HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 🍾 🎊 🎉 🍾

Fresh new year, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fasting and eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Welcome @DontWantTheRivalry so sorry to read your mum shamed you at the table (I have a mum like that so totally empathise). And I don’t agree you ruined Christmas Day, your mother did! I’m pleased you’ve decided to improve your own health & happiness by shape shifting the way you eat/exercise. Start small so as not to over whelm yourself, it’s great to have you on board.

@FireworkParrot use the threads however which way will help you. Ladies on here have great listening ears.

@2022success chronic pain sucks! Some days I only get through hour by hour. Mostly without pain relief. Great little motivational loss you’ve had there! 👍. Remember weight loss isn’t linear so you might gain some back, but continue as you are and over the long term you'll see real results.

@ShoppingBasket tasty menus you have there 😋

A warm welcome @Raspberry12. You’ve sorted out a plan so the rest should follow over time 👍 Walking is so beneficial, especially out in the fresh air. 15k is awesome 👏

@2022weightlossusername don’t get disheartened about the number of steps you can fit in. Any amount is better than nothing. Well done on doing your walk.

A warm welcome @Chattycatty and I love your attitude. One milestone at a time is manageable as well as providing regular motivation as and when you cross each threshold. I’m like you, water in a fancy glass 🥂

@Purplepeopleeaterz it’s so difficult on trying to fit exercise in when you work and have a family too. It’s great you’re trying to think of solutions. If it makes you feel better it’s said that weight loss is 90% diet and only 10% exercise.

@onwardsandupwards22 I’m similar to you in that if I get lower weight (just shy of goal) I always bounced back up a few lbs. I’m really going to try to shave my last 1/2 stone off and see it kicked to the curb for good in 2022. I’m similar to you that due to chronic health conditions & SCI I can only manage the basics some days. You seem to have a very healthy frame of mind 👍

A warm welcome @8stone13. I agree weight loss does get harder as we get older but it would be easier to rewind any gains now rather than gain further. Cutting out sugar/cho will be a great benefit!

Welcome @TooManyPlatesInMotion water or rather not drinking enough is also my downfall. Give me a tea or coffee any day 😬

A warm welcome @serialgrannie, nice to have you join us. I posted a link in regards to Emotional Eating if you think it would be useful.

Today I have done well. I walked for about an hour outside and covered 6000 steps, which for me is a good effort. Back gone now but resting up with a cuppa ☕️, then will clean and close kitchen about 6:00pm.

As usual I probably cross post as it takes me an age to type 😬

Enjoy your evening.

@TheRealHousewife Totally agree, I stayed the same weight but completely changed shape by doing weights and a lot of core exercises last year. I have an Instagram account (no friends added, they don’t need to see some things haha) to post progress pictures as the scale can really demotivate if the numbers don’t go down.

SunshineCake1 · 02/01/2022 17:06

I completely missed there was page 4. Welcome to everyone.

I run partly so I can have cheese, chocolate, crisps, sweets and I agree with others, don't see certain foods as naughty. We aren't children. If we want to eat a bag of sweets we can but we all know as soon as we make something bad or forbidden we want to eat it all!

buzzofthebumblebee · 02/01/2022 17:14

Just waving hello to you all! January blues setting in a touch, so I've just put on some happy tunes on as I de-deck the halls to distract and keep me on the happy side of life. Need to keep busy and occupied. Take care all (and purple - that is one amazing body transformation Star )

ZooMammy · 02/01/2022 17:54

Hope not too late to join. Always been an emotional eater and need to get it under control. Aims for 2022 10000 steps 5 day a week and cut out the refined carbs.

TheRealHousewife · 02/01/2022 18:05

@Purplepeopleeaterz wow you’ve made such a difference to your silhouette! 👍👏

Waving back @buzzofthebumblebee 👋 I was tempted to take down my decs over the weekend (only got a few bits and bobs up) but OH is superstitious and asked for them to stay in play until 12th night which is Wednesday 5th.

Never too late @ZooMammy, welcome and jump on board!

Temp here has suddenly dropped. It’s been 14 or so but now it’s about 5 🥶

Would people like to share what they’re eating on whatever plan they’re following, or does that not appeal? I can see it would be good to see what others are having and for accountability, but also I don’t want to derail the thread. I could start a separate thread if anyone is interested?

SunshineCake1 · 02/01/2022 19:32

@buzzofthebumblebee I'm passing the boxing bag to you. I'm in a foul mood. With myself thought just watched something that hasn't helped. Sometimes life is not kind to us. .

