😬.

I’ve also been reading a bit around Blue Zone foods, which have similarities with what we know as the Mediterranean diet. Blue Zones are categorised as where the general population lives longer than the world average.

Nice to see you @fallfallfall ❤️

Welcome to the thread @Rewis @MarineBlue33. What’s your plan?

Menu
Meal 1 - Kale, Halloumi, red pepper, carrot, butter bean stir fry.
Meal 2 - Omelette & side salad 🥗
Tea, black coffee, water. Walnuts. Apple.

Some great results being posted both in weight loss and exercise achievements 👍👏🏅. Keep going! You’ll be glad you did.

Good loss @Coolhand2 ! Well done. Keep it up - whatever you're doing is working!

129orbust · 20/01/2022 08:29

Good morning all - 131.6lbs so another 0.2lbs gone this morning.
It is in very little increments at the moment but at least going in the right direction. No exercise for me over the last few days but I will get out tomorrow - it's very cold here and we have some issues in the house that need to be sorted.
Trying hard to keep my Positive Pollyanna Persona to the fore!

SunshineCake1 · 20/01/2022 08:35

Finally! A pound off this morning from yesterdays weigh in. I struggled in the treadmill this morning so only did 2km but I went faster and I wasn't feeling well when I woke up. Going to walk the dog now so that will be a few more km to add to my challenge. Emotionally I am struggling. A friend has let me down and I'm disappointed but I know I need to snap out of it. Thank goodness ds2 has got better and has gone to school this morning.

Have a good day everyone and don't forget your water!!

8stone13 · 20/01/2022 08:55

Morning all 🙂

Day 19 - Thurs 20th Jan - 9s 2 & 3/4lb
BMI 21.3
BF 23.5

I didn't expect a loss, let alone a 3/4lb loss. Some could be post-menstrual water loss, but I think some may be related to the fact that I'm probably nearing as low as I can go now, & not having much in the bank means I'm burning up everything I put into my body. I ate more yesterday, I wasn't particularly physically busy but blimey it's cold here, so I think some of it was about keeping warm! I also suspect I've just got used to eating less, so I felt like I ate more but it was still enough to keep losing weight IYSWIM.

Well done to all those who are losing/keeping on the track of being healthy, & support to those who are struggling in any sense. Sometimes life gets in the way & it just can't happen. You will get back in the groove when life lets you though 🙂

Crazzzycat · 20/01/2022 09:58

Well done on those losses everyone! It must be a relief to see the scales moving in the right direction again @SunshineCake1

Thanks for sharing those links @TheRealHousewife. Good to see some complex carbs being included, as well as lots of healthy pulses. Yesterday was a rare day for me, when I didn’t eat any pulses and I was starving all day. I think I was missing the fibre to fill me up.

My plan for today:

Lunch - leftover meatball & pasta soup and a pear
Dinner - veggie sausage, kale and chilli pasta and a satsuma

There’s a lot of calories in that pasta dish, but I’m planning to hit the x-trainer for an hour after work. That kind of session always leaves my muscles trembling. So I reckon I can get away with a calorific, carb heavy meal after that 😄

ginsparkles · 20/01/2022 10:35

Good morning, well done to all the losers this morning!

So manic at work at the moment feel like I might meet myself on the way back!! Today is a bit of a rush so food wise won't be the best, but every day so far has been under the calorie limit so I'm ok with a bit over if needs be.

Plan for today
Meal one - sweet chilli noodle salad, with ham. Yogurt and banana
Meal two - grabbing dinner on the go, prawn sandwich, with a packet of crisps and a kit Kat.
Have an extra banana to snack on and a go ahead bar too. Hoping I won't need both.

Youdoyoutoday · 20/01/2022 11:29

Morning all.

Swimming done this morning and my DP reckons I'm doing too much but I think I'm OK as I'm not losing any weight especially as I seem to have some difficulty giving the wine up again!! Bloody Xmas bad habits!!
We were also naughty and snacked last night, or more my DP got himself some cheese and nduja on crackers and I mugged him for half a cracker but its not the end of the world, half a cream cracker won't kill me.

I haven't weighed myself since Sunday and I'm happy to stay off them for now, I might have a check on the weekend but I can usually feel it when I've lost some weight and I'm definitely not feeling it right now. Feel more bloated than anything but I'm due on soon so that's probably why, which my monthly hungry day is on the way!! Does anyone else get that? One day where you just want to eat everything?

Off to do dance around the house pretending I'm dusting!

Toodles ❤

swampytiggaa · 20/01/2022 11:41

Morning! Got a day off today 😊 just been for coffee with a friend. Weighed in and I’ve lost a bit again… working evenings has meant I don’t get chance to eat much!

Not much planned for today - got to take a child for an interview this evening in a pizza place locally which might prove challenging to healthy eating if she gets it 😂😂

Probably doing either hot dogs or bangers and mash for tea 😊

SingaporeSlinky · 20/01/2022 12:17

Youdoyoutoday yes I started a thread called Premenstrual Cravings a few days ago to ask what others do. My question was basically, when you’re craving before a period, do people a) eat junk and just enjoy it, b) eat junk and compensate by reducing calories the rest of the day or c) eat more, but healthier choices rather than, say chocolate? Not many responses but seems a mixture.

ginsparkles · 20/01/2022 12:51

@Youdoyoutoday ... yes yes yes to the hungry pre period days! I can always tell when it's on its way by the amount of biscuits I consume!!