@hopingforabrighterfuture2021 many people post their meals so feel free. I don't usually as I'm not calorie counting and I doubt it would help anyone to see what I eat !

Allotment123 · 02/01/2022 19:38

Hi I'm looking to lose a stone, using portion control as recommended on the British Heart Foundation website. Have previously lost half a stone and put it on so going an understanding of portions vs servings will help. Quite good at walking but need to do the cardio vascular exercise too to lose weight especially now WFH. Was 11st 2.5lb when weighed last week. My office is now too near the fridge!

8stone13 · 02/01/2022 19:50

@TooManyPlatesInMotionGrin

@DontWantTheRivalry I'll just add to what others have said, you didn't ruin Christmas Day & I'm sorry about how you were made to feel. FWIW you (& your husband) sound lovely. I'm sure this thread will help Smile

@TheRealHousewife Thank you for the welcome Smile

Well day 1 has been an eye opener - I've almost lost count of the number of times that I've either reached for some of the chocolate left over from Christmas or just thought "mmm I fancy a mouthful of cake..." & found myself heading to the kitchen Shock I had no idea I was doing this so regularly, & it's clearly a massive source of my problem. So a useful if shocking observation.

I've just had mushrooms on toast - so quick & simple but delicious. Nothing sweet afterwards & I appear to be remaining relatively sane Grin

TheRealHousewife · 02/01/2022 19:54

@Allotment123 a warm welcome. Unfortunately being nearer the fridge is one of the downside of wfh. Nonetheless you’ve succeeded previously and here’s to you in succeeding again. Good luck.

Hello! I've been between 13 and 14 stone my entire adult life. I don't know my exact weight right now but I'm guessing near the top end of that.

I'm a size 16 but would like to get down to a toned 12.

I've never really stuck to anything for more than about a week before but I'm determined that this time will be different.

My plan for now is just to have a really clean January. No alcohol or the related late night snacks, loads of water, minimal processed food. I'm doing the new 30 day programme with Yoga with Adrienne and aiming to get at least one more decent exercise session in most days too.

Today was my first day and for the first time ever I feel really motivated and haven't been tempted by the Christmas chocs and things.

I'm hoping that posting here will help ke stay on track. Good luck everyone!

Scottishnurse · 02/01/2022 21:40

Hi everyone can I join please

I am 35 and 15st. I have pcos so my weight tends to go up and down but this is the heaviest I've ever been and I hate myself rn. I'm 5ft 6in with a wide frame so ideally I'd like to lose between 4 and 5st.

Has anyone on h re ever managed to lose that amount before? I'd be happy losing 2lbs per week

SunshineCake1 · 02/01/2022 21:49

Hi Scottishnurse. I lost three stone. Then got poorly and put a stone back on Sad. But I'll be back on it when I can run. Didn't eat enough lunch today so ended up emotionally eating crisps two hours after I had started fasting Angry.

Akitamum · 02/01/2022 22:45

I'm looking forward to that @SunshineCake1! Before the dog I enjoyed fast walks but at the moment it's just sniffing a lot and stopping to stare at things Grin
@Purplepeopleeaterz you look fantastic, what a difference! I am a similar shape to your before photo ( but a little bigger due to Christmas excess Blush ) I am going to use your success as inspiration when I am reluctant to get the weights out.
Back to work on Wednesday, I do a lot better when I am in the office, can only eat what I have brought. Going to seriously cut back on the alcohol this month, I can see in my face I have been drinking too much. I think that combined with more water, eating 16:8, no more mindless snacking and focusing on healthier choices will get me going in the right direction. Loving reading everyone's comments and getting meal ideas from the thread.

Firstworlddilemma · 02/01/2022 22:49

Hi everyone - can I join in too please.

At 5 ' 6" and 15st 3 I need to loose at least 4 stone which seems so daunting but have decided not to look at the big picture but take each day / week as it comes in the hope that small steps eventually add up.

Its lovely to read so many supportive messages here.

onwardsandupwards22 · 02/01/2022 23:15

@Purplepeopleeaterz wow that's amazing! Can you please share a bit more about what weights you did and how long it took?

BirdFriday · 02/01/2022 23:39

I'm in!

I'd like to lose a stone after losing a load in 2020 and slowing down last year, plus putting a little back on.

I'm going to focus on fitness this year, but I'll be calorie counting through January to see how hard it is to get those last pounds off and take it from there!

Good luck everyone.

declutteringmymind · 02/01/2022 23:47

Hi all. Well done on everyone on a good start Hope all are getting into the zone.

I too keep reaching mindlessly for the chocolate and then having to have a stern word with myself. I'm doing 16:8 with no calorie restriction for a few weeks and just doing what I can to up my protein and lower carbs, although today was a v. carby day.

I could eat my own flesh right now so i am telling myself that I will be literally feeding from the fat stores in my belly. I'm in bed sipping teapig and feeling sorry for myself as I have post Covid fatigue and PMS.

I'm already wishing next week over as re-entry into full on life is going to be harsh.

My tasks for tomorrow are to reinstall the renpho scales and batch cook.

I am contemplating whether to weigh myself and if so how often. I have in the last weighed daily but it turns into an obsession. I might go for once a week.

NoodleSlurper · 03/01/2022 01:53

Amazing before and after pictures, @Purplepeopleeaterz! And even more astonishing that your weight didn't change. Did you change clothes size?

Today has been a reasonable day despite being forced (ha) to go to an all you can eat sushi restaurant for DS's birthday. I chose lots of vegetable dishes and avoided rice and noodles, although I did give in to the temptation of a few pieces of tempura. We went slowly and overall it worked well though--I stopped when I was full (although not before) but didn't then get disgustingly overfull fifteen minutes later without eating more. I don't know if it's carbs that do that or if it was just a timing thing but it's certainly something I've experienced frequently.

Also did a HIIT for obese people. Lost the link someone posted upthread for a HIIT but did also do one set of the Kaeira LaShae (sp?) someone posted.

TheRealHousewife · 03/01/2022 08:03

Good Morning All

A Warm welcome @BirdFriday @Firstworlddilemma @HappyBus @@Scottishnurse I lost about 42lbs then put about 10lbs back on due to chronic health conditions and illness (similar journey to @SunshineCake1) I’m doing my upmost to see off at least 1/2stone! I’ll admit the nearer to goal you get it does get tougher. Bodies don’t like to relinquish the last bit for some reason. Make smaller goals/milestones and allow your own progress in the short term to be your motivation for the long term. You can do this!

Hi @declutteringmymind I’d weigh initially to see where you’re at and then weekly or so to monitor your progress. Although there are other ways to monitor progress such as trying on a favourite item that’s become a bit snug, the good old tape measure and how you look in the mirror. Good luck!

@NoodleSlurper well done on your exercise yesterday 👍

Menu
Meal 1 - Home made veg soup.
Meal 2 - Lamb hotpot and vegetables
Tea, coffee, water, apple, a few walnuts.

Today is another opportunity to make progress towards your goal. Be it healthy food choices, exercise (for those who are able), getting the water in (me) and generally nurturing a healthy head space. Good luck 👍

So glad to see more people joining in.

I agree purplepeopleeaterzz your photos show such a huge change, really impressive.

I’ve got a favourite denim shirt, it’s much too tight at the moment so that’s going to be my gauge.

Last day of the Christmas break for me today, back to wfh tomorrow. Decorations are down, just need putting away in the garage. Can’t wait to hoover properly!

ginsparkles · 03/01/2022 08:13

Hi, can I join in? I used to post on the 5:2 thread but my father passed away last March and I haven't been able to focus on me. But I know he would be cross so I am taking back control this year.

Not sure I have the mental capacity to 5:2 again so I'm going for the classic reduce calories in and increase calories out approach. Shopping arrives tomorrow and the meal plan is done. Have weighed and measured and did a gym session yesterday. Have organised a good long dog walk with my Buddy for my day off, and booked in some riding lessons too.

I'm 12st 5 today at 5"10 and aged 44. I'd like to be back below 11st, as close to 10 and a half as possible.

TheRealHousewife · 03/01/2022 08:24

Condolences @ginsparkles. Bereavement is tough but we’ll done for deciding to take some time to invest in yourself. Imagine how much better you could feel this time next week/month/year etc. I did the Fast800 in 2020 and it was very successful at the time and lost the most I’d ever lost in a 12 week timeframe, but struggled to sleep. Not long after I also started losing my hair which I feel could have been diet related. These days my food intake is mainly based on the Mediterranean diet (I’m celiac anyway so don’t have wheat bread or gluten), I IF, eat twice a day and have around 1100-1200 cals a day. Loss is slow but I can sleep better (apart from being disturbed by pain) and my hair loss has slowed. I used to love riding! Good luck 🤞