Youdoyoutoday · 20/01/2022 14:01

🤣🤣
And there was me thinking I was just making excuses to feed my face!! Glad I'm not the only one!!
I do try to stay within my 1400 calories most days that don't include going out . However I'm fully aware that my exercising does allow me more calories a day than 1400.
But I do carefully check calories before consuming because I know ill end feeling like crap/guilty if I've just hoovered up a load of calories with no sense of satisfaction.
My go to are 1 toast and peanut butter, soreen with butter or crackers!! Love me some carbs on hunger day 🤣🤣

Rewis · 20/01/2022 16:33

I decided that I need to leave the flat every day. Thanks to wfh. It's been snowing the whole day and it's super windy but I got to do, don't I? Well at least the snow is better than yesterday when the nature was trying to kill you with the ice.

Ste23321 · 20/01/2022 20:01

@swampytiggaa well done!

Hope everyone else is good too.

I’ve had a really crap day and kind of snacked too much but still within my calorie limit. I just feel really down. Hopefully will see on next weigh in how much damage I’ve done

Youdoyoutoday · 20/01/2022 20:21

@Ste23321 you snacked today, not the end of the world, don't beat yourself up over it.
It's how you deal with it tomorrow, you make better choices tomorrow to even it out.

One of things Noom teaches is about decision fatigue. Throughout the day we make so many decisions that it's actually exhausting. If you can meal plan in advance, make up your lunch and snacks up and know what you're having, you're less likely to stray off that. I find this really helps me.
Before, I would skip breakfast then get hungry around 12 and munch my way around the cupboards and fridge and then make lunch for us all at 1pm and eat that too.
Now I plan all meals and have handy easy snacks, apples (about 100 calories), soreen lunchbox bars (90 calories) and cheese strings (62 calories).

Trust me, there are days I completely fail at this stuff but overall I'm doing way better than I was this time 13 months ago and that's a win!

Ste23321 · 20/01/2022 20:34

@Youdoyoutoday that’s good advice. Thank you!

campingqueen121 · 20/01/2022 22:16

Well done on all the losses and good efforts everyone.

Didn't get on yesterday and now know what people mean about how quick this thread moves, took a little while to catch up.

I'm with you all on the pre period cravings. I absolutely crave chocolate for a few days before. Will see how I get on next week with it.

@129orbust I hope you don't mind but I'm stealing your mantra. Years ago every time I drank water I would say "with every sip of water I drink, I burn calories". I think it worked too lol, I might start saying it again, particularly with the current amount I'm consuming.

Loads of good advice @DontWantTheRivalry, I don't know whether you've heard of metabolic adaptivity, it may be worth looking up to see whether this could be part of the problem and you need a reset, might help explain it all, although like someone else said it could be that it's just getting harder to lose because you're nearing your ideal weight.

Not sure if I've said already but MFP is really highlighting how much I eat, I'm finding to stay within my specified calories I need to input my planned meals in the morning, I guess that's logical, but I wasn't doing that and a few evenings was over by a fair bit. Having said that I still went over by 9 today, but then I didn't plan for all the snacks I had.

Did day 2 of c25k today, which I smashed despite not feeling 100%, so woohoo me, I am skipping the workout though.

I weighed in today and have lost 1.2lb this week, so really pleased. Down 8lb in almost 3 weeks. Now is the hard part for me, I'll be aiming for around a lb every 2 weeks, I think, but as long as I've lost 7lb and manage to keep it off (was going to say until June but on second thoughts...) forever, I'll be happy.

Stay strong, together we've got this!

Akitamum · 20/01/2022 23:19

Forgot to weigh on Wednesday, too much rushing around getting ready for work and school Blush Weighed this morning, stayed the same which is disappointing but I have increased water this week, found a way to get in some strength training at work doing some moves at my desk which amuses my colleagues Grin Reduced snacks and sugar too so hoping for a loss next week.

ImALittlePea · 21/01/2022 07:35

Weighed in this morning, 1lb off. So that's 7lb since NYE, which I'm happy with (well, I'm telling myself I'm happy with it, current mood is trying to turn everything into a negative).

Going to try my hardest not to overindulge this weekend like I did last weekend, and plan my food next week better including snacks. I'm away next weekend (spa/hen do) which should be enough motivation to keep me on course!

buzzofthebumblebee · 21/01/2022 07:58

well done on losses Camping & ImalittlePea

And well done on maintaining Akitamum - its an achievement too not to gain! I'm the same as you. Intrigued by your at-desk strength training !!

Have a good friday everyone.

8stone13 · 21/01/2022 08:55

Morning all 🙂

Day 20 - Fri 21st Jan - 9s 2 & 1/4lb
BMI 21.2
BF 23.4

Another loss I didn't expect, I think it's partly because it's flipping freezing here at the moment - I walked into town yesterday lunchtime & the early ice still hadn't melted. I'm always fed up when the summer starts & the scales show me as bigger, even though I know it's the heat!

My diet is improving, I'm back to a wider range of foods & definitely more fruit & vegetables & more protein than I have recently been eating. I've been looking into complex carbs though & it looks like my idea of taste hell 🤭😆

8stone13 · 21/01/2022 09:00

Totally agree on the pre-menstrual craving btw. My consistent one is chocolate, I can devour it & not feel sated till I've had a lot of it. But I also crave other things which alter & shift - tomato-based flavours, often cheese, sometimes the worst sorts of carbs. And it's not just something I fancy, I really crave it.

TheRealHousewife · 21/01/2022 09:36

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but do you all increase your daily calorie allowance if you exercise? I’ve been quite sedentary lately so it wasn’t an issue, and lots of people have said on other threads and discussions that they don’t ‘eat back the calories’. My TDEE based on all my current stats is around 1600 cals, and to lose weight I’m aiming for 1200 cals. Yesterday though I walked for a few hours and according to MFP I would have used 386 cals. I realise that’s a rough estimate, but should I just see any burned calories as a bonus, and obviously walking is good for me anyway, or add that on to the 1200?
